You can split the audio track from an existing video but it’s not possible to separate the voice track, music and effects. They will all be included in one audio track.

I used Corel VideoStudio Pro X2 to edit a wedding video. A painful experience. I don't think this program should have the term "pro" attached to it, as I'm not finding it worth the price. It barely did much better than Windows Movie Maker in that respect. Very simplistic in what it offers and difficult to deal with and prone to freezing and crashing. I could be too picky though.

It is possible to edit the quality of the video, but not to increase it. For example, if you have an HD video you can save the video as a standard definition video file and the quality of the video will then be standard rather than HD. If you have a standard definition video file, you can save it as an HD video file but it won't increase the quality of the video.

@iPenguinProduction Can you check that your screen resolution is set correctly in Windows? The resolution should be at least 1024x768, higher if you have a monitor larger than 17". The workspace elements can be moved around, so it's possible that you may have dragged the library to the left or the timeline towards the top of the screen. i love this program but one thing annoys me. where there is a transition between clips on the timeline, when the transition finishes, the audio ALWAYS glitches or clicks. but if i split the audio from the corresponding videos and then alternate the corresponding split audio tracks: 1st audio on voice track,2nd audio on music track etc..) the audio is perfect. it did exactly the same error on video studios' 7,9 and 10 too. in short, if i use transitions, i must split the audio from video.

open new project. select 4x3 in the project properties (edit>general option).drop 16x9 clip into timeline.when exported,it will be letterboxed. if you want 4x3 fullscreen and aren't bothered about widescreen being distorted,click on the video clip in timeline,click attributes tab,check distort video. now right click in video window and choose fit to screen. now you can export it. if you want 4x3 with no distortion,you will have to crop video whilst keeping the aspect ratio before fit to screen.

on the drop down menu beside the preview screen,choose video filter>2d mapping. drop the cropping filter onto video clip. next, click the customize filter button. uncheck fill colour. enter these values to crop the side off 16x9 to leave 4x3 ratio: height should be 100, width should be 74. you must specify these for both start and end points for the clip. the width values is approximate as there are slighty different widescreen ratios. click ok. then distort the clip and fit to screen.

Set the Project Properties to 4:3. Click on File --> Project Properties. Now click on Edit and select the General tab. Set the "Display aspect ratio" to 4:3 but please understand that our program cannot resize a clip/movie from 16:9 ( Widescreen ) because it will stretch the images and wont look good. Corel VideoStudio Pro X2 will add a black band on the top and bottom of the clip/movie and after burning the project to a DVD you can use your own TV settings to set de display to to 4:3.

ToAndrew4700 You can drag and drop a clip anywhere on the timeline BETWEEN two clips

and you can grab any clip already in the time line and drag it to a new location between clips and it will push itself into the timeline.Or cut a clip (use the scissors icon) and drop a file in there.

Hi ts4muda You can cut out any part of your video in Windows Movie Maker. Taking your example.Put the Timeline Indicator at 20 secs and click SPLIT ( find it below the Viewer Window on the right hand side) Move the Indicator to 3 mins and click SPLIT again. Right click between the 2 split points "REMOVE" or press DELETE key. It will be similar in Movie Studio.

Hi 395raer I have version 11 and I assume the latest version is the same on this point. The video and audio are locked together and can not be separated. You could do what you are after quite easily in Sony Vegas Platinum.The best I could suggest for now is to put the titles over your video background

@395raerae I have already replied to you but as an after thought you could block out the initial video you don't want to see by dragging a color onto the overlay track and resizing to cover the video on the timeline. The title would then show on the color not the video

Load your title onto the Title track.

Now click on Gallery dropdown list and select the "Color" option. Select one of the colour samples and drag it to the main timeline track, this colour will be used as a background for you title and will automatically position itself to the left on the movie track.

Stretch the colour on the timeline to match the length of your title

Now drag the movie after the colour and test the project.

The program is great, but I can't get it to smoothly run. After five to ten edited movie files, movement begins to jerk until a window pops up saying things like: 'This program is not responding, or unable to allocate memory'. Another time I get a Runtime error message until everything freezes. When I press Ctrl/Alt/Del, several green monitor appear on the bottom right of the monitor and I have to restart the computer.

i'm affraid the software has a major bug... if i choose to save videos in .wmv format without having any effects on the movies in my timeline, it saves ok, but if i have some effects in the timeline and i choose to save it as .wmv the program crashes. Btw.. i didn't notice this thing in the trial version :) ...

Anyway.. great video editior! Very very great job.

And the price? This should be sold at least with the $150 price tag.

Nope. No banners, fully functioning. After 30 days it expires then you can't use it unless you buy and get activation code. But it's reasonably proceed. I've seen it on sale from Corel as low as $39.99 USD. It's a great program.

Do not use DivX file in an editing program, they make it slow way down, convert your files to uncompressed or get the lagarith or huffyuv codecs.

I'm using the trial version right now. I can see that you can add a "fade to black effect" but I dont see a fade in white effect. A lot of ppl say that this program has tons of effects but it looks to me like it's very limited, at least with the trial version. Is there more effects with the real version or something?

I'm currently making a video with this software and every time I overlap both clips it gives me an unwanted transistion instead of the basic fade in and out affect, anyone know how to change that? Also sometimes when i play the project and it moves onto the next scene/clip it freezes for a good 5 seconds then carries on and it does it everytime.

you can change the transitions by going to effects they have about 1000 different transitions that can be customized.. also, the freezing part is due to your computer it will go away once you burn it to a disk or download it to youtube, the same thing happened to me.
