considering that the gtr just has a 3.8 litre V6 and its quite heavy at 1800kg ( ie an extra 100kg for its 4wd system etc ) it is a remarkable achievement for a japanese car company considering the history and pedigree of the cars that its competing against.
19 years ago it was banned from the bathhurst race in australia by rule changes to suit the local cars because it embrassed the predominantely american v8 powered australian cars in that race.

This driver is the craziest bastard i've ever seen. There is a playstation 3 trophy in Gran Turismo 5 that you can get if you beat this lap time using this car, the 2007 GT-R, certain tires, and on arcade mode so you can't tune the car. It's a fucking video game and i can't get below 7:55. This guy has enormous balls
Nurburgring has too many Blind corners and has too many corners to remember , to get a good lap time at . Nobody can hit the perfect line each and every time . And for those who think I am full of it , Check the # of people that have died here . This track is Extremely difficult even for experts . I say get a track with a LOT less corners but still tough to race . Laguna Seca would be a great track for going head to head and would narrow the margins of driver error due to not getting their line.

This is not a stock GT-R, this one has probably semi-slicks under it and an optimised Motor setup and for sure not a standard exhaust. Several brands including Audi, Porsche tested a stock GT-R, fastest time they achieved are around 7:58
A standard GT-R will not trash a R8 or a GT3, but nice video though

@whactya Because the modern auto gearboxes do rev matching (among other things) on the downshifting. Cannot be bothered to google it now but I am sure this car must even have a dual-clutch setup.

This car is one of the best cars ever produced. First of all it will beat cars like the Porshce Cerrera GT and the McLaren Mercedes SLR round a track. So to bash one car would be the same as bashing the other car makers whose cars have records on the Nordschelife. It's those records and other things that make Nordschelife the true Nurburgring. So if you bash other cars, you're bashing the car you like and the Nordschelife. Nissan and the others did a great job on the Nordschelife.
So it's a record. Bit boring to watch, wasn/t it? Did Nissan spend all their money on hiring an empty track? Where are the outside shots? I think it jumped the Flugplatz and made dogs breakfast of the Karussell, guess Suzuki San was at 11/10ths there. Seen much, much slower times, but more interesting with shots of the tacho, the driver, his hands and feet. Yeah, it looked downhill all the way. Took me 20 minutes in a 323 Bimmer, 1980. In traffic. @corvette4554 If you look at the ZR1 record run, the timing is the same... starts before the first corner and ends immediately after the last. Probably because that stretch of track is speed-restricted sometimes and excluding it from the lap keeps the times a bit more consistent amongst other tests...

@esrmafia Thermodynamically the turbo is automatically more efficient than a supercharger. That wouldn't explain the time difference though. Weather, driver and even humidity would do it, even for the exact same car.
They ran the GTR around the ring again in Oct 2010, and it posted a 7:24.22 on a semi-wet track. Thats almost identical to what the Porsche 911 GT2 RS posted in perfect conditions. I'm guessing the Nissan can do it in the 7:18 region in good conditions. Move over Porsche you got beat by a Datsun for half the price.

All industry timed laps are times to the same points so that entry and exit to the pits are not timed. This includes the new Lexus LFA lap of 7:14.
Tourist laps are timed completely differently are are referred to as Bridge to Gantry (B2G) times.

This car is one of the best cars ever produced. First of all it will beat cars like the Porshce Cerrera GT and the McLaren Mercedes SLR round a track. But Second of all it will seat four people were other supercars dont. And third of all its priced like a nissan at only £60'000. This is a SUPERCAR that is realiable and you ca use it everyday.

@SikhGugz This is an awesome car but it doesn't seat 4 people - I thought it did also but when i went to check it out at the dealership the back seat turned out to be a formality - they just put it in to lower insurance rates. Only a baby's car seat could possibly fit in the back.

Why are people hating on American cars? The new Boss 302 kicked the asses of the M3 and R8 on the Laguna Seca track. I mean, honestly. I drive an import, and I LOVE Audis, BMWs, Porsches, Nissans, and the likes. But you have to give credit where it's due. And even the Viper holds 7th place for track times at Nurburgring, where the GT-R holds 9th. Don't get me wrong, I <3 the new GT-R. But like I said, cars are cars. Quit bitching about who's faster.

that was in the 60's pal with the gt40 Ford thats a long time go , since than nothing, and US had an advantage that they had all their factories unharmed while 70% of Europe was bombed to the ground, so its not suprising that only 20some years after WWII the Ford won

Hey, I'm a GT5 fan and a fan of the true Nurburgring, which is the Nordschelife. Each of those cars deserve to have their record in their own right. So to bash one car would be the same as bashing the other car makers whose cars have records on the Nordschelife. It's those records and other things that make Nordschelife the true Nurburgring. So if you bash other cars, you're bashing the car you like and the Nordschelife. Nissan and the others did a great job on the Nordschelife.

So it's a record. Bit boring to watch, wasn/t it? Did Nissan spend all their money on hiring an empty track? Where are the outside shots? I think it jumped the Flugplatz and made dogs breakfast of the Karussell, guess Suzuki San was at 11/10ths there. Seen much, much slower times, but more interesting with shots of the tacho, the driver, his hands and feet. Yeah, it looked downhill all the way. Took me 20 minutes in a 323 Bimmer, 1980. In traffic. Keep bitching.

@corvette4554 If you look at the ZR1 record run, the timing is the same... starts before the first corner and ends immediately after the last. Probably because that stretch of track is speed-restricted sometimes and excluding it from the lap keeps the times a bit more consistent amongst other tests...

@esrmafia Thermodynamically the turbo is automatically more efficient than a supercharger. That wouldn't explain the time difference though. Weather, driver and even humidity would do it, even for the exact same car.

corvette zr1 have 638hp and did 7min:26sec lap on nuburgring!!
what happened? 158hp more than GT-R and only 3sec less than GT-R!!
that means quad screw supercharger didn't have the same efficiency than twin turbo

They ran the GTR around the ring again in Oct 2010, and it posted a 7:24.22 on a semi-wet track. Thats almost identical to what the Porsche 911 GT2 RS posted in perfect conditions. I'm guessing the Nissan can do it in the 7:18 region in good conditions. Move over Porsche you got beat by a Datsun for half the price.
