true. just dont like why people compare every thing that is slightly psych to floyd or the doors, i dont mind floyd at all, dont think they were good enough to be some sort of benchmark tho
This is a tribute to the song "oh yea" by Can by the sounds of it, and of course to Damo Suzuki. But this comment states the obvious.
I think alot of what people call Post-Punk is more like Post-Kraut, but New Wave is too much of a vague description that encoporates too many types of music. Post-Punk isn't ideal either but I think it works a little bit better. Or maybe I should skrap the pretentious bullshit and just say that this is a very good song.
CAN invented the 'new wave' ten years before the new wave and this song is a tribute to them by a great band which knows the Story. I love Can, The Fall and new wave.
they didn't "invent" it but a lot of new wave/post punk bands were influenced by them. john lydon tried to become their singer at one point without realizing they were breaking up. the original line-up of public image ltd was directly modeled after can's. and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

In my school's jazz band, the singer is asian. we have an inside joke where I ask him "who's damo suzuki?" and he replies "I AM"

Just stumbled upon another Krautrock band from this era: Sand Album: Golem
Check out the song: Old Loggerhead
Also a big fan of the mighty Fall and Can.
jackdejong 1 year ago
@jackdejong That is the greatest 'krautrock' lp ever,it's rare as hell and almost totally unknown but an utter masterpiece-especially 'Sarah'.

@nath909 why mention floyd? can and fall was no where pop. floyd was, millions of beter psych bands before the old mainstream floyd

Don't be such a fucking snob. Floyd were supreme at what they did.
Though I'd agree that this owes next to nothing to Floyd. The Fall are not far off the anti-Floyd. But there is room for both in the universe.

It sounds more like total annoyance than like a tribute to me. But perhaps the intellectuals know better.

@NeoDjang I think the genre New Wave works just fine.
Oh, and yes, this is a very good song.

please don't ever place 'new wave' next to krautrock or suggest they are connected. krautrock is timeless, a lot of new wave is utter shit.

can isnt new wave. theyre krautrock. this song is a terrible inbred version of their song "oh yeah". just different words.
georgecolon 2 years ago
@georgecolon
The song elves is a reworking of I Wanna Be Your Dog, inbred and deranged tributes is what the Fall goes for.
halfcabdisaster7 2 years ago
you know, now that you mention it i can totally respect this. theres a lot of bands that do crazy inbred versions of sick songs. i am sorry.

kraut rock is basically new wave with german wailing. =D
thewall1179 1 year ago
i think that german wailing is called progressive rock.

Ehh. Saying Can invented new wave is a bit like saying victorian era composers invented radio pop, it's a bit insulting
