the racing teams dont want to spend much money so they only spend money for things wich make races safer. but in 2006 they decided to make gear-switching easier...
I have raced on that track when i was younger, after that first left hander, there was a chicane that they put in on some races to keep the cars from going so fast into what is called the keyhole turn before big straight, and the straight has a slight right hander which is off camber, used to make car light at about 145 mph . . scary.
I used to hate Nascar, but the truth is, the oval is deceptively simple looking. Those cars go around 185 but they don't have nearly the same downforce that a Formula car has. So some guys will come out of turns at ridiculous angles, or they'll get nudged resulting in a lot of wobble, and to control that kind skid at that speed in conditions over a hundred degrees is incredible. Indycar is just as good too, but for different reasons.
Nascar Beefs up racing with there stupid digger cam and the "Lucky dog," it just isn't real racing anymore. 10 laps of caution for a spin, no debris, no problem on track!!! 10 laps!!!!!!!!!!! I prefer racing!!!!!!
@KJStrasen People don't understand the fact that NASCAR's have huge power, skinny tyres, with no down force, it takes a ton of skill to be able to keep NASCAR's going straight let alone race them.
hey nice video. I'm a huge racing fan mostly stock cars but I like open wheel racing to, I like the speeds they get, they go faster than stock cars.awesome video
you sound like a real expert...have you ever been to a nascar race? a road race? ever see a indy car run? i have, and all are impressive up close. ive also been to a SCCA rally, you see a lot of cars for about 8 seconds each, more of a drivers event than a spectator event.
LOL yes I've been to the Indy races in Vancouver...those were pretty good, but thats only because they actually had CURBS, it wasnt a full OVAL...and why are you talking to me about WRC being a drivers sport? This comes from someone using NASCAR as an example, hmm i want to spend my day looking at fat americans going in circles in shit american cars, FUN FUN FUN !! If you want to see a real motor sport, go look at the Dubai F1 imitation, now thats dope, everyone has the same cars, its the driver
And fuck yeah I would want to go to a rally and see a car for 8 seconds, because i know how much skill it takes to participate in that event, i dont go to a rally or race and expect it to be as entertaining as a soccer game, the fun for me is appreciating the speed and handling at which the drivers are going, and to admire their cars, and nascar just doesnt cut it...there's got to be a reason why only 2 countries in the whole WORLD actually watch it...
Racing on ovals is the gayest shit ever, I HATE INDY AND NASCAR, Formula 1 is the real racing, and also WRC is pretty sweat...The real racing skill and fun comes from circuit racing, whether it's GT or karting, that is the real shit, and it takes much more skill to be able to control your car...unlike ovals where you go in circles, the only people watching those are fat americans who want to go see a horrible car crash, they dont care if the drivers have no skill, or the sport is gay...
I do believe this year it was personal preference, but next year paddle shifters will be required. I would have thought it'd be easier to use paddle shifters on a road course.

You though Vancouver was a good race because it had curbs? Wow you're an idiot.

uhm, no. I said Vancouver was a DECENT race because it wasn't boring oval racing

I like this championship... their cars remind me F1 in 1980s .. MAybe like 1988 ,... and the sound are pretty similar... but Ovals tracks sucks

boring ovals? well you dunno anything about good racing then. Nothing against road courses there awesome speically mid ohio.

Finally an IRL-car where open wheelers are meant to be: on a road course instead of wasting time on boring ovals!
Michaelingolfhansen 3 years ago 3
If IRL-cars are meant to be anywhere, it's on ovals. American Open Wheel began on ovals. The biggest American Open Wheel race is an oval race.
The failure of Champ Car proved that American Open Wheel Racing cannot succeed without ovals and the Indy 500.
toiletsrus 3 years ago
The new series desperately needs more raod courses, at the moment there are too many ovals :)

Stick Shift ?! wow amazing, but cooler than gay F1 paddles.
I hope america becomes one series and not two.
partikelstrom 4 years ago
It's a sequential manual gearbox. Its a lever, you pull back to upshift, push forward to downshift. Not exactly a conventional, H-gate "stick shift"
szelag 3 years ago 2
i see. thx but its pretty cooler than Steering Wheel paddles.

The engine sound sucks! They need to use the Champ Car's turbo engin or have the same sound as F1.

Paddle shifters are not allowed until the 2008 season.
Kaaveh5 4 years ago 2
It's just a sequential (like a paddle shift), just with an adjacent gear shift lever
