The Fragile is the best album of Nine Inch Nails, after, there's With Teeth, and after that there's everything else that this genius named Trent Reznor ever did.
@holographicplanet the theme is present throughout the entire album you know.... just listen to the baseline and you'll hear it through a lot of songs on the album
@SynesthesiaAddict All I could tell was that the repeated piano chords appear (differently) at the end of We're In This Together, and obviously the bassline is in Into the Void? What else is there that I haven't noticed? Just curious...
@somethingguy912 If you look at the description on the NinWiki, it explains that La Mer is the companion to Into The Void. So, yeah, there's a similar key.
@NM162 Nah, but I had a friend who was there and he told me about what Trent had said to the audience. It makes this song so much more beautiful and really inspiring to hear. But then again, all of Trent's music is inspiring and beautiful..
Reznor rented a house at a beach one summer, right by the ocean. He told people he was going there to work on an album, but really he was going to kill himself. But he didn't, and instead tried writing a song. And at the end of the summer, he left that place with a single song written down. Trent has said he is going to get married at that house, for how it changed him.
I've been a NIN / Reznor fan since '93. I apologize for not enjoying the song and saying there isn't shame in liking top 40 (There really isn't you know, to each their own etc) but, like.. hm.. a lot of top 40 the artists don't write themselves, they sing what is produced for them to sing. not since the 90s has popular media produced art like this.... NIN is perhaps one of the only bands i cherish/love that can be considered mainstream.... whats on the radio now that can touch your soul like NIN could?
I don't know what it is, but the out-of-tune piano adds something to this number. Perhaps like a sad clown playing a broken calliope or something. Adds a lot of emotion to it. Nice work, Trent.
i just asked for this CD for christmas....for the 3rd time..i played the first two copies out so much they scratched up to the point where they wont play
THIS IS THE BEST SONG OF ALL TIMES! Every time i listen to this, those notes, that voicE, that song touch my heart deep, and sometimes makes me cry. the melanchonic chord progression, the guitar drone, the jazzy drum! everything is perfect! the lyrics are a work of art! THAT SONG CHANGED MY LIFE
(and when i listened to it live... tears and happiness at the same time)
I really like this song, and I really like NIN. I showed this to a kid I know at school, and he didn't like it at all. Then guess what? He told me to listen to music like "I Gotta Feeling." He said that's good music. How come so many people these days only listen to pop music!?? Ugh...I can't stand it! NIN FTW!!
@olizelda Because that's all people hear anymore- on the radio, the tv-everywhere. i'll admit the black eye'd peas are OK, but compared to Nine Inch Nails, they dont EVEN compare. Nine inch nails made music that saved my life- lets see Will.I.Am and fergie do that :P
@olizelda Agreed, next person to tell me Lady Gaga is better than NIN is going to be answering to my foot for being an ignorant moron who fell into the over hyped music we call hip-hop, sure, it has a good beat and it sounds catchy, too bad you didn't know Lady Gaga also does Classical and that The Fragile Album is one of a kind even in this unique industry and Trent Reznor is a God for defying the Corporate big men to the very end and still conducting One of a Kind Masterpieces.
@VanAlio you cant say that she doesnt have talent though. have you ever heard her sing and play the piano? she is fantastic. you may not like her style, but you cant tell me that she isnt amazing at what she does. comparing her music to this is like comparing apples to oranges.
by the way, hip hop basically rap, dumbass. lady gaga does not rap :)
Et il est un jour arrivé Marteler le ciel Et marteler la mer Et la mer avait embrassé moi Et la délivré moi de ma caille Rien ne peut m'arrêter maintenant
I've listened to this album in whole and in pieces for the past 8 years and in that time no other album has had such an impact on me emotionally. Sure downward spiral is a great though this album leaves me speechless which is for the best I guess. I'll just put the album on repeat. My personal favorite song is "The Day The Whole World Went Away".
The grooviest and most accessible song you'll ever hear with a piano in the 3/4 time over a drum & bass pattern in 4/4. It's one thing to conceptualize a musically advanced idea like that, but it's another to create one that actually SOUNDS musically sensible. This genius was too good for big radio...they generally don't like to play songs that are structured expansively enough to actually allow the musical ideas to develop (god forbid). This takes me back to a much better time for music.
Downward Spiral was an epic album to describe what some of us can really go through in life, but The Fragile is a masterpiece and yes is way underrated, I fucking love this album, it takes my mind, body and soul to different dimensions like TOOL's Lateralus album takes me to parallel universes. And remember, these bands are all we have left to real fucking music these days, no one carries this kind of creativity, reactivity and sheer genious for creating the best music ever!!!!

oh man..... i got a hair up my ass and looked this song up. first time in 10 years ive heard it and it still makes me cry like a baby. call me emo i guess
I swear man, im 18 and i have to say trent reznor is one of the greatest muscians of all time. he creates music and sounds that just mindblows me. no one else has created what he creates.

Esta canción es alguna "versión" de Into the Void, porque me recuerda mucho a ella, sobre todo el principio

@VanAlio you cant say that she doesnt have talent though. have you ever heard her sing and play the piano? she is fantastic. you may not like her style, but you cant tell me that she isnt amazing at what she does. comparing her music to this is like comparing apples to oranges.
by the way, hip hop basically rap, dumbass. lady gaga does not rap :)
cha cha!

Et il est un jour arrivé
Marteler le ciel
Et marteler la mer
Et la mer avait embrassé moi
Et la délivré moi de ma caille
Rien ne peut m'arrêter maintenant

I've listened to this album in whole and in pieces for the past 8 years and in that time no other album has had such an impact on me emotionally. Sure downward spiral is a great though this album leaves me speechless which is for the best I guess. I'll just put the album on repeat. My personal favorite song is "The Day The Whole World Went Away".
Still one of the only albums I own on c.d.

This will forever be the song that makes me feel better about my grandmothers death... The lyrics are mind blowing and make me cry.

the song that saved Reznor's life?
Possibly. He was in a dark place. He wrote this while in that hut or whereever it was, almost suicidal.
He married Mariqueen there.
