  • Charlie "Doc" Thomas made a mockery of the reputation and vocal greatness that was The Drifters by pretending to be the lead voice on several Drifters hit tunes ... and his personality sucked as well! Doc just didn't sing well enough to lead on most Drifters tunes ....

  • :50 seconds Hooray!

  • Not even close to most of the Pittsburgh shows...

  • do you have the full performance?

  • HELLO, THANK YOU FOR A REAL TREAT,TOM D. BRICK,NJ. {AT THE SHORE}.

  • @doowopman49 "Down the shore"

  • Absolutely LOVE the Volumes! Bring back doo-wop!

  • Thanks for these GREAT Memories!!

Ant it funny how times sure slips away!!

All we have now is the memories with these great songs, Still love them today

  • i love Doo Wop

  • Great medley. Salute!

  • They all sound good to me,rock on guys

  • I worked with Bill and his Drifters group in the 70s many times. Bill and I shared the same love of classic cars. When I saw Bill on that famous PBS special, it was not the same voice, he didn't even talk the same. Bill has several vids on You Tube one is with Gene Chandler where they did White Christmas. Great vid, if you can find it

  • The Drifters started with Bill Pinckney, now deceased. A few years ago, they performed for a PBS special and all FOUR of the lead singers over the years appeared together. It was the MOST awwesome special ever! Sadly, Bill Pinckney passed on a few weeks later.

  • Doo-Wop NEVER DIES!!!

  • What a great posting! So many memories! So many good times!

    DooWop rules the music scene.

  • The Volumes ?!?!? Is this the ORIGINAL line up ? I didn't even know they were still around !

  • sorry, but Ben E king was not with the original drifters..the name had been bought, and a new group used the name

  • One of the three on that show (Ron Tyus) was actually the songwriter, but did not sing on the record. Not sure about the third.

  • groups names are bought up by individuals and corporations...then the find other groups to sing under those names...How many times do you ever see clyde Mcphatter and the original Drifters..never its always a Ben e king drifters, or even worse, under the boardwalk Drifters

  • Clyde McPhatter died in 1972. Ben E. King, Charlie Thomas, and Bobby Hendricks (with the original Drifters in 1958) are all that's left. The British group lost its only original member (Johnny Moore) 11 years ago. Any other Drifters group is phony.

  • those are NOT the Marcels

  • Not sure but I think there was one other original alive when Doo-Wop Love songs was filmed which was a little over 2 years ago,If I remember right. Every live show I've seen for the last couple years has this configeration for the group. They still perform out of Cincinatti,Ohio. They perform quite often at C.O.D.A. events.

  • I went to this show, and as all Ultimate Doo-Wop Shows it was fantastic. The Drifters sat on a plane on a runway for 12 hours to get there. And... love The Edsels,The Volumes,ShadesOf Blue,&The Vogues...and all the other groups. BASSMANDELUX

  • That was Ritchie Johnston the only member of The Students still alive. He originally sang Bass, but now sings the lead in the current form. BASSMANDELUX

  • I believe that Dorsey Porter is still alive. He sang on Doo Wop Love Songs along with Richie and Johnny Ross (not an original -v but he sang with them early on in NY).

The current group is Richie and two women who sing in the Ohio, Indy, Kentucky area doing oldies.
