  • ah man so beautiful

  • i just checked out your band's spring tour tape. it was absolutely sublime.

  • awesome? what kind of e-guitar, and what pedals should I use for playing shoegaze?

  • God, this is beautiful...

  • I love you

  • Man, listen to this, then listen to Master and Commander sountrack - Doldrums.

Very similar sound... Would make a hella wild mix.

  • Long Live Ghost Box Orchestra! amazing show at psych fest!

  • this is farking beautiful....add some droning drums, bassline, lyrics n stare at the shoes and rock chill mode

  • Pedal setup pleeeeeease. This is the type of thing I need to spend my student loan on.

  • Sounding great! What pedal do you use for 'dirt'/distorton/fuzz, whatever :D

  • you can start a shoegaze band now

  • Heaven lighted by the hell flames...amazing

  • ..how did you do that omg ;n;

  • What's pedals are you using?

  • fantastic! i was thinking of combining shoegazing with grunge for my band.

  • I have a sound just like this with my setup.

  • @skegtheegg and what is your setup?

  • @skegtheegg Can I ask what your setup is?

  • buena, loco: cuanta cosa fria, desolada, desamparada, desasocegada, desvalida→preciosa cosa te has mandado.!!

  • ooooh !!! that s the best sound i ever heard!

  • what pedals are commonly used to make shit like this?

  • @tokyorose999 gotta have a line 6 dl4 in their. some fuzzzzzzzzz, a little bit of modulation, etc.

  • @madmax892006 yeah bro my guitarist got the dl4 its so nasty, all got is a little boss delay i saw some dude making some sweet stuff like this using just delay and reverb and ill check into the modulation , thanks for the tip man

  • @tokyorose999 i highly suggest you check out the Line 6 M9. it's all of their modelers: reverb, delay, modulation, distortion, filter. in one unit. with a 28 second looper. i'm currently buying one myself :)

  • @madmax892006 alright im going to check em out on ebay now <3

  • @tokyorose999 check out some of the youtube clips. the thing is mindblowing.

  • How do they do that? I want to learn to play like that 8(

  • will you please do a tutorial? i really love this!

  • Holy shit.

  • me and my friend are trying to start a shoe-gaze band where he plays electric and i play acoustic but its hard for us to find that sound.

  • Watch : Soda Stereo - En Remolinos

  • Hey man what effects do you have on that guitar because that sounds amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love this sound, so much, i would die if my guitar had those effects, i could do them too if i had them

  • It should be illegal to post videos like this without telling people your pedal setup in the description. AHHH.

  • @Polyfusia i total agree with you, fuck, i want this sound

  • @Polyfusia He had it there for a little while

  • which pedal do yo use?

  • It's funny...

That someone might come here and imply this is "noise"...

Just like some people go to a -insert mainstream genre of music here- video and state that it is shit.

Makes me think about how useless opinions are when it comes to something as powerful as music which is bound to each hearts interpretation...

Even so, it still amazed me that someone out there saw nothing but noise...

Then again, most people can't even handle music without lyrics.

Ah well, good thing I don't give a fuck

  • I don't care if for other people this is not music or "art". For me music, and art are things that makes you feel happy, relax and makes you forget about everything that is not the conection between you and your music, and for me the SHOEGAZE is the best music i've ever heard, so what the fuck with other people's opinion, let's hear this beautiful noises and let them listen "Music and Art" whatever it means to them.

  • Awesome I love it

  • Comment removed

  • gorgeous

  • Respond to this video... beautiful did that give anyone else a boner?

  • @angelfistbomb I think I jizzed my pants, actually.

  • Amazing how this shoegaze stuff reminds me of black metal types

  • Seriously guys, this is just as musical as anything else. Sure he's playing the guitar differently than other, more mainstream guitarists, but that doesn't mean he is a better or worse musician than them. Music is simply sound that is pleasing to the ear, and while your tastes may be different, and you may not find this good, that doesn't mean it is of any less musical value than anything else.

  • wat kind of guitar are you using?

  • this is top.

are you playing notes or just strumming?

this has given me the urge to purchase a telecaster alright.

  • He did all that only with the guitar, or was there a backing track or a guitar synth or a pedal(s) of some description?

  • Your´e pretty good!!!! Did you try the Alesis Midiverb?? It also creates those infinite sounds! Wanna start a postrockband =)???

  • Fuck yeah, that is the best wall-of-sound ever

What the hell are you running your guitar through, this is amazing

  • SO KICKASS!! Gotta wonder what all he's running it through...

  • wow amazing shoegazing dude keep it up!

a lot like My Bloody Valentine's Loveless album, awesome shoegaze album, classic

  • Wow I'm speechless. That was awesome!

  • I remember why I fell in love with shoegaze to begin with.

  • This is the type of music I want to make right here... psychedelic shoegaze with avant garde/80's pop

  • Really good!!

  • DUDE how do you get these effects, just delay and reverb or what?? PLEASE!

  • beautiful man

  • if you dig this, check out slowdive...

  • THis Sounds beautiful!..is anyone interested on create a Shoegaze band, y pkay keyboards:P

  • hey dude , i'm interested! i really like shoegaze music ,i play the guitar and i would like a keyboard . what do you think about?

  • Bands like Air Formation, Destroyalldreamers, the daysleepers..etc etc

  • I could listen to this for hours. Are there any bands that play stuff like this? Just guitar like this and maybe some drums and bass.

  • yeah there are bands that fit into a genre called shoegaze. Check out my bloody valentine, ride, fleeting joys, airiel, cocteau twins. there's more, but none come to mind right now.

  • @xyproper: also check out Robin Guthrie (former guitarist for Cocteau Twins), Slowdive, and Sianspheric. And if you like this kind of music, you might also like Lights Out Asia, Stars of the Lid, Eluvium, Phutureprimitive, Loscil, Bitcrush, Hammock, etc., etc., etc. These are not really shoegaze, but I like them for similar reasons. It's all beautiful music for sure.

  • @xyproper my bloody valentine, slowdrive just to name a few

  • @xyproper

Defenitely. Bands used this sound to create different moods. Chapterhouse makes you feel like you're in a dream, My Bloody Valentine makes you feel like you're on druggggs.

  • this is fucking awesome

  • just one strum on a shoegaze guitar and it sounds like your already tooken away to a mystical, ambiant land thats so beautiful that everything starts melting before your eyes and then your in infimite space floating from plante to star... and then you return back to earth and realize you just finished a my bloody valentine song

  • wat kind of gutar is he using?

  • @J0hnD031990

well from looking at the headstock it looks like a telecaster

  • i love shoegazing. it's like the beautiful weird bits of sonic youth songs but all the time.

  • Awesome. With a bit more distortion it would sound like My Bloody Valentine

  • EXCELLENT. no such thing as clean audio w/ true shoegaze ;)

  • @desertshore

thats not true, look at the engineering job on "loveless", clean sound, pure shoegaze :)

  • i think its nice....need a much longer video next time! with maybe a bit cleaner audio..

  • eventide h3000 ;))

  • nice.

  • I see after all this time you took down what you were using. Why is that?

  • Holy shit! Amazing.....

  • dude you should really tell us what you are using for pedals. We will give you one dollar.

  • Comment removed

  • try vox celeste by deerhunter

  • Thanks for the tip. Sounds amazing

  • @hushmoneyrocksquad i don't think POBPAT it's a shoegaze band.

They're more like, Jesus And Mary Chain + C86

  • sounds like there's a vibrato with a long delay and reverb on there with possibly some chorus. must be quite a decent amp too. Really nice chords though, seems to be in drop d which is why they sound so open. Why aren't there more bands out there who play this stuff??

  • yes please tell us¡¡¡

  • dude please let us know what effects you used.Sounds sooooo good

  • :O

I think I just died and ascended to heaven (in a good way)

And this is the soundtrack for that moment

  • so beautiful.... wow.

  • I like the one sound here but really its needs to chop upa bit a bit more like it at the end

  • yup, thats defo a shoegaze guitar

  • what effects pedals do you use? Your an amazing guitarist!

  • Holy grail reverb?

    reverse delay?

    sounds fucking fantastic.

  • A lot of it has to do with a certain feedback loop, with reverb. I can get a good Kevin Shields sound with a very simple rig, just because of the blend of two distortion pedals, a heavy reverb, and echo/delay. Sometimes tremolo too. It takes some experimentation. The digitech space stations are great for it. Ebows too.

  • What chords are you using here mate?

  • This is amazing. What's your full setup?

  • wowza

  • well done shoegazer

  • perfect

  • This is absolutely fantastic.

  • sounds great, very much like 'lsd and the search for god'. look them up.

  • You're my hero for exposing me to that band :-D

  • I FREAKING LOVE THEM

made my day back in 2007

  • how did you find them btw? its kinda hard to do

  • I think I found them on a music blog... downloaded it, but like you say it's impossible to find. If you want I'll message you the link :)

  • can you tell me what tuning do you have on your guitar?! This music makes me dream. Thank you!

  • This is defenitely the "Wall of sound"

    BTW, what pedal is that?

  • Super shifter and Boss DD-3 , also Ibanez TS

  • Ok thanks

  • I'm truly in love with this. Make another prease.

  • wow!, (love)

  • 1.20 onwards..... Mmmm, dreamy,

    Very impressive.

Feel bad for all the people who can't warm to it.

  • i absolutely loved it man, dont listen to the folk here.

  • any moron can simply solo on a scale, which is a template. what constitutes playing coherent melodies as music? how is that more musical then this? i dont mind solos and dont have a problem with coherent melodies just as much as i dont have a problem with loud incoherent noise. you dont have to like this, however you dont have to denounce this as not musical. and again, who in the world said a instrument should be played in a specific way? geez the world would be boring if everyone were like you

  • You said it well yourself, "There is something to strive for kids". That is making music no matter how "talented" you are, or how its perceived by people like you. Pepsipeople, continue making the true art that you make:)

  • How in the world is this "pure noise"?

Is it not in tune? Is it not constructed from musical notes?

I hate to break it to you, but he is playing his fucking instrument, whether he plays it to achieve the same sounds you do or not. The fact is, Satriani and Vaughn appeal to some people, but not to others.

I would never listen to either of those guitarists. They're boring. They're generic. Their work is meaningless to me; I cannot relate to it. This, I can.

  • Your comment is about 20 years too late, pal.

  • Very well said.

  • @ToyBoxMonster I like your perspective...philosophers and even scientists have argued about how to define music forever. I, for one, can't appreciate this at all. For me, this is "sound" and not "music."

Music needs melody. Its natural. Melody is naturally pleasing to the ear, whereas dissonance is naturally displeasing. Also, I appreciate technical ability. If a kid can buy an out of tune guitar, a reverb pedal and a delay and make lots of "sound" his first time out - so what.

  • @BullhornGuy Have you ever been to a noise show? This is pretty melodic to me... Listen to 1:33 and on. It makes me melt.

  • @ToyBoxMonster Yeah...I definately see what you're talking about at 1:33 and on. So much of it is how we're trained i think. Rare is the person who can get past ingrained biases. As an old school rock guy I am really trying to appreciate a lot of the post rock stuff.

Recently, a guy at a guitarists forum turned me on to God Speed You Black Emporer - good stuff!

  • @BullhornGuy chances are, this kid has actually been playing the guitar for a couple of years and can actually play more technical stuff, but he choses not to, why? Because he likes this sort of music.

Saying what can be music and what can't be music is like arguing what is art and what is not, anything can be art, take a look at Marcel Duchamp's work, The Fountain for example, most people just see it as a urinal tipped on it's side but others consider it art.

    Conclusion: Anything can be music

  • @HitmanJenkins1 Anything can be art or music? I know this isn't a political video, but I'll bet you believe in national healthcare and global warming too. Sorry, but I call BS! Is the sound of someone puking in your bed music? Why not...anything can be music. Is the design the puke makes on your sheets art? Why not...anything can be art. And if you say that those can be music/art just to preserve your argument - I call BS again!

  • @BullhornGuy actually i do believe in national healthcare, why? Because i have national healthcare, i'm from the UK you moron, i guess most Americans are too stupid to understand anything foreign, and you've just proven it, you ex-colonial.

Back to the music, you lack the comprehension to understand why people play this sort of music, your ears are not accustomed to these sounds, if you don't like this, then why are you hear saying stuff about it that's negative? Click away from the video.

  • @BullhornGuy You misunderstand. The claim is not that every sound is music, but that any sound can be music. I could loop the sound of someone puking. It's unlikely that anyone will find this particularly enjoyable or valuable. If, however, someone does, it's difficult to argue that that person cannot consider the loop to be music. While my take allows for subjective taste, yours implies an objective viewpoint, which raises the question of who's viewpoint should we accept as final, and why.

  • @ToyBoxMonster Well said, but I think I've sent him running with his tail between his legs seeing as he hasn't bothered to reply to me

  • @ToyBoxMonster Best words ever. So well said. You instantly gain all of my respect.

  • Jethronius22 is just a typical squarehead dad rocker type, there's plenty of them around.

    Bet he's a really interesting guy. :)

  • You kids are so cute when you are angry!

  • it's nice when people explain their opinions in depth. Encourages comments rather than a simple thumbs-down.

  • You can't be 'too shoegaze'. Listen at the holocaust section of MBV's You Made Me Realise when they play it live. 132 decibels of raw guitar in your face...but it's still shoegaze. Shields has to utilise a lot of effects to achieve that distinct wall of sound, which means he'll be looking down, resulting in the origin of the name of the genre itself. Therefore, if that is shoegaze, then this is also shoegaze.

  • Not really. The outrageously high volume levels have a purpose; they cause a certain "melted distortion" effect, whixh is key to MBV's dreamy, hazy sound guitar sound. Earplugs are recommended so that this effect can be enjoyed without danger of hearing loss. I actually know some ambient guitarists who rely almost exclusively on volume to achieve the textures they want out of their instrument.

I do agree, though, that volume for the sake of volume is just as bad as speed for the sake of speed.

  • Well said! MBV rule!

  • what exactly is shoegazing?

  • idk. but look up lazy eye by silversun pick ups. it's a shoegaze song.

  • the art of carefully looking at your shoes

  • fuck you.

  • nice dude. i am a shoegazing musician myself and this is spot on. you should do another video!

  • Angelic

  • Sometimes I put this video on and just lie down and fucking relax. Amazing.

  • But what chords? next to MBV you are, IMO the best shoegaze artist ever.

  • This is the Julian Swales sound from Kitchens of Distinction

  • absolutely beautiful.

  • Do you even listen to this genre of music? Because for some unknown shoegazer on youtube, this is pretty fucking good.

  • AWESOME!!

    fuck you haters!

    dont know shit about shoegaze

    WHAT ARE YOU USING?!!

  • Good stuff. Lovely sound. Those Boss Super Shifters are great, aren't they?

  • you are probably tired of this question but I gotta have that sound. Reminds me of Julian Swales from KOD. Can u reply via public or private e-mail on your exact setup, settings? R u running reverse reverb? Thanks Much

  • whats a tube screamer?

  • a guitar pedal

  • what reverb you use?

  • sounds a boss rv-3, a digital reverb with a delay function.

  • Don't reply to me dude, you've got 2 other people to worry about. I was done with you a month ago.

  • omg, so beautiful. like catherine wheel's first album....

  • Hi, I'd bought the Boss PS-5, can you tell me all of your effect setting? I like your sound very much.... Thanks mate.

  • is it the reverb that makes this so monumental like that?

  • Spector's "Wall of Sound" was produced by cramming every instrument and singer into one room and recording it in one go. He saved money that way.

  • For some Screwgaze music, go to myspace. com / spaceplanenj

  • Full of Win.

  • Sorry, you don't get it. Nice try.

  • You're joking dude, no one here agrees with you.

Not only does he have it but everyone here commenting likes it.

  • Everyone here likes it? That makes my point.

My advice to all of you who are conciously trying to produce "shoegaze":

Take two weeks off, then quit for good.

  • You're not making any point. It's not as if Shoegaze is this untouchable genre of music.

  • You're absolutely right, my mistake. It's just Rock 'n Roll. My Bloody Valentine and Lush should be lumped in together with Bill Haley and the Comets and Little Richard.

For that matter let's get rid of the term Heavy Metal and Pop, those don't exist either.

  • Leg 'er down n' smack 'em yak 'em. Cold got to be, you know? Shiiiit.

  • Why does every music snob insist that their favorite genre isn't REALLY a genre.

    I don't know how many times I've heard "Grunge isn't a genre", "Punk isn't a genre", etc.

    It IS a genre;
