  • i have more than 3 so i know what to do it is very esey so no problom i do it and my mom my frist when i was 10 - 12 not sure

  • Lol, well at the very least you have a nurse who you can have fun with! Take care!

  • Hi there, I had a PICC line in my arm for 10 weeks for a bad infection that almost cost me my foot. Do you have to live with the PICC line forever or was it a treatment.

Also- for people out there who are concerned about getting a PICC please don't be. It's a scary concept (and you have to adjust to the idea) but giving yourself antibiotics or other intravenous fluids is not bad.

Best of luck to everyone who needs a PICC line!

  • @cskarulis I had mine in for 19 months with little to no issue. my wife learned to do all of the dressing changes and infusions. i did have some bad reactions to skin prep and chloraprep but really nothing major considering how long i had it in. we did have to replace the line about 1/2 way though, it got a clot. (easy fix.) no signs of sepsis or infection. it really does depend on what type of line you have and the doctor that places the line.

  • @cskarulis i recently swapped out the picc line for a power port a cath. it is much more convenient for me since we're not dosing as much and again my wife learned to accesses it, so we can do it at home. the port i can keep in for the rest of my life, it has to be flushed once monthly but much better than the every day picc. for my case the picc was a good fit at first but my needs changed and a port became better.

  • @peterpauliepan - Thank you for sharing your story with everyone. It is very helpful. I am glad that your wife was able to tend to the picc and now the power port. Home nursing care is not a lot of fun, especially when you are 28 :) Best of luck to you!

  • @cskarulis thankfully my lyme doctor is happy to educated patients and allow them to learn and do their own care from home. the major issue is that my insurance wouldn't cover home care...so we really had no choice. i don't think home care is really fun at any age, or atleast i imagine it wouldn't be. best wishes :-)

  • Hi -

I do research on home IV care and other forms of high-tech home care. Your video is the best I've seen on living with a picc line and IV therapy. Can I embed it in my blog on the topic?

  • If you do so, please make sure to link to my page.

  • I also have Lyme. I haven't started treatment but I think I have decided against the PICC. It's freakin scary!!!! I hope my doctor doesn't want me to do it. I hope you get better soon.

  • they really aren't that bad, if you have to do IV antibiotics. they are a lot safer than getting a port put in. just depends on what your doctor thinks your protocol should be and if you actually need to do IV. it's made a difference for me, so it's been well worth it. the picc line was a bit scary at first, but i did my research and knew what it would be like to get it put in and in daily life.

  • Well I am glad it is working for you.

  • I had one of those lines in and it nearly killed me. It rubbed against my heart and made the rhythm go out of wack.

I hope you didn't have it in too long.

  • Hey thank you for making this i am getting a line tommrow i know exactly what your going thru it hurts but once its over then its better feel better and stay healthy!!!!!

  • there are a lot of informative videos on here about them. it's really not that bad, quite an easy and quick procedure. best of luck at healing.

  • Thanks i go for mine at one! ur a strong kid! bye

  • oh man! that really sucks! at least now things are moving in the right direction, eh?

  • it will hopefully, with time.

  • 2 and a half hours my ass! i'm sorry it took so long babe, we'll figure out a way to make it quicker. i think it will be better as time goes on. love you!!!

  • sorry it took so long....i'll adjust and i'm sure it will only get faster with time. my guess was it was closer to 4, including set up/clean up. as soon as we add more abx, the days will be filled with long infusions. atleast once we get a stable time you'll know what you can do while i'm stuck to the wall.

  • i look forward to it. i'll hang you an extra hook.

  • I hope you feel better in the near future

  • thankfully, the bad feelings come and go. this isn't as traumatic as i'm sure it appears. thanks for the well wishes though.

  • Thanks for posting. guess what? i am getting a picc line tommrow i know what ur feelin kiddo *if you are a kid lol) hang in adn do u want to be friends>

  • thank you.

  • ops. I forgot a C...

    picc

  • WOW. I am so sorry you're going through so much. How long do you have to keep the pic line in. Or the pig line.. Great attitude.

  • right now we're looking at 6 months of IV treatment, this is an estimate, so could be longer or shorter. overall, it's not too much of a hassle...but as me again in 6mos. i'm sure i'll be ready for it to come out by then.

  • ok seriously how bad did it hurt whan they put that in?? hope you feel better in the near future xoxo

  • the only pain i felt was at the beginning when they stuck me with lidocane, which numbed my entire arm. so, not too painful, the entire procedure lasted maybe 5mins.

  • lucky or that would have been agony, if you dont mind me asking how did they put the thingy into your heart?

  • try to make a response on that.

  • Howdy Blossom, poor you babe i hope you get better soon is your illness cureable or not? can you let me know with info please thanks Lots of hugs kisses love god bless you both Gizmo xox
