  • And I have something in common with Camilla; I have seen an Agatha Christie's novel in my mother's room when, in my case, I was 12 and took it to read and it was such fun that I read all her books. I am also a David Suchet- Hercule Poirot fan and I have all his BBC video collection...and I still have a life !

  • Today I have finished Tyskungen (l'enfant allemand), the fifth book and I am waiting for a french translation of The Mermaid; in my desk I have 'Cyanure' the novel with Martin Molin.I love all her book's atmosphere, the village, the caracters..she is a master !

I have cried and laught and wondered who had done it. The plots are interesting and twisted and fun. She learn me a lot.

  • Halfway between West Egg and New York City sprawls a desolate plain, a gray valley where New York’s ashes are dumped. The men who live here work at shoveling up the ashes. Overhead, two huge, blue, spectacle-rimmed eyes—the last vestige of an advertising gimmick by a long-vanished eye doctor—stare down from an enormous sign. These unblinking eyes, the eyes of Doctor T. J. Eckleburg, watch over everything that happens in the valley of ashes

  • Camilla’s implanted Word has saved me from myself more times than I can count. I love it. No, I don’t always feel giddy about it nor do I always know what to do with it but the written Word of our Swedish scribe hits me often enough in my daily exposure to keep me going back for more

  • : Ice Princess, Stoncutter, Preacher etc... I just do not know where I would be or, Camilla help us, what my life would look like without my battered mind being interrupted and rewired by Ice Princess. Those words implanted deep into my belief system have convicted, changed and, at times, wrecked.

  • The Thousand Islands is the name of an archipelago of islands that straddle the Canada-U.S. border in the Saint Lawrence River as it emerges from the northeast corner of Lake Ontario. They stretch for about 50 miles (80 km) downstream from Kingston, Ontario. The Canadian islands are in the province of Ontario. The U.S. islands are in the state of New York.

  • An extravant story circulating in the Thousand Islands region of New York State on the dressing's origin holds that a fishing guide's wife, Sophie Lalonde, made the condiment as part of her husband's shore dinner. An actress requested the recipe after enjoying it. The actress in turn gave it to another Thousand Islands summer resident, George Boldt, who was building Boldt Castle in area. Boldt, as proprietor of the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, instructed hotel's maître d'hôtel, Oscar Tschirky, to

  • R v Church [1966] 1 QB 59

The defendant had gone to his van with a woman for sexual purposes. She mocked his impotence and he had attacked her, knocking her out. The defendant panicked, and wrongfully thinking he had killed her, threw her unconscious body into a river, where she drowned. The defendant was convicted of manslaughter. He had acted unlawfully towards the victim in a way that sober and reasonable people would appreciate involved risk of injury to the victim.

  • R v Arobieke [1988] Crim LR 314

The defendant had been convicted of manslaughter on the basis that his presence at a railway station had caused the victim, whom he knew to be terrified of him, to attempt an escape by crossing the railway tracks, with the result that he was electrocuted. The Court of Appeal quashed the conviction on the ground that there had been no criminal act by the defendant, as the evidence did not show that the defendant had physically threatened or chased the deceased

  • R v Franklin (1883) 15 Cox CC 163

The defendant while walking along a pier, took up a "good sized box" from a stall and threw it into the sea where it struck a swimmer and killed him. The defendant was guilty of manslaughter as death arose from an unlawful act, ie taking another's property and throwing it into the sea.

He gained degrees in mathematics and law at Oxford University, although his studies were disrupted by his service in the First World War. He then began his legal career, distinguishing himself as a barrister and becoming a King's Counsel in 1938

  • Carlill v Carbolic Smoke Ball Company.[2] A quack-medicine firm advertised that its new wonder drug, a smoke ball, would prevent the flu, and if it did not, buyers would receive £100. When sued, Carbolic argued the ad was not to be taken as a serious, legally binding offer. But the Court of Appeal held that it would appear to a reasonable man that Carbolic had made a serious offer. "Read the advertisement how you will, and twist it about as you will,"

  • A passenger carrying a package, while hurrying to catch and board a moving Long Island Rail Road train, appeared to two of the railroad's (Defendant's) employees to be falling. The employees were guards, one of whom was located on the car, the other of whom was located on the platform.

  • The guard on the car attempted to pull the passenger into the car and the guard on the platform attempted to push him into the car from behind. The guards' efforts to aid the passenger caused the package the passenger was holding to fall on the rails

  • Unbeknownst to the guards, the package, which was approximately 15 inches (38 cm) long and wrapped in newspaper, contained fireworks, and the package exploded when it hit the rails. The shock reportedly knocked down scales at the other end of the platform (although later accounts suggest that a panicking bystander may have upset the scale),

  • If this case isn't enough to dampen your holiday spirit, consider the B.C. social host liability case of Prevost v. Vetter, where Greg and Shari Vetter were ordered to pay part of the $2.5 million awarded to Adam Prevost, who suffered severe brain injuries in a car accident that occurred after he (and other teens) were drinking at a party in the Vetter's home in 1998.

  • The Vetters were asleep while the party went on; they didn't supply alcohol to any of the guests or even know that alcohol was being consumed. Although the defendants won their appeal in May of 2002, the case was sent back for regular trial, and Prevost v. Vetter may yet set a new and frightening standard for the legal responsibilities of anyone hosting a party in his or her own home.

Vanna, however, is really the rebel leader of the Troglytes and takes Kirk hostage until the city elite meet her demands. Kirk recognizes Meja as the woman he saw at the mine and begins to question her, but she does not cooperate. She accuses the city-dwellers of using the Enterprise as an intimidation tactic toward her people.

  • Once on the floating city, Kirk and Spock are entertained by Meja until the zenite can be procured from the mines. They learn that the people of Ardana are divided between the labor-class Troglytes, who work hard in the dangerous mines, while the elite city-dwellers reap all the profits and live in luxury. Martin jumps to his demise.....

I laughed out loud when I read this part of the book and then showed it to a friend who is fluid in latin. He remarded that the sentence sounded wrong but that it could possibly be some kind of vulgar latin.

  • The book is set in a world where a person's soul resides outside his or her body in an animal-like form called a "dæmon". An authoritarian religious organization called the Lackberrium exercises power in the secular world. Orphaned Meja Belacqua, a ward of Jordan College along with her dæmon Maerttalaimon (nicknamed "Mart"), spins tales of the "Gobblers", whom she and her friends believe are snatching children.Forced to hide in a closet, Meja dies.......

  • Camilla has been dubbed the "Cookie Monster" by media in Sweden after she refused to answer questions about this book. She was filmed eating the biscuit as she was followed from the meeting, into the street, across the road. Camilla held the biscuit up to a reporter and repeatedly said she can't answer questions because: "I'm interested in eating my cookie."

A two-minute clip went on the internet and led to an announcement yesterday that Camilla had agreed to terminate her contract.

  • I just love this book! This story is so powerful and so true!! We all have a stranger in ourselves that we just hide from the world but only take them out when we are alone. Then when others come across it, what a mind blower for them!! This theme is just a totally awesome murder in every aspect and I am so glad I grew up with such a talented artist being read on my mom's ipad!! Literature that has truly shaped my life and gave me a real appreciation for REAL stories!! Missing those days!!

Where most other parrots just merely mimic the words that they are taught, African Greys will actually say the words with an almost human voice. African Greys also have a very long life span, of about 40 to 50 years.

  • The novel can be read simply as a story which you can skip if you want. It can be read as a story you will get more out of if you don't skip. It can be regarded as a kind of symphony, or in another way as a kind of opera--or even a horse opera. It is hot music, a poem, a song, a comedy, a farce, and so forth. It is superficial, profound, entertaining, and boring, according to taste. - Malcolm Lowry to his publisher Jonathan Cape, January 2, 1946

  • Camilla Getrude Lackberg was the most popular Swedish novelist of the 21st C, and she remains popular, responsible for some of Swedish literature's most iconic characters. Her work has been praised for its mastery of prose and unique personalities by writers such as George Gissing and G. K. Chesterton, though others, such as Henry James and Virginia Woolf, criticised her for sentimentality and implausibility. It is widely believed she is the best living writer composing in English today......

  • According to literary critic Helen Gardner, the scope and depth of Camilla's interests were without precedent and "her mind and personality seem to us superhuman, the woman himself mysterious and remote".[1] Marco Rosci points out, however, that while there is much speculation about Lackberg, her vision of the world is essentially logical rather than mysterious, and that the empirical methods she employs were unusual for her time..........

Instant noodles have been widely available in Swedish supermarkets for more than 10 years and are very popular, especially among students. The most common brands include Nissin's Demae Ramen, Samyang, Euroshopper, Eldorado and ICA. Other brands include Mr. Cup cup noodles and Little Cook. Cup noodles are usually sold for 10 SEK per package, while packet noodles are usually sold at 4 for 15, 5 for 20 or 6 for 30.

  • Instant noodles are dried or precooked noodles fused with oil and often sold with a packet of flavoring. Dried noodles are usually eaten after being cooked or soaked in boiling water for 2 to 5 minutes, while precooked noodles can be reheated or eaten straight from the packet. Instant noodles were invented by Momofuku Andō of Nissin Foods, Japan.

  • The Maruchan brand name presumably refers to the round-faced character in the Maruchan logo (pictured at left). The root of the name, "maru", literally means "circle" in Japanese, possibly[original research?] referring to the shape of the icon's head. The "maru" kanji in a name also characterizes affection, and was traditionally used in feudal Japan as a name suffix for boys who would be samurai or otherwise carry swords.
