Of course you need to know what you're book is about before you write it. All books are inspired by a solid idea about something specific not another book. Another book inspired you to keep writing of course but you're not just going to be like I'm writing a book but I don't know what it's about. Twilight was inspired by a dream/idea about a vampire and a girl, Harry Potter was inspired by the idea of a young wizard who is unaware of his powers and goes to wizarding school not nothing!
@PhantomZoner75 No, I pretty much just started writing and went with it as I went along. Granted, it didn't turn out to be a great story - but it got me writing and kept me writing and I think that's what's important to take away from these really old videos. I am no longer writing this story, not really by choice but because I cannot open the files and I really just needed to get away from that. But no, I had no idea what this novel would turn into when I started writing it. Just me.
@ILuvRobPattinson I'm really not trying to be mean. I just really think you need a solid foundation for a book to take off. Maybe you do have the talent you just need an idea to start with.
It's really cool to see people who are passionate about writing! Not enough people read or write these days- but it's a wonderful thing to be able to do. I don't really like Twilight, but I think it's great that it inspired you to write =) Good luck on your book
@edwardcullen2604 I'm actually no longer writing this one at the time being. I was writing it for a personal reason I didn't quite understand until something changed my life. With this said, I don't feel comfortable discussing it - and obviously I couldn't tell you too much anyway because of the bad idea-stealing people, if one happened across this video. Sorry - don't mean to sound rude. ~ILRP
That's cool, I'm working on a book as well, it's 91k words long so far and I'm stuck :( I've been writing it for a year. If I wasn't stuck now, it would be done.
@Zades158 Yeah, Writer's Block really sucks. And no matter how long you write for, it'll never complete go into remission. Which is a draw-back to the writing life. You're never totally free of the worry of it striking. But I think it's almost a test of faith to see how much you really love to write. Sometimes I just sit at my computer and say "I love writing. I love writing." overand over to remind myself. lol
Some unsolicited advice: I suggest expanding your reading before you further your writing. There's a lot beyond Twilight and if you read some of the more renowned and respected books you would see that (and don't attack me for saying this) Stephanie Myer's work is actually quite weak. It's important to be well read so you don't end up emulating your favorite book or author. You need to develop your own style, and learning from others is the best way to do it.
Jesus like we need another young love novel. Listen miss, you seem like a free spirit. Why do you conform to the mentality and sterotype of teenage girls? Rob Patterson and Twilight. Why don't you read and write other books. Sorry I'm on a tangent but its a little annoying.
So I'm a stereotype because I love Rob and Twilight? I read them before they were popular and I've loved Rob since they announced his role as Edward Cullen. Twilight truly changed my view on reading and writing, so why shouldn't I give them credit? And Robert Pattinson has inspired me in so many ways. I'm not a stereotype--I'm me.
congrats on writing a 90k book! that's crazy, mines only 65k and took me like 2 years to write lol i'm still editing it. hows the editing process going for you (if u started it)?
Thanks! And congrats to you as well! I'm doing revision and that's going okay. I'm changing a LOT so, it's kinda harder because I don't have things to look back on and see what I liked and what I didn't like--but I do have a clear picture in my mind, for the most part, what I want. How about you?
My novel is a romance/young adult/fantasy/ adventure hybrid...I've had issues determining the genre. lol. What about you?
I'm actually rewriting my book because I started it when I was a freshman and now I'm a senior, so I've grown since then and so has my writing. I read some scenes now and I cringe lol
My novel is a young adult novel, not really sure what sub genres it would categorize under though.
Oh, I know what you mean. I've only been writing for almost two years and I cringe at the stuff I wrote in the beginning. It's amazing how quickly writing styles change.
haha umm.. ok... ive been writting my book now for around 2 months..... its called chasing hearts.. i kinda cant be bothered to vid respond.. umm my book so far has only 2453 words.. no real meaning to this, kinda just want you to know why i was looking at your video.. not to criticize or any thing. just kinda wanted to talk to some other writter... lol. thankx 4 ur time, hope to hear from you
@randomguy4toph you should never put your book title for other people to hear. cause people can steal it make a book and call it the same name and publish it before you can. i dont steal names but im saying other people could. also i dont want to see another arthor get hurt cause of that.
A friend of mine that writes said the first million words were the hardest.

I appreciate the advice, but I have read a lot outside of Twilight--and Stephenie Meyer's works as well (there's only five...).
