I often think about how there must have been tens of thousands of soldiers if not more during the First and Second World Wars; Germans, Russians, Americans, Brits, & Frrench who loved this movement and who knew they were most likely going to die very unpleasantly- how personal this movement must've been to them since Beethoven had himself dedicated it to French soldiers who had died because of Napoleon's relentless lust for war.
