I have one of the 42000 books that you signed. And I read it. And it was awesome. Thank you for sacrificing the well being of your hand for my education/entertainment.
@AsbelTheSoporific Are you sure your copy wasn't one of the other 108,000? (I'm not saying it's not but I was thinking the EXACT same thing. And then I started to wonder.) Also, I agree.
@CharleyHayes08 Yeah, pretty true (for me especially), considering Chameleon Circuit the only sucessful Trock band. Actually, I think Chameleon Circuit is the only, period.
So, I don't know how to put this gently, but, perhaps finding a good tailor would be a good move? That shirt just does not fit you correctly and it makes me sad. :(
@BJMCM11 It was constructive criticism. Also, why did you call me a vain fuck, if you're only angry because you can't see me to pick holes in my appearance as a reprimand?
@BJMCM11 Vanity is superficiality in excess. I just said the guy's shirt doesn't fit, there's nothing overly superficial or vain about that. I'm a tailor, it's what I do.
Thinking my comment was less valid because you couldn't see me: now that's vain.
As for the rest of your reply, well you're just repeating exactly what I said.
@lilDgoes2mars Why does clothes fitting matter? Well, why aesthetics matter is kind of a complicated question..but it matters to me because I'm a tailor. I make clothes fit well for a living.
Why does the definition of vanity matter? Well, it really doesn't, but you know, someone was wrong on the Internet and i was on a long train journey.
@proof2580 Oh, I wasn't commenting about the vanity conversation. I was commenting about your first comment about clothes-fitting.
Think about it. John probably knows his shirt doesn't fit. But why does it matter? He vlogs because he wants to share parts of his life with his fans. And, I'm sorry, but you kind of took advantage of that. I am glad that you told him about his shirt politely, though.
It's not vastly improving anyone's life, so why say it at all?
John, I've graduated last month and I have been trying to find employment for the past week. I am in a foreign country, a very expensive bus, train, and plane ride from the comfort of my family, and since last month, I've been waking up with the feeling of CMAPT in my stomach. I've always been stubbornly independent, so thank you for helping me realise that I may need an Ilene in my life. And thanks for saying it gets better. I'll be working on making it get better faster.
OH MY GOD CHAMELEON CIRCIUT. God, I'm never getting a good job. I don't have talent besides talking and memorizing useless facts. For example, Matt Smith was in a play called That Face and in one sceen, he had to wear a dress.

@lostfeeshes so sorry it's so hard! that moment suckd for me too. but it doesn't last forever. Hey there John and Hank and people of the interwebs!
I'm a new Nerdfighter from Britain and have jsut started on YouTube and I am just trying to publicise my videos at the mo. Could you guys thumb this comment and be totally awesome!
7 months into this two years..... does it peak sometime and get better toward the end of the two years or is two years the peak when it starts to get better?
@scharfy for me, it was 2 years and then I was really ready to make aggressive decisions, like move out of Pomona, and that's when things started to get better: after I made these really drastic moves that totally changed everything... took 2 years for me to get the guts... that's my story, anyway
Hello there NerdFighteria, we are some Australian nerd fighters and we wish to spread awesome. Though we do not have many viewers. We are Vlogbrother approved (They subbed to us), so you can trust that we are good. It would mean a great deal to us if you came and checked out our channel. Thank you and DFTBA
I saw Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children at the bookstore the other day, on sale and as a noted book of 2011, picked it up, and thought "why is this familiar?" and walked away without giving it another thought. I mean, I was there to buy TFIOS, not other more peculiar books. NOW I KNOW.
This video came out almost immediately after I entered college. I'm like, "Really? I just got used to this, and now I have to worry about being an adult?"
wow my first 2 years after college were also horrible! I felt abandoned and actually betrayed- all the people who supported me up till then suddenly pulled all their support away: instd of being a good student, I was an unemployed looser- hard to deal with- But yes things did/do get better, after those 2 years I built up the guts to move to another country, get a newspaper gig, move back and get a degree, and now have a great job- I didn't have an ilene but now i think i can be one :)
Instead of this rambling diatribe and monologue why don't you tell people that college is a joke and now Uncle Sam has the implied interest to see that you go to college so you are in debt to him and him only, since your Savior Owebama took over the student loan industry. That would be more interesting than this garbage.
I'm starting my sophomore year of university (weird semester setup because of DC classes), and this both helps and terrifies me... I kind of know what I want to do next, but it's all math-science type stuff... I've dreamed of being an author since I was six. Here's hoping I can find an Ilene that can get me from here to there and help me break the CMAPT that will be life after school.
So I will be graduating in May. But honestly it feels to me like a grown up job versus my irregularly scheduled near 40 hours a week at Starbucks on top of college courses and studying will be so much better that I'm not at all worried about the crushing monotony. And the idea of having regular time after work where I'm free to choose my time management and write and play Kingdom Hearts sounds awesome. Is this a bad thing?
This is probably already in the comments many pages back, but has anyone considered that "An Angel in my Pocket" is one of the very few titles that both makes sense and does NOT work as a joke with "in my pants" added to the end? Well . . . kinda . . .
i first watched this before i discovered alex day or charlie mcdonnell or liam dryden and didnt understand the time lord rock thing, but now i find it hilarious!
This video came on to youtube 2 days after I moved out of home to get my first job after graduation. I wish I'd seen it a lot sooner, because it would have made me feel a lot better about the whole terrifying real world thing.
I just noticed I havnt read a book in like 5 months! stupid new school with a boring library like all of the books are freaking 6th grade level. last time I checked I had an 11th grade reading level! Imma read your book! it looks cool! (middle school sucks)
When I first saw this I was well aware of how monotonous and terrorizing the world could be. Not that I'd experienced it but that adult had told me enough about it I could recite it in several different accents and two languages. This video basically taught me that I'd be screwed if I didn't somehow find a person willing enough to deal with my ignorance. Which was a little disheartening until my brother found his Ilene by complete chance. Tl:dr, finding someone to follow isn't particularly easy
This video always makes me feel better. I just graduated college for graphic design, and I work in a call center. I have a sign I made on my desk "DFTBA, the CMAPT will be over someday"
@amorithelnania HEY! YOU GRADUATED COLLEGE WITH GRAPHIC DESIGN! *sorry for yelling :P) but I want to go to college majoring in Graphic design (I'm a freshman in high school at the moment) but could you give me any advice?
@amorithelnania This is almost unbelievable. Right here, me: graphic designer, worked in call center, had DFTBA on my work desk. Oh, yeah, and this video makes me feel better as well.
@DaniaSyberian ok i just responded to the top comment with this, but i saw you and i was like WTF MATE? ANOTHER ME!? because i studied graphic design and worked in a call center after college.... O_o
@amorithelnania ......I worked for a call center after I graduated from college with a graphic design (and photography) degree........GET OUT OF MY BRAIIIIIIN!
I'm still in school. This is my first year of GCSE. And it's pretty "CMAPT" too. The Crushing monotonomy of travelling 14 miles everyday to and from school, giving me barely any free time from homework, sleeping, eating, etc. And the paralysing terror of not passing my exams that will determine my life, pretty much. YouTube is what gets me through though. Seriously.
@CustardStig GCSEs are really not THAT important. Once you move on to A Levels, no-one cares what your GCSEs were. Revise, but don't kill yourself over it :)
@CustardStig Oh yeah, I think you said that John should give some money to Bribry and I agreed. I don't know whether I have a really good memory or you just have a very memorable username :)
I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this, but did the severely cramped hand after signing 42000 books remind anyone else of the Seinfeld episode where he has to sign all those royalty checks?
Hmm, I wasn't underemployed, but I had to work at a really rough and very poorly disciplined high school for three years. This year, I finally got to move back to my Alma Mater, a much happier and more unironically enthusiastic place. So even though I don't make any more money this year, I feel like I was promoted.
Also, John's description of his first book (which I have read) could totally also describe the book *I'm* writing...in spite of the fact that they don't reeeeeally have that much in common. The kissing happens on page one in my book, for example.
@rainbowchakra90 It's okay! I just wasn't ready for an Ilene yet. It's also possible I was looking for an Ilene in the wrong line of work, since I was trying to be a playwright then, and now I'm starting to think that I make more sense as a novelist. A playwright who lives on my street says that's because writing plays is for old people. So maybe I'll still do it later? (He's not that old.)
Good thing I am staying in graduate school forever. I do have an Ilene, though, and it's everyone in the musicology department at FSU. These people make my life possible. Hoping to one day pass it on.
no need to be afraid, NO ONE has it figured it out! The best advice someone gave me,get a job,and work till you figure out what you want to do with your life, and you'll earn some money, and you'll discover what you like/don't like- then go after that-Like John Lennon said,"Life is what happens to you, while you're busy making other plans"...good luck!
I actually graduate from occupational therapy school soon. I'm definitely trying to meet some healthcare Ilenes. Hopefully one of those took care of your wrist for you. Thanks for the insight!
The word "homosexual" is more appropriate and accurate than the word "gay".
A person does not need religion, hatred or any kind of phobia in order to acknowledge important, qualitative differences between heterosexual attraction / behavior / marriage / adoption and homosexual attraction / behavior / marriage / adoption.
Homosexual activists, with support from the media, have succeeded at framing themselves as noble victims and martyrs; it's an effective way to push a social agenda.
I wanna read Ransom's book so badly, but I can't get it from the library, I'm low on cash and my local book store recently suffered flooding. :( *sigh* I simply have to wait.

I just began reading looking for alaska on my kindle. It is, no lie, one of the greatest books in history.

*sorry for yelling :P) but I want to go to college majoring in Graphic design (I'm a freshman in high school at the moment) but could you give me any advice?
cvs2901 1 month ago
@amorithelnania This is almost unbelievable. Right here, me: graphic designer, worked in call center, had DFTBA on my work desk. Oh, yeah, and this video makes me feel better as well.

Currently treading the waters of crushing monotony and paralyzing terror. This is such great motivation. Now to find an Ilene..

Watching this and listening to Chameleon Circut at the same time? I'd say this night is a winner.

Seriously.
CustardStig 4 months ago in playlist More videos from vlogbrothers
@CustardStig GCSEs are really not THAT important. Once you move on to A Levels, no-one cares what your GCSEs were. Revise, but don't kill yourself over it :)

@HannahIsUnoriginal That's assuring. Also, I think I recognise your name from somewhere else on YT... Hmm....
CustardStig 3 months ago
@CustardStig Oh yeah, I think you said that John should give some money to Bribry and I agreed. I don't know whether I have a really good memory or you just have a very memorable username :)

@HannahIsUnoriginal That was it! BriBry! Well done on your memoritory skills. That should be a word....

I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this, but did the severely cramped hand after signing 42000 books remind anyone else of the Seinfeld episode where he has to sign all those royalty checks?

Wow! I love that advice! "find someone who is doing what you want to do but better, and listen to them". I need that on a shirt or something now.
maarakailet1 5 months ago
Hmm, I wasn't underemployed, but I had to work at a really rough and very poorly disciplined high school for three years. This year, I finally got to move back to my Alma Mater, a much happier and more unironically enthusiastic place. So even though I don't make any more money this year, I feel like I was promoted.

John, you were *totally* my Ilene.

With all the boxes behind John it makes me nervous that he's taking time to make a video when there are SO many pages to sign!

It's probably not the time to say I was just a little disappointed in "Looking for Alaska"... but Katherines was awesome!
FlamboyantSisters 5 months ago
Also, John's description of his first book (which I have read) could totally also describe the book *I'm* writing...in spite of the fact that they don't reeeeeally have that much in common. The kissing happens on page one in my book, for example.

rainbowchakra90 5 months ago
