RIP Rhodes!!!!! Great album, it's crazy how Sabbaths first live album 'Live Evil' came out around the same time with Dio singing many of the original Sabbath tracks written with/for Ozzy. Lotsa bitchin between the two bands Im sure!
I literally wore out 3 cassettes of this album. Played them until they were so thin that they broke. I was hoping that Brad Gillis would step in for Randy Rhodes after this ( NOBODY replaces Randy Rhodes). Quite disappointed when he stayed with that chick band Night Ranger. I think that Jake E Lee kinda got a bum rap, but the albums that he appeared on could not hold a candle to the Randy Rhodes albums, so he got the blame ( somewhat unfairly I I think.)
love sabbath but this album was superior as far as musicianship goes I agree Sarzo, and Rhodes played the shit out of these sabbath tunes...I have seen the original sabbath do these tunes and its not even close..
@tf2hat i think this album is better than tribute, like tommy says, he had tapes that blew this material away, randy would not have been proud tommy said, but tribute is good to, don't get me wrong, this was made to be live though, ozzy is sounding great on this
@tf2hat i think this album is better than tribute, like tommy says, he had tapes that blew this material away, randy would not have been proud tommy said, but tribute is good to, don't get me wrong, this was made to be live though, ozzy is sounding great on this
@tf2hat this album was never to be anything but sabbath material and was contracted out before rhoads died. and was a HUGE point of contention between randy and ozzy. randy never wanted to do it and almost left the band over it. rudy's book covers it well.
Brad Gillis is a fucking beast on this album. Say all you want about Night Ranger and bla bla bla. His slurring of the chords in here is f'ing sweet. His technique is flawless. On only a few parts on this entire album do you hear minor mistakes, which to the untrained ear would never be heard. Flawless renditions of some of the greatest songs of all time. CHEERS!!
this album cover is fucking NUTZ the picture is written in a different language the yellow part is actually cryptic writing although it looks like a frame it actually says something like thanks for dialing dial a demon production??? i can't remember
Taken from allmusic.com about this recording: "The show itself took on an ominous tone with a chair visibly propped up on the edge of the stage; upon it rested a spiral notebook containing the lyrics to all the Sabbath songs of the evening, from which Ozzy read throughout the show".
I was twelve years old & my mom gave me money for my birthday and said lets go to the store and buy whatever u want. I came out with my 2 very first cassettes ever & one of them was Dio's "Holy Diver" & the other was Ozzy's "Speak of the Devil." That Monday I was pretty popular @ school! That was 27 yrs ago this week. Thanks Ma /,,/
this album became an unkown for ozzy ,great album i wish there was a video of this concert at the ritz in new york, there is a live concert dvd of ozzy with brad gillis called speak of the devil but its a mixed song concert ,they dont play just sabbath songs like this concert
i am truly convinced that Tommy,Rudy and brad could not be beat.....kinda scary how good they meshed together after randy's demise in too the unknown. this album makes me proud to have come out of the 80 seen with my sanity in tacked. Keep on rockin and loud!!!
@paistiecrash Yep I agree. This band you're listening to is absolutely stellar. This is a case of the sum total being greater than it's parts. This is the finest moment of any Osbourne supporting band.
I saw black sabbath, reunion tour in 99 thunderbird stadium( only stop on tour with no beergarden), and ozzy said that geezer was going home one night and some skinheads jumped him, so they wrote a song for them, nice of em eh.
One of the top 10 best Black Sabbath songs, next to Planet Caravan, Behind the Wall of Sleep, Am I Going Insane (Radio), Wheels of Confusion, War Pigs and...
ozzy BRAD GILLIS, rudy sarzo, and tommy aldridge, and dont forget the midget of course! epic sabbath, great band hes got here i dont know why ozzy hates this album, i love it!
he hates this album, because, randy(best friend and guitarist) was dead and he don't want to do anything.. but he was in contract with some record company that he had to do an album.. so he did this album of sabbath cover songs in one night :) sorry for my bad english
@Egilutis i did know that, i just meant its pretty good so leave it alone for what it is ozz and keep sellin it! i know randy was his mate{best of} but this album f$*kin rocks kid!!!
senor Sarzo and mr gillis...cant forget tommy on drums,,bustin his ass..I havent heard anyone do the old sabbath better than this crew!!!! good stuff people!!!!!!!
@uburei also brad could not help himself using a sustainer cir uit for most of the songs on here, which i believe really help out the songs for his and ozzs benefit for these covers , yes a sustainer rocks with ozzys shit man!!1
I have to agree...i dont think ive heard another live album with such good sound quality...makes you feel like your right there in the audience...where was this recorded?..this was the first album I ever bought when I was 9 years..after that i was hooked on this heavy shit.
Its got some decent stuff on it...sound quality is not too bad i guess.I think it was recorded in madrid ,spain...but not a %100 sure..it came out after never say die but was actually recorded sometime between vol4 and sabbath bloody sabbath....i think the record company just tried to cash in on it...although its really a bootleg album. That reunion album in 98 was ok but not as good as this speak of the devil album....this album has all the classic stuff on it...not one weak song.
Every Sabbath cut on this album is just a little more intense than the original recordings. Brad Gillis' guitar tone and leads are mind blowing. I have heard there was some studio re-touching done to these live recordings, but I don't care it's still my favorite live album ever.
fuckin awesome.....never heard the sabbath version until after i heard this and this one is the best.......tony Iommi would and should be proud and so should brad gillis
