Genres don't have anything to do with footwear while playing. I've seen jazz drummers play barefoot at high-paying gigs, and metal guys play in army boots. It's not the music you play that defines your playing footwear, but what makes you feel comfortable. I play with and without and don't find any difficulty in playing exactly the same.
