  • I was trying to import DiVX files into Vegas, but it kept coming up with an error.

After hours of searching, your video fixed the problem entirely! Cheers!

  • Thank you! Got this program when I first started with Sony Vegas 5 years back, laptop's hard drive recently broke down, loosing everything, and I couldn't remember the program's name. Looked for about a month and here it is. Cheers :D

  • This worked for me.

  • The 100% working codec for Sony Vegas 32/64 bit is

    Xvid-1.3.2

    Thumbs up if worked!

  • Thank you so much :*

i've searched for this problem so long and NOW i finally found a solution thank you.

  • Thank you so much!!!

  • or you need to configure xvid to decode divx

  • This works, but you also need the DIVX codec.

    Google it...

  • You can also just change the extension of your avi file to mpg and it works. Did for me anyhow.

  • nice tut! thanks for the info! helped out!

  • Thanx a lot! =)

  • WORKED !!! thanks!!

  • Retarded why Vegas doesn't do .avi

  • didn't work with sony vegas 9.0 and 10.0 >.<

  • Tks!! Work perfectly.

  • Didn't work for me.

  • I captured video with CamStudio in Xvid. I open the 4 cc changer but the description code is empty. Can set used codec to DIVX but none of the choices work in the description code. How can I use the benefits of Xvid in CamStudio and edit the result in Vegas? Thanks.

  • What do you do if the file already has the description code divx and the used codec dx50? Changing it around to follow this vid leaves the file unusable and needless to say, vegas won't import the video no matter what you do. Tried installing k-lite, divx and the xvid you linked to but no luck. Seems the xvid is for x32 though. What about us on x64?

    Thanks.

  • It didn't work and actually it f*cked up the original video file.. so beware and always try out with backups only.

  • @hapsutakki You can go back and change the FourCC to the original one and the file will be fine.

  • @NodTheBowler , for some reason FourCC insisted that the file is unaccessible/locked and I couldn't change it back anymore. I guess it's not a common error but it's better be safe than sorry.

  • For 64-BIT users download K-Lite Codec Pack 64-BIT!!! - solves around 90% problems with wideos not opened by Vegas

  • no point editing in xvid format video will be all choppy when editing. Better to convert it to avi with virtualdub.

  • wow thanks!! i don'tusually post but your tip is much appreciated.

  • OMFG ! OMFG ! I LOVE YOU ! MARRIED ME °° !

  • THANK YOU SOO MUCH <3

  • OMG OMG OMG!!!!!! THANK U SO MUCH!!!!!!!! WORKS WITH

Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10.0

    Windows 64-Bit

  • HOLY FUCKING SHIT!

    It worked!

DUDE YOU ARE A LIFE SAVIOUR! YOU SAVED MY PROJECT!

I spent a week Googling about that problem, Tried to use complicated alternatives and all and I was so frustrated that I went to search in YouTube and BAM!

Thanks a lot man, You deserve like a million thumbs up.

  • "None of the files dropped on Vegas pro could be opened." thats what I get, when I drag the video into SV?! I looked up with GSpot, and I got all the codecs, what do I need to do now?? thanks

  • it worked thx so much thank you thank you thank you

  • thank you. you help me a lot... -)))))

  • Thanks! Great work! : )

  • I HAVE TO DO THIS FOR EVERY VIDEO?. I FUCKING HATE MY CAMERA

  • Thank you so much!! :D Now I can start editing my archival footage!!

  • if it didnt work for you guys, use virtual dub to recompress it with DIVX or XVID using the DIVX fourCC.

  • I can't thank you enough, friend. You saved me hours of unnecessary aggravation.

  • It's work! I really, really thank you so much for this vid ! I've looking for something like that for so long, wrote post on Vegas forums about XVID AVI, and no one could explain me what to do ( beside: download XviD codec - I did but they obviously forget to mention about that tiny change :/ ) and you explain this problem in so simple way. Just thank you :)

  • Comment removed

  • @DanxRouge IGNORE MY FIRST POST. IT ACTUALLY FUCKING WORKS! You gotta exit that CC thingy first before it works! Thx alot mate!!!!!

  • @DanxRouge Glad I could help.

  • Thank you so much! :)

  • Thanks, iwas recoreding my dazzle in VDub and the xvid had best quality.

  • This is the easiest solution:

You need convert AVI files into WMV, MPG, MP4, MOV supported by Sony Vegas. AVI files are not supported. Trust me I have tried to look for all the little codecs. I have downloaded Xvid. Doesn't work for me and Im sure for some others. This is the easiest way.

  • @Blueshadow2772 Converting a feature length film could take a few hours, Even a day on computers with slower processors. Changing the FourCC will work in most cases if you have the correct codecs installed, And saves loads of time.

  • I agree though, if you are just editing a small project it's much easier to convert it to a wmv.

  • @Blueshadow2772

converting will just make them crap quality lol

  • Thank you so much for this, it helped a lot :)

  • Works great in SV Pro 9 Windows 7 32bit :)

    Thanks!

  • Didn't work. Mine is an avi Xvid. I tried to open it with the 4 CC Changer and it said "Could Not Open File!". This of course would not let me apply, and I can't get any further with my editing. Anybody have an answer?

  • Cheer dude, worked a treat! :)

  • for win 7 is one solution. you must download and instal codecs for 64 bit ( k-lite codec pack 64bit)

  • you got it right realmac1980! Tried everything for win7 x64 but your little codec pack wast the solution. thanks

    k-lite

  • where could I get that?

  • didnt work in vegas pro 9 x64 and windows 7 x64.

  • This does not work for all .avi video files that wont show in vegas.

  • @kourampioulis same here Vegas64 & win7x64, did not work

  • for those who cant get it working on windows7 64bit,you can try downloading ffdshow and Haali Matroska Splitter....install it and it should work

  • seems to be a prob for 64 bit vista and 7.

i have dual boot and divx works fine out of 32 bit xp vegas 9.

but no matter what i do, vegas 9 on 64 bit 7 will not happen, 64 bit vegas AND 32 bit vegas, divx is no good on 64 bit windows 7.BUT, divx will work on 64 bit windows 7 if encoded by the div x converter. strange hey?

from what i can gather, sony vegas wont render the audio to mp3 in a divx render, even though you can render an mp3 file on its own in vegas.

32 bit xp has no such problem.

  • This isn't working for me.I'm using song vegas pro 9.

  • Didn't work for me: win7 x64 + Vegas Pro 9c x64

  • It doesnt work for all .avi videos. Only Xvid/Divx videos.

  • @raydioz Same here

  • @raydioz Vegas x64 can't support x32 files like DIVX/XVID. It works perfectly in x32.

  • @raydioz same...have u fixed it?

  • @raydioz Yup didn't work for me :(

  • omg, this is awesomee, worked for me! THANK U SO MUCH <3

    sony vegas pro 8.0

  • thank you very much..

    i needed this ^^

  • Thanks a lot! btw, your voice reminds me of donnie from you suck at photohsop

  • lol, Never noticed that.

  • thank you dude i have been looking for this for long

  • Thank you so much!!! Worked for me, with Vegas 9.

  • I can't believe you solved this with something so simple! I was looking at re-encoding, which would've sucked up way too much time (and space). Worked really well for me, although one of the vids I wanted to change won't open in fourcc for some reason, even though it's XVID in a .avi file... Any idea why?

  • The codec they used is not compatible with the Xvid FourCC changer.

  • Oh well, worked for the others. =) Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. =)

  • the video appears,but no audio,HELP!!

  • this made my video turn black so it dousent work

  • doens't work on sony vegas 9 :(

  • if this don't work then you need install the DivX 6.8.5 Codec

  • some videos work but some other just have video but not sound :S

  • whenever i change the vid it just turns out black, the audio is still there tho. HELP PLEASE!!

  • is there a way to batch change the fourcc for multiple videos?

  • I dont think so, Atleast not with the program I used. You can search on google for "Batch FourCC Changer" though.

  • it doesn't work.. :(

  • ive been putting DX50 and i tryed DIVX in the top box and nothing i put works HELP ME PLEASE I ONLY HAVE A TRIAL AND NEED THIS VIDEO!!!

  • Mine just crashes when I import a Xvid/Divx file...

  • aaaaah i have a big problem!! i changed the avi files like in this viddie but when i import them into Sony there's only a red blank!!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • doesn't work

  • It works! Thanks!

  • you have no idea how happy i am right now... i've been trying so hard for days trying to use a file in vegas that had this problem... and i swear i tried everything else.... I was about to give up, sooo glad you posted this!

    thanks soooo much^^

  • this worked for me but I cannot edit i get bad lag when putting a crossfade on the video I am using sony vegas 7 any suggestions?

  • Great!

  • IT WORKED. Thank you so much!!!

  • You're a life saver. I was exporting video from Garry's Mod, a Source mod, and only DIVx and XVID seemed high enough in quality. DIVX had crappy audio sync, and XVID was obviously not working in vegas in any rendering mode above preview. Changing to DIVX has worked! Thanks! P.S. We don't need to have the DIVx codec to start out with, do we? I all ready have it, so I don't know.

  • Thank you so much! I've been tearing my hair out trying to find a way to load my Xvid clips into Vegas. It worked perfectly!

  • The new sony vegas 9 is already setup for divx, you dont have to change a thing.. well i didnt anyway :)

  • I don't know what my problem is but any video I try to drag to the timeline shows a circle with a slash through it... the mouse cursor changes to a circle with a slash I mean.. This is with Xvid or Divx.. It won't even load the audio : \

  • The only problem is that when i try to watch the video after changing the fourcc, is that vegas can barely play it and its all laggy, frame 1... frame 14... frame 26...

that makes it terribly hard to edit

  • you know how to fix a similar problem but to "render as" with mp3 and AC3?

it keeps giving me the infamous "An error occurred while creating the media file Untitled.avi

An error occurred while opening a codec "

  • Most shortest and most information gathered on very small space and works properlby thanks 5star

  • Thanks man it worked perfect ^_^

    5/5 stars from me

  • wow dude i followed this tutorial and umm my avi video wud import into vegas fine just with no video but now after ur lil vid here...it wont even import so im pretty pissed...

  • Solved my problems! Thanks man!

  • Works! Thanks!

  • asfter a few hours of searching, this got me on the right track. Problem was that my files have divx extensions and fourcc only recognises .avi. Solution was to change the extension to avi then open it in 4ccand change the format to DIVX then change the extension back to divx and bingo!

  • Yeah i tried this and it ruined my video. Great sound quality but replaced my video with flashes of colors. Oh well.

  • uh.,, can u help me?? I don't have xvid but divx,, and i cant find that fourcc thing :O....It's like so annoying that i only have soun, cuz i wanna get further with my AMV's

  • You need Xvid.

  • Yeah,, wel never mmind xD I got another (slow xD ) way,,, just render them in wwm and than they do work haha xD

  • on my vids all i have is picture not audio please help me

  • thanks man this is really helpful.

  • Hmm tried this, but still am getting only audio.. is there something else I am missing?

  • should both of the boxes be changed to divx?

  • i put my file into the fourcc changer and now the video wont play only the sound and vegas says the video cannot be opened the description code was h264 please help me!!!:D

  • This method will not work for H264 videos.

  • ahhh thats my problem....know anything i can do in this case?

  • Very useful. Thanks a lot!

  • thx:>

  • Okay, I had this problem a long time ago, and this solution fixed it.

Well, recently, I lost all of my .avi videos, and I had to re-download them. I re-downloaded them from the same site, and everything. But now when I got to change the FourCC, it says 'Could not open file!'

I don't know what is wrong with it, I have re-downloaded Xvid, Divx, and everything. And it worked perfectly fine a few months ago. Could you tell me what could possibly be the problem? Thanks

  • Nevermind, haha im stupid xD I forgot to uncheck 'Read Only'

    I feel really dumb now...

  • Superb Man Cheers

  • thanks for the video

  • kk that work but the video quility ots like the effect called gaussine blur thats 1 what the hell happen is it like that

  • is this codec safe?? It wont cause any viruses?

  • No, This codec is widely used and contains no viruses.

  • Thank yoooou sooooo much

  • thx... now i can't see video also in media players :/

  • Thank you thank you thank you. Regardless of what other people said, i had a ton of trouble locating info for this problem.

  • oh btw, RepublicCommandos & Komnene is the same guy, 2 diferent account lol.

  • Ok I figure it out, my bad...

I used Avi Fourcc Changer, wich is the same as Nic's ... when you look 4 the vid file, type DIVX in both boxes & press apply. It didn't worked before cus I confused XVID with DIVX, yes I read stuff backwards..but it really works!!!sound is perfect 2, thanx so much!. oh I have Vegas Pro

  • I dont think it works on SV-8 Pro. do you have pro?

  • Well FOR Me ONLY mY VIDEO APPEARS =[!!!!!

  • File C:\Documents and Settings\david\Bureaublad\vids\DBZ parts\goku VS vegeta.avi could not be opened.

    and i have change it

  • i have

    FourCC description code = MP42

    FourCC used codec = MP42

i want to change then i set

    FourCC description code = MP42

FourCC used codec = DIVX/Xvid (how to change)

  • thx man!

    N

  • it works.u are an amazing person thank u.

  • i got divx but i cant find dx50 thing when i change it so... :l

  • when i do that vegas doesnt accept the file anymore =(

  • Thank you soo much. I've contacted the Sony Company and everything just to try and import my files, and nothing worked. Thank you so much for helping with this, it made my day!

  • what a pleasant way to start a conversation..."wtf?" OH HOW VERY NICE!

learn to accept a little but of critical speech... and also, would you swear that much in real life? why do it on the web just because they can't tell you off??

  • Works for everyone else, You are just to stupid to follow simple instructions.

  • um no, its b/c i was useing the rong vs of divx anfd i dont even bother with it, btw ur a gay ass bitch

  • not just a gay ass but a vid idea pincher to lol

ive had my video out longer than all the other XviD into vegas videos :D

sad how peeps dont look to see if its been done before

    this shits old news

    even on youtube : /

try making a tutorial thats "not" already on youtube :D

  • oops make a copy fast

  • is this only for vegas 7?

  • Ah, now the converter is working but it still comes up as just audio in Sony Vegas. Ugh, how is it working for other people?

  • I tried it with two different files and it just says FourCC Code for *file name* has been set. I thought this would finally make it work but no v.v

  • Thanks man wont work in dvd architect tho

  • Oh wait. Its working now! Weird. thanks for the video!

  • I did this and applied it to an XviD file. Now the file won't play in any video player and won't allow itself to be dragged into vegas. :(

    Description: yv12

    Used Codec: DivX

    those are my settings ^

  • thank you man. really, lol.

  • gracias maestro :)

  • you are a golden god

  • It worked thanks so much!!

  • OMGGG, It didn't work at first too. But now it did. REMEMBER, you must close the "Nic's FourCC Changer" before import your movie to Vegas.

Nod i suggest you to add this point to the description.

  • nvm i cheered too soon, now the sound is gone and the video play at 2FPS in vegas

  • OMG Thanks this worked !

  • thanks it worked

  • THANKS IT WORKED

  • Alas, this program has not worked for me at all. :( I have tried several different .avi's from different sources, and I can't get any of them to import into Sony Vegas 8. :( Running Vista, if that makes a difference.

Any clues? I've tried nearly everything out there.

  • So nice,works great

    Thank yoh

  • dude you rock, seriously i spent the last like 4 weeks searching for how to do this. even went into random forums hoping for an answer not one had it

    Cheers

  • thanks so much!!!

  • thanks a lot, thank you :D

  • it does work, thanks a lot!!! 5 stars

  • Oh Shit !

It didn't work at first, but after a bit of messing around, it did.

The problem is so simple man, I'm serious no kidding.

After you hit apply it does do the changes, but it completes them when you close the "Nic's FourCC Changer".

Just try it, after you hit apply and then ok, close the program and try to import it.

LOL I started laughing to hard after I figured it out :D

  • OMG. I can't get it to work. I've been trying everything that everyone has recommended to try and get my files to work, but no matter what I do they won't. And I tried this, and now Vegas won't even import the audio. I'm absolutely at my wit's end, about to delete all my videos just to free up space on my hard drive, because this is so frustrating...

  • yea same with me, once i used the fourcc changer, it can't be imported into vegas

    help...

  • First of all, this really helped and im sure this will work once i get this question answered:

sony vegas won't import it once i applied it with the nic changer

  • Make sure the FourCC is DIVX all in caps.
