Well we all know its not an Apache song, but its not a Navajo song either What it is, is Alaskan yes its an Alaskan song and the men sing it when they go out on their canoes the Shaump part is when they are paddling and the paddle hits the water. Joe is a good singier and has a good group but if your going to have Show crowns dancing then they should be dancing to Apache songs.
I truly disagree with all of Mr. Tohonnie's performances. The Ga'an's are considered spiritual dancers..they only come in time of prayer. Like the comment above these performances are for entertainment purposes. Back then white people found it to be entertaining, thats how it all came about. Its good to follow and remember your cultural..BUT DO IT THE RIGHT WAY.-SC APACHE TRIBAL MEMBER.
what a joke this guy is, doesn't know what culture is even if it kicked him in da rear end, would probably sing da humpty dumpty them song and da dancers would dance to it, da songs he sings pertain nothing to Apache crown dancing songs and da dancers are diffidently posers , can tell From a real Apache Dancer from these posers....
i agree thats not a crowndance song why would he sing that song... im a traditonal apache an that song is not right for the crowndancers should dnace too
well yeah i am apache and know the songs and how to make these artifacts, and this isnt even a song for the mountain spirits, i dont even understand what he is singing about
I miss the rez so much, this brings me back home! I'm sure you get a lot of hell about the video, but if it was forbidden for recordin', wouldn't they say to not record or take pictures?! Or not sing and dance in the public? A Navajo ndn that seems to be a lost tribe!!! Ha ha ha
Damnit Man I missed a hellava show! The Apache Crown Dancers always kickass! I miss the REZ and the Fair! All the way from the Sunshine State, Tampa, FL TheCrazedCountryRebel3 of Steamboat Canyon, AZ
I was hoping i might be able to get some history on this song?? My aunt taught the family this song. She told us for years she didn't know where it came from... She doesn't know where she picked up the song... she just started singing it one day. Its just crazy to hear someone else sing it.

It's pretty awesome to see navajo's dancing to apache music. It's nice to see that different native groups support one another.

this is strictly for 'entertainment' purposes, I'm sure 'traditionally' it would be done differently.
