  • SANDERSON and cashman were bullys , its funny to see tony espo wresle and bobby orr push around

  • Nov. 8, 1970. I wonder if the Bruins remembered this

night the following April when Dryden & Company,

plus the lousy play of Orr, created a great upset.

  • @34Packardphaeton

    thanks for the date info

added it to clip description, too

  • God I miss old time "hockey". Make the games 18 years and older and bring it back. lol

  • Great stuff. Old time hockey. 2 very talented teams beating the crap out of each other.

  • It looks like a fight hatrick on the ice. I love it!!

    WOOOooo... Go B's!!

  • Hahaha! I see things haven't changed for the Bruins. Still today they use violence and intimidation to compensate for their lack of talent at playing real hockey. They're a shame for the sport.

  • People rarely messed with Ken Hodge

  • i love how there's no helmets, but this is probably why we need them now!!! lol

  • What year was this?

  • Nice!! Go Habs Go!!!!!

  • Habs??

  • @Jdub14000

Les Habitants are one of the Montreal Canadiens nicknames

  • @hockeybooks Thanks man.

  • that's nasty

  • And to think some people actually don't want fighting in hockey!

  • Who's the ref? Is that the late Art Skov? Get in and help your linesman your arrogant sob. It's an exceptional situation in a game YOU let get out of hand.

  • back when hockey players were men

  • turk was the best face off man in the league

  • moodyblue... sanderson was NOT tough... he only ever went after people who had their backs to him. he was rarely brave enough to go toe to toe (unless it was a player who was much smaller). watch him in this video grab lapointe from behind once lapointe has the upper hand on cashman (another cowardly character) and they do the two-on-one thing. typical gutless action by both these two.

  • @SheepOnDrugz I disagree. I believe he was being a good teammate. It was common practice back then when a teammate was prone in a vulnerable position (as Cashman was in this example) that a teammate would step in to protect his teammate in the event an official wasn't available to step in. As you can see, Cashman was thrown to the ice as Lapointe kept pumelling him and could've potentially caused serious injury to a vulnerable opponent. Good teammate Turk!

  • This was when hockey was hockey!! Long live old time hockey!

  • lol @ 1:31 should have started playing a waltz on the organ when the goalies started dancing.

  • i think the actuall fight, not the first one, but when the whole of the 2 teams started getting into it, was because the habs guy in the first fight didnt get off him after he fell

  • People always talk about Gillies and O'Reilly and Bob Kelley. But no one was tougher than Wayne Cashman. He was a devastating machine. I saw him systematically take people apart in fights.

  • @Rattus17 You got that right!!

  • @Rattus17

i also host the cashman-schonfeld fight,

where they crash thru the Zamboni doors,

    and just keep on fighting

  • @Rattus17 -- Gillies was more devastating than Cashman... Cashman was never the #1 tough guy in the league... Gillies ruled the NHL for years until Bob Probert came along.

  • Was it 1vs1 after this? lol crazy fucks

  • "We're going to have a donnybrook!"

    That's awesome!!

  • This sort of thing just doensn't happen much anymore

  • I miss those days of epic bench clearing brawls!

  • lol a 5minute brawl with no one getting hurt...COME ON!...my uncle was in a bar with a broken ankle and a brawl happend when a copper stepped on his toe...yep thats right he FUCKING KNOCKED THE PIGS ASS TO KO WORLD!

  • Eddie Shore? Piss on Eddie Shore! Old-time hockey? Piss on old-time hockey! We're LOSING!

    Oh, and SIMMONS.

  • What a DONNYBROOK!

    Simmons

  • this is why i listen to simmons

  • @sportsguy33 SIMMONS 4 EVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

  • KAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHNNNNN!!! B.S.

  • Boston Garden was one of the relic rinks - it was short through the neutral zones and the benches were not on the same side. As for the "Big Bad Bruins", they kicked ass and took names and went from worst to first in the late '60s and early '70s after they acquired whiny Phil Esposito - and then pouted and moaned when the Broad Street Bullies cleaned their clocks and ate their lunch in the '74 Cup Finals. Loved the Turk - and remember, he was his class' Rookie of the Year.

  • Gotta love a good donnybrook

  • Weird. Why are the teams on different sides of the ice? When did that change?

  • @bhbs

it was even worse at the Montreal Forum, where the penalty was right beside the habs bench,

    and opposite the visitors

    Don Cherry hated that

  • Simmons you wiley little SOB I love you!

  • kaaaahnnnn!!!!!

  • @biggs087 i laugh everytime i see someone write that, everytime

  • That was a serious donnybrook right there.

  • Henceforth, anyone who posts "Simmons" is an idiot.

  • The Turk, Derek Sanderson. He once had something kuje $6000 stolen from his glove compartment, which was ton of money in the early 70s.

  • When hockey was hockey.

  • I remember Tiger Williams claiming that Cashman was one of the dirtiest players in the game. Something about how Cashman tried to kick him in the eyes and O'Reilly actually had to lay on him to protect him.

  • One thing I've noticed in all the videos is that the Bruins players were very protective of each other. Especially Bobby Orr and Derek Sanderson.

  • Awesome video, and I remember the days of bench clearing before they had the 3rd man in. Derek Sanderson was my boyhood idol. This is when "Hockey was Hockey" and if this happenned today, the NHL would've suspended both teams till 2090, (lol)

  • the canadiens could play at a high level and handle themselves in the brawls when provoked.the montreal teams of the 70s have to be near the top.

  • I remember this game, Those were the days.

  • What year was that?

  • @Forsure3333 1970.

  • Lapointe looked as if he intended to kill that Bruins!

  • in Today's game Cashman would be thrown out for the year!!

  • how did sanderson avoid a "game misconduct?", cause this is when hockey was hockey.--& it was Damned Good Thank You--Derek Has the Best hockey stories Barr None

  • Stupid Canadiens, you never fuck with The Big Bad Bruins!

  • @Jiltedin2007 bruins in 75 struggling years got 5 Stanley

montreal have 24 in 100 years

    do the maths retard!

bruins was always good to fight but couldnt score...

  • Who cares about your Stanley Cups anyway Canadian Piece of Shit!

Bruins were good to fight but couldn't score. Right? And what was Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito doing. The Greatest Defensemen in NHL History weren't scoring for the Bruins.

Why don't you do the math Retard!

  • @Jiltedin2007 hey fucktard even with Howe the B's couldnt do shit...imagine if Montréal had Orr !!35 Stanley!!!

Fail...just like that overpaid team you got!!!

    GOLD for CANADA!!!!!

  • @Jiltedin2007

Canadiens are the only ones with balls big enough to go against the Big Bad Bruins.

  • @kwizzeh

Oh yeah, I know! Just like that Dumb Fuck Pierre Bouchard who got owned by Stan Jonathan. Right? Oh yeah, it takes "Balls Big Enough" to get the shit beat out of you! Take your Stanley Cups and just shove them up your Asses!

If you're stupid enough to mess with The Big Bad Bruins, you'll pay the price!

  • @Jiltedin2007 I So angry. Too bad your Bruins are just shadows of their former selves.

  • @kwizzeh Yeah, whatever.

  • THIS is hockey. F U Gary Bettman.

  • 32 minutes of penalties? That's it? Really? How did Sanderson avoid the game misconduct?

  • they didn't have the "third man: in thingy back then...that's why more superstars of teams need to fend for themselves more so in the last say 10-15 years

  • ah ok. I just looked it up and 3rd man in didn't occur until the 71-72 season in response to the Rangers/Leafs fiasco at the end of the prior season. So yes, this pre-dated that. Thank you.

  • how did sanderson avoid a "game misconduct?", cause this is when hockey was hockey.

  • This was before they handed out game misconducts for third man in. Back then, all you got was 5 for fighting and that was it.....no matter what. That's just the way the NHL was back then.

  • Guy Lapointe layed out Cashman lol

  • "Cashman can really throw 'em" ???? He got pummeled by Guy Lapointe.

  • Sanderson is a Loser!

  • My Dad and I were at that game. Lots of fun back then at the old Boston Garden. Orr is the best player ever.

  • yeah someone commented on another fight that lapointe pounded cashman, well they should watch it again because cashman definetly got the better half

  • God I hate it when the announcers would get on their high horse and say how horrible this stuff was. Just shut up and call the damn brawl!

  • Man Derek Sanderson was one tough guy. Too bad he was kind of a thug too, but back in the day of old school hockey, that was the way the game was played, before the third man in rule, and the leaving the bench rule, and the let's never fight rule. Too much fighting isn't good, but it IS an important part of the game sometimes as well. Sanderson, for all his faults, was still the man. THAT is old school!

  • was it coke or booze that fueled his toughness ??? both..LOL

  • @TheMoodyBlue1 Sanderson was tough when he had teddy green backing him up, I saw Bob Plager hold him by his hair and beat the living shit out of him, In the end Sanderson signed with the WHA.

  • @TheMoodyBlue1 had he concentrated on hockey more he woulda been an all time great...he coulda scored 100 pts...great passer

  • gotta love the b's yeahhhh

  • if it wasn't for bettman, hockey would be like this today....Fuck you bettman

  • @Ch33rios00

what the fucks wrong with u people?

u and so many others prefer ridiculous childish fighting over actual HOCKEY

  • For the record the Bruins won this game 6-1 over the Canadiens but the Habs had the last laugh as they beat the B's in 7 games in the playoffs.

  • The two best hockey teams at the time, in the best era of hockey in the best part of the world Montreal Quebec/ Boston (New England) Massachusetts.

  • Someone called Orr overrated? That's hilarious...

  • LOL at the guy who called Orr overrated. Obviously a dumb comment.

  • jonasnight at least 20 games !! lol !!

  • 32 minutes in penalities? today that would be 300 minutes in penalties and suspensions for 20 games...the nhl is pussified nowadays!

  • @jonasnight Because crybaby liberals whine about the violence.

  • @kasey9fan I believe hockey was much safer when players were allowed to police themselves. "The Code" has been discarded & disregarded by many in current NHL as they know they are protected by officials rather than by accounting for their own dignity & respect for others & the game in general.

  • @jonasnight plus one hell of a fine for roughing up the fans

  • Don't fuck with Wayne Cashman! He'll kick your ass!

  • montreal fights like pussys.

  • agreed

  • Guy Lapointe beat the shit out of Wayne Cashman lol

  • ah the good old days

  • Lapointe owned Cashman in their fight

  • that's some pure, unadulterated badassery

  • "and we're gonna have a donny brook right down below us here!" haha i love it so much! too bad bettman ruined the NHL for my generation and i will never be able to see hockey like it was before =(

  • How did Bettman ruin it?

  • by adding teams such as tampa bay, dallas, and phoenix to the nhl which have no business in hockey. and its shwoing now as most of them are bankrupt. By reducing fighting and introducing the instigator penalty

  • Oh I agree wit that. You could also add Florida, Carolina, and San Jose.

It seems like all of the sports have too many teams.

    .

  • I met this guy once who was born and raised in Boston. Diehard Bruins fan. Last name Richard. Said his family was of French-Canadian descent and that he was--I kid you not--a third cousin of Maurice "Rocket" Richard.

  • id hate to be the guy on the bottom

  • I love "donnybrooks"

  • fucking faggots have ruined the sport nowadays...we need more of this

  • i wish hockey was like that these days..

  • Screams for a slapshot quote ...."The fans are standing up to them. The security guards are standing up to them. The peanut vendors are standing up to them. And by golly, if I could be down there, I'd be standing up to them."

  • old time hockey boys and girls old time hockey

  • "As the Boston police step in"...when was the last time you heard that?!?!? lol

  • A toast to the glory days of hockey! Fans could always look forward to a game bonus in the form of a great fight, maybe two - or better still ....a bench clearing brawl.

  • I didn't realize Bavis died too I seen some of his college games .

  • Bailey didn't he die on one the planes that hit the twin towers during 911

  • Yes, he did, with Mark Bavis. Both were scouts for the LA Kings.

  • The other voice you'll hear is Tom Larson, longtime between-periods host of Boston Bruins' telecasts.

I believe his voice-over was recorded many years later for one of a series of programs on the New England Sports Network (NESN) looking back on the 1970's-era Boston Bruins.

The 1970 game during which this brawl broke-out was originally broadcast live on Boston's WSBK-TV.

  • Because announcers Don Earle (later the voice of the Philadelphia Flyers in their mid-1970's Stanley Cup years) and John Pierson (a former Boston Bruins' player) were busy describing what happened on the ice, they missed dozens of fights in the stands.

Later that night, there was looting outside the old Boston Garden and there were seven or eight arrests. But Boston authorities covered-up the fact there had been looting outside the Garden, and the news media never learned about it.

  • But you are right about Sanderson being able to wreck anybody on the Habs. Hell, all he'd have to do is breathe on them and the smell of alcohol would knock them out.

  • Hey 10W7, the only thing Sanderson ever wrecked was himself and his career. I used to get a kick out of him doing commentary on NESN though. He sounded drunk even when he was sober. At least I think he was sober.

  • @medaman69 What do you know about Derek Sanderson? Yes he drank and later in his life he talked to high schools and colleges about the dangers of alcohol and drug abuse, so don't talk about what you don't know.

  • I miss 70s hockey so much. The refs back then were really underpaid. This was also a time when the stars would fight but now they just want to protect their pretty little mug.

  • here we go BRUINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I HATE GUY CARBONNEAU

  • Sanderson was a useful player but was over-rated and way over payed in the WHA.I like him though, thought he was a cool guy,and I am a Habs fan!!

  • Sanderson would wreck anyone in the history of the habs

  • go habs go

  • 32 minutes in penalties when the dust settled! Today there would have been 32,000.

  • Sanderson was not only one of the all time best face-off players, but he could also fight like hell...

Too bad the WHA ruined him....

  • It was booze that ruined him. He drank the WHA money away.

  • Yep, quick money has destroyed many a good man. You know, for a while he had a clause in his contract that he had a choice on whether or not to play road games...

    I wish he'd write his autobiography...booze..dope...women...

What a story. Hockey's Keith Richards...

  • it wasnt the WHA it was the booze and drugs.

  • BoSox,

Yep. See my comment 3 stories below... :)

  • Your other comment was dead on. But don't imply that if the WHA didnt exist, he wouldnt have had the money to be a complete drunken fool. One of the most infamous stories happenened when Derek was a Bruin before the WHA. He had Wayne Cashman with him in Detroit on a road trip. They got drunk, Derek bought a Rolls Royce, and left it at the airport. 3 weeks later the Detroit police called him and asked him if his car was stolen. He didnt even remember buying it!

  • I'd never heard that, but I believe you.

Another one..which he has frequently told..his 'bottomed out' story, as it were...was the time he got into a scuffle or something with a homeless guy in a a public park (I think in Boston..what it was about I forget..) Anyway, Derek, tired of everything asked the guy: 'Don't you know who I am?', and the guy answered 'Yeah...you're a drunk...just like me.'

I understand it was after that when he realized he had a serious problem, and sought help.

  • Btw., Is he still doing any color commentating for the B's?

Haven't seen him in a while.

  • No he is heading a financial firm, helpinbg athletes and high net worth people invest their money so they don't blow it all like he did.

  • montybiesis99,Hey you!! Hey numbnuts!! You are one simple son-of-a-bitch. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

  • Greatest clip in 38 hockey years.

The Montreal pricks are exposed for what they were.Cheap shot,anti-USA french punkasses!

  • habs vs bruins at boston's largest football field in two years! anyone who agrees give a thumbs up!

  • yea cuz the b's are gunna kick ass

  • Man, this is fuckin' awesome! I LOVE hockey!!

  • old time hockey right there

  • I think its time to call in the National guard

  • WOOOOOOOO!!! lapointe kicked Cashman's ass!! HA HA HA HA HA HA!! Love it!!

  • are you a blind frog watch the fight again.you sound like them TSN retards.

  • i have a 1969 play-off game on tape,

    where savard DID out-play orr

    and i didn't say "out-rush", orr's speed was un-matched

  • no serge savard didn't 'out-rush' orr. ridiculous.

  • Bruins really beat the crap out of the frogs in this one...Canadiens all looked like women anyway, being french canadien and all it makes sense...

  • C'est drole que dans les années 50-60, les meilleurs joueurs d'hockey etaient canadiens/francais.

  • Shut up stupid ignorant racist! Lapointe was kicking the ass to Cashman. Until 2 Bruins attacked him the American way. By behind.

  • Too bad old man invalid senile wannabe "living off his brother" Henri Richard wasn't out there instead quicvering in the locker room hiding and sobbing - would have lvoed to see Terry O'Reilly pounding the SOS...

  • Terry O' Reilly just started his NHL career in 71. One year after this brawl. Anyway, if he was playing now, O Reilley would be kicked of the ring by any of these frogs (or French family named guys): Laracque, Coté, Boulerice, Brashear, Godard, Bissonnette And you, by my 81 years old grandma. But, I confess, maybe not those days where she feels a little bit exhausted after her 2 hours of 400 pounds bench pressing session. Go grandma, go !

  • are you a faggot?

terry oreilly was the toughest man to ever play the game he would fuck up any canadien especially the faggot ass french ones you fuck and come to boston see how i beat ya ass down

  • You just a fucking frustrated square head. Your fucking problem, you can only understand one language. But it's not your fault, you are so limited. Je peux t'envoyer chier, pis tu comprends rien. Va a l'ecole a place ostie frustre, pis va apprendre d'autre chose, it's will be better for you.

  • It is a problem - not speaking French like the great ones from France, such examples of manliness over the centuries, thank god for "La Resistence" or there would be no France, successful as they were in stopping Germans and all...

  • french people suck just like canadians

    go bruins

  • wow youre fucking stupid arent you? i mean you root for a team filled with canadians. talk about stupidity.

  • filled wit canadians? are you fuckin retarded there are mad europeans and americans on the team fuck tard

and its american cuz you red coats are fuckin faggots and speak pussy language bitch ass nigga

  • Bruins are pussies.

  • jerrychase9 ,

serge savard usually out-played orr ,

until his own knee injury before '70

  • I only wish that I could find the April of '71

    quarter-finals between these two teams.

  • Yup; the late 1960s through the early 1970s battles between the Bruins and the Habs were

real classics. Among my favorites are April

8, 1971. Bruins were up 5-1 late in the 2nd

period. Montreal scores six unanswered goals. Orr was on the ice for five of 'em.

    He was so over-rated.

In April of '68 and April of '71, the same

player scored the winning goal in the last

game between Boston and Montreal. Who was

it? Yes, it was a defenseman. But it was

    NOT Orr.

  • Orr overrated? That's a first I heard that.

So Orr was on the ice for 5 of the 6 goals.....just what does that prove?

  • Looks like big, bad Cash got beat up by a frog.

  • once again Cashman was getting his arse kicked by Lapointe when that asshole Sanderson jumps in and saves him. Cashman rarely fought toe to toe, prefering to cheapshot people while they fought others.

  • actually Orr has new knees

  • lol i wish man.

  • ya habs keep felling we just one 24 stanley cup , and beat you all season long , bruins suck

  • the only way you bruins win the cup is if orr comes out of retirement

  • ya we just beat you 12 consecutive time lol and pratickly and kick you out of the playoff with a younger team and a last 5-0 game lol bruins suck
