@starsweet4 No. In real life, while filming that scene, once the horse was partially submerged, they swapped it for an animatronic horse. It is a myth that has been doing the rounds for years.

Generally, filmmakers don't kill animals to make movies.

@starsweet4 The only person who was hurt was the actor who played Atreyu who was badly injured when the horse reared it`s head and hit his legs and he fell and was submerged in the swamp and was unconcious when pulled out.

He heavily criticised the director who made the actors do their own stunts leading to many accidents and confirmed the horse story was a myth.

OMG! This is one of the best soundtrack songs to go with such a cute movie from the 80's! It was a favorite of mine then and still is today. It is such a heartwarming song! I always wanted a sweet old flying bear( or whatever he is hahaha) that I could ride through the skies on back then. The 80's was such a fun time to be alive! To feel so carefree! I had so many fun times and crazy times too and some of the best memories of my life in the 80's! I just love the 80's so much! I miss it too! :-(
