Even if you did something like require all future games to have a few mb free for cross game chat and older games that use all of it are not supported it would still be fine. Software updates can make the underlying xmb more efficient while freeing up ram for a party chat system.

As a gaming platform it is far superior but this has been the one issue that xbox gamers have been using as a complaint for years. The only thing that sets xbox live apart from psn is cross game chat. Imo the store on ps3 is better, it has better unique games, the interface is quicker and more fluid and the network is open for companies like valve to use their own network integration.

This is why games like Battlefield 3, LA Noire, Portal 2 and Final Fantasy 13 look better on ps3. I can understand not liking the fact that cross-game chat will never happen, but if I wanted to have a casual conversation with a friend while playing Skyrim or Batman, I will call them on my phone.
Otherwise I'd just play online with them in the same game.

Well couldn't they adapt to the PS3's situation then? What about a RAM add on that plugs in via USB? What about using spare memory with a flash drive? What about possibly utilizing the PSP for cross game chat? Wish Sony could do something. Along with fixing the XMB. Is it just me, or does it take too long to load sometimes? Especially in-game.

The ps3 has the same amount of ram as the 360 I'm pretty sure and the only games that probably use it all are the exclusives. Even if you did something like require all future games to have a few mb free for cross game chat and older games that use all of it are not supported it would still be fine. Software updates can make the underlying xmb more efficient while freeing up ram for a party chat system.

If they fucking redesign the in game xmb to take less ram and load less icons they could squish in cross game chat it could be limited to 4 people but hey something is something. Also is a windowsXP pc that has 256MB of ram and can do background chatting. Why is it so hard to do on ps3?

@Gr34ters Well to be fair, the ps3 is better in every way other than cross game chat. As a gaming platform it is far superior but this has been the one issue that xbox gamers have been using as a complaint for years. The only thing that sets xbox live apart from psn is cross game chat. Imo the store on ps3 is better, it has better unique games, the interface is quicker and more fluid and the network is open for companies like valve to use their own network integration.

@Gr34ters The gnu in the 360 is better but that means nothing if the developer actually designs with the ps3 in mind. This is why games like Battlefield 3, LA Noire, Portal 2 and Final Fantasy 13 look better on ps3. The better looking multi platform games only look better because the developers can't take advantage of the ps3's unique architecture. This is why Gears of War 3 still looks much worse than many ps3 exclusives. I would ratherhave exclusives than slightly better looking multiplats
