Back in 1977 I was living in the midwest and Eddie and Richie (and Duke Jordan, Bird's favorite pianist, and others) were performing at a local club. They ended up having dinner at my house, courtesy of a musician friend who had toured with Eddie in the 1950s that I was living with at the time. After dinner we went to see them perform. They were great people as well as outstanding musicians.
He's always been one of my favorites, I am a huge fan of scat, vocalese, and the power of the human voice, and Eddie's creativity can still be appreciated thanks to these wonderful clips on YouTube. I did get to see/hear him live @ The Tin Palace - one of those small clubs on Manhattan's Lower East Side - joints like the Village Vanguard, Bottom Line, Village Gate, Sweet Basil's Sam Rivers & Joe Lee Wilson's Jazz Loft - all places within walking distance to my tiny apt. on Mott St - mid 70's.
Nobody could do it like Eddie. Not even to this day. Listen to the lp Main Man and then you will hear the real Eddie Jefferson run the gambit of hie immense talent that he possesed
So pure! So awesome! Bebops biggest fan was also it's greatest singer. It's unfortunate that he is not more widely recognized..... And I say that not for Mr. Jefferson that I share this sentiment, but for the broader general public who have the misfortune of never being exposed to the incomparable Eddie Jefferson's beautiful music. He had the most pure love and respect for Bebop.
"....I never know why some people always try to find some fault with this man and his horn, and when they go to wherever he is playi,n they seem to come to see if whether he is going to tend to business..." Eddie was a True Master.
can someone help me to understand the lyrics after "well my friend, now about miles davis, i never knew what some people..." - how does it go on? THANK YOU LOADS!

One must be ready to chew fast and digest slowly. The energy can wear you out and you're left wanting more.
The bar has been raise the pop music just walks under.
