I think I would have been tempted to smash mine if Rockbox wasn't available for it. For example, mp3 files without id3 tags do not show up, it takes ages to build a database on every boot at the video is 15fps.
Rockbox solves there issues but now my battery is in need of replacement, I might see if I can buy one from the US if they're only $15 there (about a half to a third of local prices).
(same person) I dropped mine a few months back and all I could get was a blank screen, I repaired it by opening it up and pressing down the memory module which has a cartridge-type connector. Got a couple of new 750mAh batteries made by Cameron Sino on eBay. To my surprise I got 20 hours runtime (recorded with battery bench) so I'm good to go for another couple of years. Despite buying two newer and lighter mp3 players the Sansa is still my workhorse because the Rockbox system is so easy to use.

This is my problem... i have one of these in the 2gb version,it on some songs came up with this thing that said "Bad Track" whenever you tried to play the song so what i did was format the whol thing take everything off it then put everything back on, and now all songs are coming up with this "Bad Track" thing. Now it wont even let me sync songs on it it just freezes up i dropped it but i dont thnk that has much to do with it,
I have one of these. They are the shit! I replaced the default firmware with Rockbox and it's even better, although the default firmware is not bad at all. I've dropped it, knocked it around, etc. countless times and it's built tough as a brick.
hey dude i have a question. I have the 6GB version of the e200 and for some reason when i go to plug it into my pc to charge, the thing that says it's refreshing the system after you put songs on it comes up, and the bar loads just a little bit but then freezes, and i can't turn it off, i have to wait for the battery to die. do you know what the problem is and if not, could you tell me where i can go to find out how to fix it?
The slot that you didn't know about is a miniSD slot that can be used to expand the memory of the sansa. I turned my 8 gig into a 12 gig with a miniSD I bought off of Ebay.

if it dificult replacing the firmware?
wonindogames 3 years ago
No, it's not difficult to put alternative firmware on it at all. Rockbox has a quick tutorial to follow. It takes 10 minutes at the most.
