They are basically an Islamic military group whose ideals are to govern the afghan people through their strict interpretations of the koran. Hence why women are beaten/mistreated in our view, why western style education is frowned upon etc. The Taliban are against everything the West represents (ie industrialized/developed), they believe that people should live a rustic and simple life.Cheers

When locals want civil war, we can't stop them. If the war is triggered by foreign forces, we don't call it civil war. We call it something else. Without internal commitments and agreements of the locals, they'll not unify for their own protection. It is not our soldiers' or Taliban's but their locals' capability to reach protecting themselves. They fight US successfully, they can no doubt fight Taliban. It's the locals who can push or stop their own civil war and avoid eliminations.

In April 2010 I sat stunned as a retired NYPD cop, now a comfortable contractor in northern VA, said the US must accommodate itself to foreign corruption on "cultural grounds". In other words, if corruption is cultural (as determined by piss ant contractors) then our taxpayer dollars must pay off scumbag warlords.
