Out of a 20" barrel? Awesome. I have a Remington 700 sps tactical (20" barrel) chambered in .308 outfitted with a Nikon buckmaster 4.5-14x40 (mildot), so your video gives me hope that can make a 1000 yard shot with it! What rifle did you use for this shot?
That's awesome! I have a Savage arms stevens finest .308 and I hit a coyote at 860 something yards this morning, witrh my cheap &80 tasco scope! hahaha
@Thompsonjuekr Hi! The scope is an IOR Valdada scope, 4.5-14 x 50 with the illuminated MP-8 reticle. As for the range, this is a marked range so we just set up at the 1,000 yard line. However, after we did this shoot we got up on the tower overlooking the unknown distance range and the instructor said for no lasers. Most of the class had some form of ranging on their reticles...the hard part was accurately calculating the distance while on the wobbly tower that windy day.
@swiftlou No, my buddy had an iPhone, but he was just using the calculator. I was doing the SWAG method looking over my data book, which is why it was a surprise to me that I made a hit!
LMAO, first of all they issued 10x fixed so that 1. it given decent field of view... 2. it is a decent magnification for TMR and MD reticles... 3. they issued 10x because they dont plan on shooting a 2.5" diameter humming birds w/ 1/8MOA adjustment at 300 yards like all 14x and higher have...and especially 4. it is easier to be trained with fix 10x rather than variables and high power magnifications.
no! listen guy! before you go off spewing you need to think! californians destroy and rape the land wherever they go! and all of them have the same mentality and act as if they are more important than everyone else! and quite frankly its annoying so shut your mouth!
that's the attitude of a communist....maybe YOU are the one that needs to think....you are just making your self look like an ass....so keep talking...
I'm from california.. I served in the army..I can shoot with the best of them and nothing makes me happier than clean air and a beautiful night sky and a camp fire. Yes, the we have an attitude that we are more important is what some call self confidence others call arrogance because to live here...well it's expensive we'll say that. So you Listen "guy" next time you get diarrhea of the mouth look up Mule Days in Bishop CA or well Hell you come out here and meet some of the decent people.
@zyou8er We got a crap load of California people running over here. Which would be fine if they didn't bring their forceful opinions with them. I'm not saying you're that way. I REALLY hate California though. Hollywood needs to roll over and drown in it's own sickness.
@zyou8er No you dont.. These ranges beyond 200 yards are hard to come by.. Most of the 1000 yard ranges are either private or military. Unless you find a sweet spot in the desert.
I'm sure you can...best bet is to have the ballistics for your combo calculated and to have a scope with enough adjustments. There were various rifles in the class and all but an AR10 did it (the AR had a mechanical failure of some sort).
My rifle is the Tactical Para from Tactical Rifles...Rem 700, 20 inch barrel, IOR 4.5-14x50 on a 20 MOA rail. Fired HSM ammo made to M118LR spec. I used the wobbly Parker Hale bipod as well. As long as you have enough adjustments I think you'll be fine.
yes i have, and for that very reason i believe this. the more the magnification the smaller your view is. the US marines use only 10 magnification on their m24 sniper rifle, and i would say they know more about optics then you.
Well, my scope is a variable power 4.5-14x. The 14x was definitely handy hitting that target at 1,000. I was able to dial it back at closer ranges if I needed to.
I do not know the current scope that the USMC uses, but 10x is decent especially if you are stuck with a fixed power scope. Also, the Marines use the M40, with the M24 being an Army system, IIRC.
haha man you need to read more a get to the 1000yards range. First of all the world record groups at 1000 yards have been set by people with a gun mounting a Nightforce 12-42x56 benchrest scope. grouping was 3.835", 10 shots fired in that group. That was in 2006. the nightforce is also used on the Cheytac .408, accompanied by a handheld device compensating for everything to give you the perfect shot. at ranges past 2000 yards, so before you rattle about magnification, READ!!!

what rifle and scope were you using?
i shoot a remington 700 sps 26 inch barrel 7mm rem mag
9 1/4" rate of twist
it has a bushnell elite 6500 2.5-16X42mm on it
is it possible to make a 1000 yard shot with a rifle like this in this configuration?

i personally would get a scope with less magnification. 16x is a little excessive. i would suggest half that.
