Actually, the REAL reason for the masks is bc one day Shawn (clown) showed up to practice with it and it was creepy and creeping the band out and he wouldn't take it off and after that, it just stuck. Paul (bass) explains this on the Voliminal Dvd during his interview.

Apparently to some people, a singer in that mindset "makes better music". and someone that has kicked drink, drugs and sees his kids regularly "has turned emo and should tour with Nickleback.
Personally, I like this record. Diversity is good.
a) Most fans of NIN preferred and want more albums where Trent was killing himself with alocohol and drugs because "those records were better" when Year Zero was released.
b) Seems quite a few fans prefer Slipknot when they were killing themselves with alcohol, drugs, and having such conflict with each other that they very nearly broke up, because apparently "that made better albums"

I honestly like this song, and they arent sell outs, just changing their style up a little. Like when the Beatles came out, they were doing their thing that everyone loved. By the end of their time, they had weird, trippy stuff, and they kept all their fans. They made a smooth transition to a different genre of music, and slipknots doing the same.
