@franklinfuentes I found it on an online store known as "iOffer", two days after the Sylvers episode of Unsung. They're similar to eBay, but the buyer protection is a bit sketchy, which I learned after I made the purchase. Thankfully, I didn't get ripped off.
It was on a 45rpm vinyl record, surprisingly in very good condition.
@Argee11, wow! yes, i'm familiar with ioffer.. the buyer protection is one of the main reasons that i stay with ebay. a great find though, thanks again!
Thanks, for the reminder. It 's airing today in my area, New york City, until tomorrow. I hope that the producers will air the entire musical performances of the Sylvers, including this short, and sweet calypso-oriented number, in a primetime special. It will give all of their fans, and new ones, a chance to see what made the group so unique!
@TheBadmanE Unique in their own right is so true about this phenomenal family!! I hope that this piece is shown again tonight, along with Foster's classic guest appearance on Soul Train singing Misdemeanor. I want to see both of these spectacular performances again! You are so welcome for the reminder; it was my pleasure to inform everyone that they can see this fantastic family at their BEST once again!
FYI everyone; Unsung is coming on again tonight here is Irving, Texas where I live; they are having an Unsung marathon, and guess what family is being featured again? You guessed it...THE SYLVERS...YAYYYY!! I'll be watching with my burger and fries for dinner, lol!! The showing for The Sylvers airs at 10:00 tonight; we are on Central Time..you will have to check your time listing to see if it's airing where you are tonight!
This is the era of "ME"!, "ME"!, "ME"! No longer are we raising our daughters to be virtuous, and honor traditional marriage, nor the innocent life of a child! Our sons are pressured into believing that engaging in casual sex, and producing a child, somehow makes them a man! The concept of a stable family, is simply an after thought. At least these women, stuck it through, and encouraged their children to pursue their musical talents, despite their personal hardships!
@TheReneex & @shorty1ification both of you are ON POINT! Its a shame how Christianity & patriotism have been warped by the POWERFUL few your damned if you and damned if you don't.
@TheReneex Yes, you are right..it is really sad when I look around and see what the family has become in this day; I'm glad that I was raised in the 60's when parents worked hard in the house and outside of house..they took care of their families with pride; they taught us to respect ourselves and others..I can't speak for all families, but I don't see that old-time teaching in our families in this day. Thank God for parents like The Sylvers!! They remind me of my own dear mother and father.
You're absolutely right. It was a different time era. Only difference then as oppose to today, marriage between a one man and a women, was considered sacred. However, Most women then, unfortunately were taught to depend on men fpr their ultimate survival. But morality was held to a high degree. Today, too many young women and men, are under the belief that it's alright to produce children without the benefit of marriage, and depend on the government as some kind of safety net.
@TheReneex Yes, I agree, today anything goes! People have no honor, no manners, no respect for themselves, nor for others, so they do what they wish, and they think that it's cool. I still that marriage should come first, then children, and when people have children, they should take care of them on their own as much as possible. Government assistance is a short-term program, it should not be used as a lifetime way of raising a family.
@TheReneex----I think its a generational thing...IT TAKES A VILLAGE TO RAISE CHILD, rings true, if there was no parent (mom or dad) there was ALWAYS someone positive in the community who would step up, if you did anything wrong not only did your parents chastised you but your neighbors did too before you got home. We aren't a VILLAGE/COMMUNITY anymore, we don't care about each other let alone our children.
@dh1173 You are so right! It sure does take a village to raise a child; you sure would get torn up by neighbors, and go home and get a whoopin' again by your parents, lol! It made us better people though, and we grew up to respect others, and to become good, law-binding citizens. The people back then cared about one another..people care about nothing today like you said...it's very sad.
@shorty1ification - It's such a shame that we measure a persons success today, solely on their "manufactured' image and material wealth. I have sympathy for both Mrs.Sylvers & Mrs.Debarge, because they lived through the era of Jim Crow, and did their best, to raise their large families on their own. That old adage, "It takes a village to to raise a child holds true, primarily for that ara! today, as I said before, we are living in an nefarious, moral- fre,e anti-christian era!
that no one wanted to rent to women who had as many kids as each of them had; in this day and time, it is illegal not to rent to someone with many kids, but society didn't make it easy for the mothers of that day to make a clean break from their unhealthy living situation, so they had to stay and endure it. Women don't take that mess now! If the situation is not good, women will say the heck with it, and they get away from the guy; plus, there are laws to protect women and kids now from abuse.
While I agree that there was some form of uneccessary aggression used on the kids, you have to ask yourself, why did the mothers continue to produce more children with these men, if they were so violent? At what point do you walk away? Lack of education and money, should not have prevented them from removing their children from harms way! It' s not fair to lay all of the blame on their fathers. It takes two to tangle.
@TheReneex I agree with you, the women of that day should have walked away from the abuse of their husbands; my sister and I always talk about this...we always say that the women in that day were taught to be submissive to their husbands (in bed and out), and most of them had no money, no jobs, and/or no education, so they were dependent on their men to be the breadwinners; some of them were scared to leave because the man would hurt them if they did, and both Mrs. Debarge and Mrs. Sylvers said
Respond to this video... People knocked "Papa" Joe, for being "too aggressive", in our current "wussy-puss"culture! But I give praise, to strong black, devoted fathers! We need more dads like him and James Evans, especially in our dilapitated community! He wasn't and educated man, nor wealthy, but he and Katherine, and millions of other parents, during the pre-70's, were fully aware of what it meant to dress their children accordingly, and instill goid values, during their youth.
@TheReneex I disagree with the upbringing of Mr. Jackson and Mr. Debarge; both of these families have spoken about how the head of the family (the fathers), were so abusive; there is a big difference between abusive and agressive; these fathers went beyond chastising their children...they were ABUSIVE! Michael Jackson said that his dad kicked him down some stairs, and LaToya said that he held a gun to them..The Debarges said that their father knocked them out, and gave their mother black eyes.
@TheReneex That's going WAYYY too far! Both of these families certainly experienced abuse, my father (RIP, 1999) was a strict disciplinarian, but he NEVER gave black eyes, kicked us, nor called us names; so I don't respect the way Mr. Jackson or Mr. Debarge raised their family..it doesn't sound like Mr. Sylvers was like that. James Evans from Good Times was kind of like my father, but my father could look at me and make me cry..he didn't have to use force.
You can guess what me husband say: "HEY WOMAN"...I love that part; it's so cute, funny and true, lol!! I was a kid when the Sylvers came on the scene, and they were something else; I just loved them! I was in LOVE with Foster; he was sooo cute! RIP Edmund Sylvers.
It's a shame we no longer encourage our children to dress in appropriate attire anymore! They look adorable. Today little girls are dressing like hookers and little boys want to look like thugs!
My five year old daughter and I were watching unsung and she fell in love with this song so we had to find it. I love it!! Catchy for little kids even today.
Thanks for posting this! It's amazing that such young children could harmonize so well! I saw the short clip of their live performance of this song on Unsung and was blown away. I've sent that clip to everybody I know who is interested in music. Now, I'm happy to finally hear the entire song! Thanks again!
If anyone's interested, THE LITTLE ANGELS were focused in EBONY Feb. 1961 its in the Ebony/Jet Magazine archives. Ironically, they were signed to CAPITOL records which THE SYLVERS would be signed to 14 years later. @TheReneex, UNSUNG did a special "Just the performances" edition of the episodes they did last year so HOPEFULLY if they do a second one well get to see them.
How awesome are you for finding and posting this! I was so wishing they had shown the entire performance on Unsung because everybody sounded so adorable. Thanks to you, I can be content hear it here. Any luck on the High school Dance performance? 'Preciate cha pal
I hope someone will post Foster Sylvers performance on soul train along with their performance of High School dance, and this clip, which aired on the recent Unung bio.
@TheReneex I was looking for the performance of Foster too, and I can't find it out here..I'm surprised that it didn't get posted right after Unsung was shown. Hopefully, we'll get a chance to see that; I actually remember that performance because I saw it when it first aired.
@shorty1ification & @TheReneex, hopefully UNSUNG will do another "performance only special" showing them all! Reneex, I do agree WHOLEHEARTEDLY that our girls are forced to look like "prost-a-tots" by designers and our sons are being groomed in "prison culture" which is where this "sagging pants" mess originates! Just imagine if Mr. Sylvers had stayed with him family and continued to work & groom his children, oh the music!
@dh1173 The Sylvers have always been a very well-groomed family; some peope should take notes from watching Unsung and this site on how their children should look; you can certainly tell from this piece that Mr and Mrs Sylvers took pride in the children's appearance..it would be nice if parents did so today as well. The family would have gone farther if Dad would have still been with them through the years; I agree with you. I wonder if Mr Sylvers is still alive?
@shorty1ification My grandfather passed away in 2005 from complications of prostate cancer. What we failed to cover in the episode of Unsung is that over the years my grandfather had reconciled with his children and gave his life to Christ.
@tyava Thank you for letting us know about Mr Sylvers, although I'm sorry to hear that he is not here anymore. I'm happy to hear that your granddad died in Christ, and that he reconciled with his family before he left you all...RIP DAD SYLVERS; I'm also very sad to hear that you lost two uncles; I didn't know about Christopher until I saw Unsung, but I remember Edmund oh, so well! Edmund was a great singer and entertainer, and he will be remembered forever!
@shorty1ification Hi tyava; can you tell us how many children each of the sisters and brothers have in the Sylvers Family? Does Edmund have children; also, does Ricky or Foster have any kids?
I believe Foster has two kids (one of them is an actor). Edmind has 14 kids. I'm uncertain if James and Ricky has any kids, but Leon has alot (probaly more than Edmund), including Leon IV.
@tyava , like shorty1, I offer my thanks, sympathy and condolences about your grandfather. But I'm glad as your Aunt Pat said in the UNSUNG interview, that God is continuing to bring his healing to the situation. The acapella performances you and the family filmed are simply amazing! Did it really just take 15-20 minutes to get those together?
It was really sad what happened to Olympia, when she was abducted, drugged with heroin and almost sexually abused. Thank God she got away, but she suffered from schizophrenia after that. She was very pretty. No one is exempt from a monster's grasp. Sad.
@wurltee Angie said Olympia was actually sexually assaulted. They were going to "deal" with her meaning kill her after they dropped the boy off but she ran out of the car when they stopped to let the boy out. Im sure that lead to her mental issues. Very tragic story so sorry for her.
@Nanadsyl Oh really! I could've sworn she said that she was almost sexually assaulted. Either way, it was very messed up. And those bastards were never caught. smh
@RememberTheTime09 i wish people could show a little more respect....i never heard anyone say their dad had "run off"....all i heard was that he hung with a crazy crowd....it was hard for them to do unsung because of things like this, people with statements that are misleading.....
@RememberTheTime09 It was no disrepect to The Little Angels/Sylvers...I feel for them & appreciate what they've given. They didn't deserve any of that stuff so no one is judging them. I just find it hard to sugar coat what some so called men did to them be it their father, managers or the creeps who did what they did to Olympia.
@tyava I sure hate that Olympia went through such torture; NO ONE deserves to be treated like she was..that was just wrong! I always wondered what happened to her and the rest of the family during the 90s, so please tell your family that I am sooo glad that they did Unsung to let us know that they are doing well. I'm glad that your mom is doing well too; she still looks good like she did before she had you..tell her that Sharon from Milwaukee, Wisconsin loves her!
@tyava I was watching the segment of Unsung when it was mentioned about your mother, but I was doing alot of moving around from one room to another, so I only heard bits and pieces, but not the whole thing. I truly apologize, and that was very sad what happened to her. Thank God she's alive! I did see where her attackers were never caught, but God takes care of people in his own way. God bless you and your family! I hope a reunion comes soon! :)
Omg olypia is my dream centerfold ! God bless her and the family ! I kept rewinding this part when watching the unsung documentary..thanks to the uploader forreall !
@GHOSTTOAST i have a picture of her as my desktop wallpaper. she's my dream centerfold too. wish she had more lead parts her daughter can sing!!!!!!!!

I just find it hard to sugar coat what some so called men did to them be it their father, managers or the creeps who did what they did to Olympia.

@wurltee Unfortunately my mother was sexually abused, not almost. They were going to kill her but she was able to break free and run.

LOVE this one. Wish Olan had more leads in the Sylvers version of the group, but after watching UnSung I can understand why.
