I am glad I was only a year old in 1972 because I would hate to have remembered what it felt like for McGovern to lose. I guess everyone felt he was too liberal for that year. Though it wouldn't have mattered, I would have been honored to vote for him.

bomber pilots in ww2 had to fly 25 missions, after mcgovern piloted his 25th his crew still had 5 more to go; he could have rotated out to a safer assignment but he stayed w/ his crew til they all made it thru 25.

sorry...my facts are inaccurate, i understated senator mcgovern's bravery, he actually flew 35 missions.

Amen brother. The assassination gave us LBJ and an escalation of the Vietnam War. That war led to Nixon's election. Nixon put the nation through Watergate and gave us President Ford; a man that was never elected to the office of President of VP. The Watergate fallout gave us Carter, a mediocre President. Carter's unpopularity led to Reagan, the most overrated thing since mom's apple pie. His VP selection led to the Bush Dynasty. Damn it all to Hell!
