2 Cor 13:5 has nothing to do with whether a person has eternal life or not by somehow "testing" the kind of faith. Faith is faith. A person gets everlasting life by 1 act of belief in Jesus as the granter and guarantor of everlasting life as taught in the Gospel of John (which is inspired and inerrant). See John 3:16, 5:24, 6:47, 11:25-27 and 20:31. The "test" in 2 Cor. is test of fellowship, not test of whether a person is born again. The remedy is good works (verse 7). Read the context.
@dreiher2 I invite you to look into what was said and what you believe you are arguing with. It seems you are trying to argue against something that may not actually be there.
The whole video is talking about testing whether or not faith is saving or not. The faith that believes 2+2=4 or that George Washington was the first president, is exactly the same kind of faith that saves. There is no such thing as supernatural or "gift" of faith. If a person believes in Jesus for everlasting life, then they have it. That is because they believe in the correct object. It has nothing to do with the quality of the faith. Faith is faith, period.
@dreiher2 Well then I would ask you "who is the originator and completer of faith?"heb 12:2
did you create faith in yourself? Eph 2:8
Are you saying that while you were dead (entirely unable and unwilling to turn) that then all of a sudden you decided you will do a holy work of obediently being submissive to Christ's will? My bible tells me that when I was still dead, Christ brought me to him, giving me a desire, making me born again, desiring his will. Solus Cristus.
@reformedman well said my brother. I always did believe that only God could of saved me. But the pressure of main-stream teaching left me confused, telling me I must of responded to the call, therefore I had something to do with my salvation. But Eph 1:13 cleared up that lie: "In whom ye also trusted, "AFTER" that ye heard the word of truth...." It was all of God, He sent the word of truth which brought me to Christ. AMEN BROTHER
"Only a fool is ready to give himself the benefit of the doubt in an issue so momentous as this!"
Good stuff!
Paul says: "EXAMINE yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; TEST yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail THE TEST?
Martin Luther correctly taught that everyone believes something, but not everyone is saved. Why? Because it is not THAT a person believes, but it is ONLY WHAT a person believes that saves! It is ONLY the OBJECT of faith that justifies, NEVER the ACT of faith. The ONLY OBJECT that can justify is the Gospel of Jesus Christ--the Gospel in its proper saving sense! Notice A.W. Pink never defined the Gospel in this passage. Pink was wrong.
Hello friend, Pink was not wrong. I only read one chapter of the book SAVING FAITH. In the other chapters he ofcourse touches upon all the aspects of faith. Pink didn't say anything incorrect in the chapter and he didn't leave anything out. Pink is not wrong.
To say that "the object saves" is far too naive, because, if this "faith" does not bring up fruit it is dead and not saving at all. This is what Pink is teaching and stressing.
Proclaiming is not it - living it out, die to self, carrying the cross...
Pink is calling out to any of us: Are you saved from your sin and from sinning?
Glory to GOD this is right on!
