HOWEVER - if the student was asked to quietly cooperate and follow the security to some place where they could arrange a temp pass for him to be on site and/or validate if he was indeed, a genuine student of that campus - and he REFUSED to cooperate - they should have called police.

It was the police who tasered him when he refused to leave after repeated warnings. He refused to cooperate. Tasering him was the correct decision, as has been borne out by time.

This officer treated this individual as a suspect because he was breaking the law, trespassing, failing to identify himself, failing to follow a lawful order of a law enforcement office, and presenting himself in a hostile manner by yelling.

Yes this individual is a citizen, but is a suspect in an investigation of a crime. Officer safety is a top priority, as supported by the legistlation and the Supreme Court.

If it is apparent that the arrested doesn't intend to comply with the order, like screaming about the Patriot Act, then another burst is delivered. This is where the operator of a taser must remain calm, and that is where training comes in handy.

I am aware however, that some security guards (and soldiers too) can walk around like little Hitlers without the slightest idea of how they would act in so potentially stressful a situation. Even if he said anything to the cops they had there hands on him as he was willing to leave. The library told him to leave, he left, and was willing to leave, BUT the cops decided on there terms they would make a scene and tased him as he was going to walk out the door. Any police officer will allow the person to just leave if he was not disrupting any person and if he was already leaving. Exactly. It is foolish of some of these people to racialize situations like this. Everything in this day and age is racialized, with people disregarding equality and exploiting the double-standard society has endowed them with. The fact that the student was part-Iranian had nothing to do with how the police acted, especially since the way he was acting would, you would think, provoke thought that has absolutely nothing to do with race, ethnicity, or skin-color.
