I saw this commercial back when I was in the 8th grade. Gave me the creeps. But if I ever saw a woman being abused by her husband, or at least heard it happening, I would for sure call the police and see to it that the husband gets the stiffest penalty possible. No woman should ever have to go through domestic violence from her husband.

An abuser doesn't just hit - they work on their victim for weeks or months or years, wearing away self-esteem and self-respect, gaining control of the victim's life inch by inch, separating them from their friends and family, making them feel like they don't deserve to be treated right and like the abuser is the only one who loves them or will ever love them. It's basically a form of brainwashing. That's what makes it so hard for people to walk away.

@Gothicmonarchist This isn't as cut and dry as the "PSA" crowd makes it sound. People (usually women) provoke domestic violence and then fake they are being victimized when in all reality they started the problem! Women are often the abusers nowdays because they know the law will lock the guy up if he fights back with words (many words are considered at least a 5th degree assualt) or physically to stop a woman from hitting him. Both men and women can leave, if they don't, it's their issue.

A friend of mine who was in that same situation when the was a teenager did. The girl who pulled the same stunt on him after he tried to protect her from an abusive partner got into alot of trouble for doing that to him and her boyfriend got charged for abusing her.

@skanthavelu It makes me sad that what the public service announcements and the news says help someone when you shouldn't. Guys havve to protecting themselves and do nothing. Women stick out abusive relationships for many reasons. Sometimes it's because they want money as they build a case with an attorney for a history of abuse, other times it's to get back at him with child support, it might be because she can't get anyone, it may be because the only way she feels love is through abuse, etc.

And if the girl/woman who was being abused comes and shows me any lip, ie telling me I have a big mouth phoning the police on people, I will tell her to get lost!

Yes, it is beter to call 911 or the police when something like this is going on. But what if calling 911 or the police doesn't stop the abuse? Then what to do?

That type of spousal abuse that the neighbor upstairs is giving his wife is physical abuse and here's what you do about it: If you're in a bad situation, you shouldn't keep everything inside. Go find somebody you can talk to like a parent or the police or just somebody that you trust and they can help you get out of a bad situation and into a good one.
