  • BACK TOO HIGH SCHOOL!!!! LOL

  • Been a long time. I haven't heard that song since I was little.

  • describes my ex wife and her family......lol....no 4real.

  • I was next door pickin' country music with my band CHEYENNE, over in GERMANY!!! LOL:)

  • OMG I have been looking for this song for 20 years!!!!!!!!! I remember hearing it on the radio in the mid 80's but haven't been able to find it since!

  • Southern Louisiana is mostly catholic...hence Mardi gras

  • The same guy who wrote "The Giving Tree" wrote this song.

  • @1963legion "marie laveau" is an old new orleans traditional also done by dr. hook and the medicine show

rearranged by shel silverstein. i got a record from the early fifties with trumpeter "papa" celestin and band doing their version of it. who originally wrote it i have no clue though, most probably written in the 20ies...

  • @1963legion i just found the "papa" celestin of new orleans version of "marie laveau" which i mentioned in my comment before on you tube. amazing what you can find here..........

  • I thought Louisianna was full of Baptists.....how do they like this song?

  • @prairiemark Apparently it is also full of catholics. Voodoo is sometimes referred to as "Louisiana Catholicism" because it grew from many African slaves blending their own religion into catholicism.

  • @moominpic Louisiana is Baptist Bible belt on the North and Cagin Catholic in the South. I am not sure the Priest would like the song or practices anymore than the Baptists Parsons.

  • @prairiemark Probably not, but apparently Catholicism has been a big influence on Voodoo.

  • ho dose poeple dislike this song

  • 3 people need to have a voodoo curse put on them. ;-)

  • one of the great signers of all time love he s music

  • Dr.hook made this song for me. no one will ever do it better then them

  • Best version of this song is the Charlie Daniels Volunteer Jam performance. Thinkin' it was one in the late 70's. Hard to find. This particular version seems sterile in comparison. There was an energy or "feel"... something that just cannot be described in the one I grew up listening to. Still happy it was here to see & listen to, though. Haven't heard it in quite a while.

  • i was 5 in 1979 first record i ever listen 2

  • I have had a lot of fun with this song, my name is Marie, so one halloween i dressed up in a witch outfir, and got me a black cat and went to a party with miy friends i have been called "Lavau" every since then. LOL

  • Christy get up and grab your mic gal and Sang it!!!! LOL!!!!

  • love this song.....we just change handsome Jack to handsome Jim!!!LOL

  • this is bailey. my mom caught me dancin' on the counter top to marie lavrau when i was 14. she wasn"nt mad. she turned me on to it

  • Good audio

    thanx...

    ...tom

  • Lolno

  • I dig this song, but it's not the real story about Marie LaVeau. She lived in New Orleans. She was a beautician and was a very urbane woman. Very powerful for a woman of color in those days.

  • this brings back so many memories.lol

  • This song is messed up..lol I never heard of it til i moved to LA of course

  • Great video

  • I love this clip, thanks for puttin it up

  • fantastyk

  • lol my dad always called my mom marie(her name is linda) i never knew why then he told me about this song

  • @martinracn06 LOL that is too funny

  • One of Bobby Bares best. Don't know if it's copy right infringement, but I took a line from the song in a song I wrote called "Angel in A 4X4". I struggled for a month to come up with a good line and this popped into my head while listening to this classic.

  • Lol my dad used to love this song

  • My husband and I had the opportunity to stand at the grave of Marie Laveau on a walking tour of New Orleans. Burials are above the ground in vaults in that part of Louisiana. There were all sorts of "offerings" on the ground around the grave and marks scratched in the soft stone and concrete walls of the tomb. Having grown up hearing this song, it was a real kick to visit her grave.

  • I do!! And I'm sure today she's come to visit me by a young african boy!

  • I've been there and done the same thing, jnvyoral. I paid my hoodoo, too!!!

  • @jnvyoral that had to been so freaking cool! Thats a good one! Kinda eerie!

  • I have always loved this song!

  • Awesome song. I just came across this song not to long ago, and let my kids listen to it, they thought this was about the funniest song they have heard in a while. I remeber listening to it as a kid. I still love it. I loved it 30 plus years ago.

  • Fantastic song, Happy 74th Birthday Mr Bobby Bare today, much love xoxox

stuff on satellite radio. Don't for get another

    Bobby Bare classic "The Winner"

  • These new country singers need to learn what REAL country music is about!!! I think they chunk these new ones out in a dang factory .

  • I think you are right!!!

  • Badass!

  • I love to listen to the "REAL" country music back in those days. These new singers don't have a clue what TRUE country music is . They are to busy trying to look pretty .

  • You're right roughwound, I'm 26 and HATE this new CRAP. The classic country era set the stage for REAL talent, I just wonder who did the screaming for this song other than the crowd. I LOVE THE CLASSICS!!

  • Love this song, but I love the history of the witch and the tour of her home.

  • fucking awesome

  • best song ever my grandpa can play it just liek this and sing just like him

  • yeah, it was as offensive to Marie Laveau as the last thing this man will hear one day......

    AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH.

    Another man done gone.

  • go see maries tomb..she was real...in St Louis Cemetery #1

  • I dont like how he called her a witch -rolls eyes- lol. i guess this song is interesting though. and that scream... geez. how disrespectful lol. this song is really disrespectful to Queen Marie. Entertaining though.

  • I like this song.....

    But its pretty old....

  • I was on a long drive back home when I heard this song for the first time... It's great.

  • He's still alive, I was gonna go see him on the Fourth of July this past summer at a casino in Wisconsin.

  • This one is nice too. But I am looking for a video of his song "A Dear John Letter" duet with Skeeter Davis. If you have please post it here! many thanks in advance. Jerry

  • He hasn't released an album since 2006 and isn't currently on tour, but is still alive unless he died very recently.

  • I think he died a few years ago

  • He's not dead, and he's still active, but he's not the hit-maker he once was. His son, Bobby Bare, Jr., is now in the business.

  • Is he dead?

  • enjoyed this! thanks:)

  • Great song! I used to make my dad sing this song to me when I was little! Good memories.

  • Bobby Rules!

  • Great song!! 5 stars!! Thanks for posting!!
