I was really shocked to know that there are more than 2 candidates. Why the others were not invited to the debate. The honesty of the US media is in question, at least for me!
They were not invited to debate because the body that administers those debates and decides who appears and what questions will be asked is run by an individual from the Democratics and an individual from the Republican party, they rig the race to favour themselves - it is CORRUPT.
I think those debates used to be administered by "The league of women voters" (not exactly sure of that atm) but was taken over by interests in the two mainstream parties in the late 80's early 90's.

The 3rd party candidates did louisy this presidential election. I personally think the votes were deliberately not counted, at least where Bob Barr is concerned.
I would have gone out and seen him if he would of came anywhere with in 25 miles of Reading, PA. I always enjoy watching him on Bill Maher and the few interviews he sometimes gets on the big networks. But the guy didn't campaign, look at what Obama did. After giving midnight speeches he would be on TV the next day at 6am in the morning. He barely ever had time to sleep more than 5 or 6 hours. Nader simply wasn't working that hard.
The real problem is that Nader, Barr, and McKinney don't travel the country campaning and yet still expect that people will vote for them. None of the 3rd party candidates came to my state to talk to us and tell us what their plans for America are. It's so easy to raise money online, they could have driven from state to state. They lost because they didn't campaing.
How are people ever going to find out about them to support them? The youth, especially, believe that there are only two parties! The media is for the two parties, such that an independent will never win!!! Ignorant people, I tell ya. And if you say that they won't win anyway, you even more ignorant.

"Lesser of 2 evils" is an empty cliche, and it's hard to be too cynical about Obama when you hear his story and listen to him speak.
Look, I'm not saying either of the two major parties has THE best solutions to America's problems, but let's be honest, people are creatures of habit. And there is much historical basis for a two-party system, going all the way back to the Federalists and the Anti-federalists in the 1700s. America has always had a de facto two-party system and it's tradition, not the result of media scheming and plotting.

The problem with the two party system is not the two parties, but their inability to work together to achieve common goals. When third party candidates attack the major candidates they are doing no better. People don't take Nader seriously because he is more interesting in attacking the republican and democratic parties than finding out real solutions. The third party candidates are not covered because a lot of what they say is directed toward the two party system, rather than the issues.

They were not invited to debate because the body that administers those debates and decides who appears and what questions will be asked is run by an individual from the Democratics and an individual from the Republican party, they rig the race to favour themselves - it is CORRUPT.
I think those debates used to be administered by "The league of women voters" (not exactly sure of that atm) but was taken over by interests in the two mainstream parties in the late 80's early 90's.

I would have gone out and seen him if he would of came anywhere with in 25 miles of Reading, PA. I always enjoy watching him on Bill Maher and the few interviews he sometimes gets on the big networks. But the guy didn't campaign, look at what Obama did. After giving midnight speeches he would be on TV the next day at 6am in the morning. He barely ever had time to sleep more than 5 or 6 hours. Nader simply wasn't working that hard.

The real problem is that Nader, Barr, and McKinney don't travel the country campaning and yet still expect that people will vote for them. None of the 3rd party candidates came to my state to talk to us and tell us what their plans for America are. It's so easy to raise money online, they could have driven from state to state. They lost because they didn't campaing.

When the bill came, I decided not to tip the waiter because he was wearing an Obama T-shirt. I explained to him after i ate that I wasn't going to tip him but I was going to redistribute his tip to someone that I deemed more in need, specifically the homeless guy outside. And there is much historical basis for a two-party system, going all the way back to the Federalists and the Anti-federalists in the 1700s. The problem with the two party system is not the two parties, but their inability to work together to achieve common goals. When third party candidates attack the major candidates they are doing no better. People don't take Nader seriously because he is more interesting in attacking the republican and democratic parties than finding out real solutions. The third party candidates are not covered because a lot of what they say is directed toward the two party system, rather than the issues.

Think about it this way. The current paralysis in Congress is not due to the two party system, but rather the inability to compromise. Congressmen vote down bills of the opposing party. Can you imagine what it would be like to have four parties like that. Absolutely nothing would get done.
The media is not blocking these candidates out. The media is reporting what people want to hear. Nader is polling around 4%. The media and the debates are not for gaining support. They discuss the issues.

The media doesn't educate people on the other parties, because, while they exist, some states don't have them o the ballot, therefore, if they did and those people wanted to vote for them, they couldn't. So the media only educates people on the 'democrat party' and the 'republican party'.

In the federalist papers, Alexander Hamilton argued against multiple political factions because it would create chaos and resist change. He said that political parties are undesirable but necessary. So he concluded that we must limit political parties as much as possible, so thus came the two party system.
Debates are for arguing the issues, not to garner support. The reason need money to get support because we live in a capitalistic society of advertisements and television based on popularity.

I agree, I think all the minor party people should vote Nader, I use to be alibertarian, am currently a green Party member (but boy did they let me down this year with Cynthia Mckinny she a racist bigot), but I am definitely giving Nader my full support this year. Unfortunately when you don't let people debate they don't have a fair shot at getting in office, we have to remember he is currently polling 3rd, so lets team up and get him in office? the top 5 minor parties have a lot in common.

Both partys have always let me down. They've always raised the deficit. They've never down sized our over sized government. There's always been war... They've never lowered my taxes, etc., etc. This is the perfect time and oppertunity to give the 3rd party a chance to see what their made of. It only 4 years. They make sense and I tend to agree with their means and methods, so does middle america. They uphold the Consitution while Republicrats change it to fit THEIR needs.

Keep in mind that the GOP wants leftists to vote for Nader. It's a futile gesture that just siphons off support from the only true alternative to Bush-McCain policies: Obama.
Until you can actually establish a viable 3rd party, it just doesn't make sense to vote for Nader. It helps McCain/Palin just as in the past it helped Bush get into power.
