if you are still checking your comments - i am looking at getting one of these later this year, and was wondering what it was like as a daily drive, and if you had any major problems with yours
@MrAusdrifter Daily drive is just like any other normal family car,no problem so far, everything works great, only a few wear and tear parts need replacement like brake pads and belts, other than that...none...not bad for a 12years old car...

love Altezzas best car ive ever drive very smooth and gutsy i went to some place and got sme of ma air intake pipes shaved and boi has it made a difrence i evin got ma pisten heads shaved . it took ma hp frm 240 to 345hp :P
It's is not as noisy if the exhaust is kept standard, its a performance luxury sedan,so what to expect..its a well balanced car, although the 3SGE Beams need to be worked to get the HEAVY RS200 goes fast,it feels slow below 5000rpm,but above that,it goes quite fast..especially in 3rd and 4th gear
@oohootenGSR OOOOooo a gsr.......piece of shit car....id rather own a is 300 before i come near an old geezzer thats why ppl dont like honda owners.......they think their car is a friggin rocket ship....
If you want a Performance Japanese Car that is non turbo (for insurance) around the year 2000 mark, then the choices are roughly - Altezza RS200 (210hp), Skyline R34 GT 2.5L (190hp), Nissan Silvia NA - 160hp, and various Honda's. They are all roughly the same price (between 14k 20k New Zealand Dollars).Out of the bunch, I think the RS200 was the best which is why I bought it. Rebadged Lexus with a good engine and handling. Not too boy racy either :->
I'm thinking of getting rid of my bmw 323i (2.5L Straight 6) to get an rs200... but going to a 6 speed manual with a 4 cylinder (albeit a pretty powerful one) I'm a bit concerned about. My car can cruise or really go for it, but to get the best out of the rs200 it sounds like you have to rev the nuts off it. Are they noisy to drive around normally? my Beemer has a really loud engine.
Between 2000-4500 rpm, it accelerates fine. But you don't get that sudden pushed into the seat feeling until you hit 4500rpm, then the acceleration becomes rapid uptil 8000rpm, so like a VTEC. In other words, you need to rev it to go fast . But thats half the fun :->
Yeah you're right. I just test drove one the other day. I tested the AS200 (6 cyl) and it was very slow, then tested the RS200, and genuinely haven't enjoyed driving a car so much for years. They're gutsy even at low revs, then once you get them revving, they're very fast.
The HKS muffler gives a deep rumble. If you have the budget,go for HKS 4-1 racing header and full system up to the rear. The Dual Beams is like a cat purring compared to L26,it barks. :-)
Yes,it is Dual BEAMS VVTi 2 litre engine.Car is pretty much standard except for HKS 4-2-1 extractor and free flow muffler.Altezza is a heavy car in standard form.
daamn i want an altezza but cant afford it :(

I just noticed that in this video, the rev counter and the speedo are on different sides compared to other Altezza dashboards - is this common?
NZMantaGSi 1 year ago
@NZMantaGSi The one shown here is the normal one, the other one would be the TRD dash

Get an IS300 and do Altezza swaps. Same body, just different heart and brains...my friend is trying to do that to his IS300.
LonewolfSaichi 2 years ago
@LonewolfSaichi ... sounds like a good idea. xD
Corkoth55 2 years ago
Though its not a pure JDM altezza, it will still have the heart and look of one. I plan to do this myself when I have the money.
