but hey, thats what the sim is for! practice makes perfect. i recently decided to start saving up for my PPL. its still a good few years away, but im big into flight-sims and make upgrades to my computer to get the best sim experience possible.
@dcsilva10 So do I buddy, I'm a real world pilot. Please check out my website at SimSamurai-dot-com. What I am doing is the most afforable way to have a very professional level sim at home. Rather than build one single type aircraft with expensive analog buttons and switches I do everything virtually. I built a robust PC, bought some LCDs, a projector, and I design full scale virtual panels for Microsoft Flight Sim. It's very realistic at the most afforable price possible.
@psyquizlabor64 My cockpit is the XS-1 model which cost ~ $500 in materials and I spent ~ $5,000 over several years equipping it with computer hardware, various software, and flight controls some of which I hand built myself.
@SimSamurai hey man I think that sim that you built is amazing. I would be the happiest person in the world if I could have that, to bad theres no room in my house. Hey, I think its awesome that your a real pilot, what planes do you fly?
I love the gear and I did not mean to insult anyone but I figured that such dedication and attention to detail would include flight operations. Even though we all miss that centerline a bit from time to time, as a flight instructor and line pilot it really is a big deal for us. I can do it in FSX or a Beechcraft 1900D Airliner after a long turbulent leg. Never flew any heavy iron, sorry.
@Moss235 Not the lights, but the tires on the nosegear. The centerline lights are actually countersunk into the runway. The clear lens which the plane rolls over is almost bulletproof.
@Beg2Live4Life There are some built in crash effects to the sim software..but not my hardware although sometimes I do feel like beating it with a bat. :)
@MrMarcuspng I sell blueprints so people can build it themself. The cockpit shell costs less than $500 to make but then you have to add the cost of the computer, monitors, and control hardware.
I use voice control, and get the virtual co-pilot to dial things for me when my hands are full.
Try something called "Multi Crew Experience" voice control for FSX & FS9 (and yest it's got a fully working Demo) and experience the thrill of voice control.
@NTBushPilot I built the XS-1 shell for $500 and the PC, monitors, projector and hardware all cost under $4,000 so for what I have it costs about $25,000 less than many folks you'll see on YouTube who stuff a 737 shell into their basement. The projector is on a rolling ceiling track too so we mostly use it for TV and movies. I pride myself in showing people how to build the most advanced training platform for the least amount of money.
@thegamer1504 The PC cost ~ $1,500 and then the monitors, projector and hardware around $2,000 and the cockpit shell itself only costs $500 in materials. In total it is around a $5,000 investment but that was all spread out over 3 years.
@RellyOhBoy This is because the eye level is indeed correct. The projection screen is 6" below the height of the instrument monitors. When landing, the aircraft is in a nose high attitude and you are looking down over the nose towards the runway and you also flair the nose a little higher for landing. You can't see it on the video but from the pilot's seat the runway can be seen. Lastly, I could've also used the "raise or lower seat" command which adjusts the exterior view but there is no need.
@trechan Yes, its overkill and actually little annoying at times, I need to adjust some config files..one call out would be plenty as that is all a real jet would have.
can u please guide me how to built like this cockpit,Really i have a plan to build 737 cockpit like you, please reply as soon as possible,i waiting for ur reply
@MrShawn1190 The shell itself costs ~$500 in materials and I've spent ~$3,000 in computer and hardware/software plus add the cost of monitors and projector. Basically everything for under 5k. You can learn more via my website..found through my channel page.
im alway amazed when i watch ur videos no matter how much time i watch them..lol andyway where did u get the warning sounds? i was using pm sound from project magenta but it dnt work for me anymore plus how do u make it call twice and with a male and female voice are u using 2 different software at the same time?
@nemonespider great questions! - Actually, there should only be one voice. One set is built into some of the gauges I have on the panel set and the other is specifically built into the Reality XP gauge set I'm using on this panel. So its coming from built in features of the gauges themselves and not software per say. I can shut off one set in the RXP gauges config file. I'll be posting more sim videos soon!
Affordable my arse. Maybe for you wealthy people. Can you donate to me please, it's my 17th BDay in 5 days! :) (I'll tell you my about my life) Anyways, nice video and VERY EXCELLENT setup.
The best PC we have is a Dimension 3000 (Celeron D 1.? GHz) :(
@GOUSN1776 My systems are extremely affordable when you compare them to similar cockpits which have actual knobs and buttons on the pannel or overhead. Advanced flight simulation by any standard will cost more money than just a single PC and one monitor, however I still only use one PC and have several monitors. Regardless I offer the most cost effective and likely most professional solution for this type of training sim.
@SimSamurai Cheaper than pre-made (junk usually) is ALWAYS better. I agree. I'm saying it's not afforable because I have no money. At least until I get my job this summer and then I'm going to BUILD my own gaming PC/flight pit. Not as grandesque as yours though. Perhaps a joystick, yoke/throttle, and panels premade if I can afford it. P.S. Instead of buying the panels that Saitek sells is it possible for me to just display them all on a seperate monitor?
@afgrocks123 Actually you can see more ground because the bottom of the main screen is lower than the instrument panel. This is done very purposefully so that you get a more realistic over the nose perspective.
@DemiousShy Actually Im good at multi-tasking AND my sim is one of the easier ones to set up! Those 737 cockpit builders are the ones that spend 5-10 years making it. Mine only took a few months.
@Makeufamous For the XS-1 / AX-1 I use 3 widescreen mionitors (20" for XS-1 or 22" for the AX-1) and a 15" touchscreen. The main view is via a single projector. The sides have built in recesses for two addtional monitors per side or the front recesses could be cut out and three projectors could be used instead of the side front 45 degree monitors.
@FLPanthersandMarlins My personal model is the XS-1A. The released XS-1 prints are the B model which is larger than what you see in the video by ~4" width. The AX-1 is the same model but an added 6" in depth and width, and is very close to 737 size. Both plan sets include 5 rear height options for the overhead canopy.
Okay hmmm. The thing is, I fly all sorts of planes ranging from the 172 to the 747. Im making an interchangable panel. Ill have diffrent types of panel casings over the monitors for diffrent types of planes. But im also considering making a replica of an ASPEN glass cockpit or somthing like that. Do you have any sort of Glass cockpit panels for sale? Also very nice videos. I saw one of yours a long time ago but never commented on it. Very nice job.
Hello Sim Samurai, Im building a cockpit out of an old Beechcraft sundowner fuselage that I Picked up a while back and im having some trouble deciding what i should do for my gauges. Ive looked at project magenta but their stuff is pretty pricey and i dont want to do a drag and drop method with my cockpit. I cant afford to buy replica guages that are sold on simkits.net, Do you have any ideas on what i can do?
@drmrboy29 You are in luck sir! Just recently I found a great freeware "mega panel pack" for FSX. The file set is called PANEL MANIA v01 by Mike "DickDastardly" Steven. It has 12 full screen panels for 10 of the stock GA aircraft and two helicopers. As a panel designer myself I can vouch for the quality as it looks A+ and is a perfect set for cockpit building. Once in place on the screen you can always have a piece of aluminum water jetted for a more realistic look. (I make them too!)
@billster111 Other than trying the "cycle views" key (W) I don't know off hand. For $20.00 you can buy my 270 page book which has a 35 page chapter on panel design.
how do you make it so the PFD and things, are flipped around for the co-pilot? because i have always wanted to do that but never new how? nice cockpit by the way :)
@billster111 Great question! - I build my own custom cockpit panels using a separate program which is explained in my book. (see my website) Its actually easy to do given the proper instruction which is what I provide. FSX I believe has some built in feature where you can fly from the copilot seat but I don't know if it is an "undockable" panel that can be moved to another monitor. If so that would be the most simplest way. I like building my own panels becuase I can make them more realistic.
