One player missing that really sticks out. Fred Cox. When he retired I believe he was #1 in scoring (maybe behind Groza) and hit some clutch shots. I'd rate him above Longwell. Yes I know Longwell most likely has a higher % of successful kicks but kicking has changed from back then. Cox spent his whole career in Minnesota.
@DBJetsman Warren Moon at 40th? Dude, come on, Moon's got to be top 15.....is it cuz he was really an Oiler and didn't play along time for the Vikings?
You don't put someone as one of the top 40 players in franchise history because their top ONE year was "not that bad". Let's start a new video called "Top 40 Vikings who weren't bad for one year". Then I won't debate with you.
I googled Walker's stats. Are you sure you googled them? Or did you gaga them? He played 42 games. Averaged 54 yards per game. Averaged less than a touchdown every OTHER game. He brought us famine and gave the Cowboys a feast. His best years were with the Generals and Cowboys. He isn't in the Cowgirls ring of honor, why would want him on the Vikes top 40 of all time? I might rate him in the top 500, that would be it!
@KingBing8 1991: 825 yards rushing yards and 10 TDs. Come on, he's not that bad. The only reason he didn't put up more numbers was because the coaches wouldn't play him enough.
@KingBing8 Walker was and is a classy guy, but really he was a bust in the NFL...... he was special for the Georgia Bulldogs, but you're right top 500 maybe, lol.
Matt Blair should be in the top 15 - he made the pro bowl 6 straight years and was among the best linebackers playing in late 70's/early 80's, if not the best.
Any list that Foreman isn't top 5 means you never saw the old Vikings. Walker on the list at all is an insult . Cox was one of main players of the 70's Vikings. No Peterson? A list like this is hard to do, granted. But it is obvious that you never saw the old Purple People eaters play, just read about them. You had Steve Jordan over Chuck Foreman!!!!!! At least you gave it a shot.
Not Cris Carter noooooooo. The greatest Viking of them all was Chuck Foreman. No one meant more to a team than did he. Few teams relied as heavily on one player, as the Vikings did on him. Just head and shoulders above everyone else.
yeah, uhhhh... one bad season for AP. big woop. he did what chuck foreman had to take 7 years to do in 3 years of his career. plus i dont think longwell should be on the list, my opinion
Look, I realize lists like this are impossible, and people will always disagree, but really - Jake Reed ahead of Matt Blair? Bill Brown and Robert Smith but no Tommy Mason (who was the second best running back in the entire league for several years, behind only Jim Brown)? Chuck Foreman 15th instead of second? And - re Herschel Walker - you say "Google Herschel Walker's stats" - I say, there are lies, damn lies and statistics.
All I can really say is that (i know this was posted this past summer) Adrian Peterson is really good now that he doesn't fumble, and that Moss should be moved up. When he and Carter were together, you had to be very good to stop the passing game.
@crankenstyne I did put Keith Millard sir. And google Herschel Walker's stats! He was good with the Vikes. And Cox only had 1 Pro Bowl! Longwell has numerous records while Cox only has a couple.
You guys are totally forgetting the best, most iconic kicker in Vikings history. Anderson will be best remembered as a Pittsburgh Steeler, not as a Viking (the almost perfect season notwithstanding.) Longwell was a Packer and is therefore disqualified. Fred Cox is the starting kicker on the Viking All-Star team.
This list isn't bad. I might change the order a little bit, but other than Cox, you have all the truly significant players here.
I think the best is Tarkenton... and when it is all said and done with Peterson's career, he will either take 2nd or be good enough to be 1st. Peterson could be one of the best NFL players ever when he is done, let alone greatest Vikings, especially considering he has fixed his fumbling problem.
I'd put Brad Johnson, Adrian Peterson, Jared Allen, Percy Harvin, Sidney Rice, Henry Thomas Shiancoe, Andrew Glover, Kleinsasser Orlando Thomas, Mitch Berger or Faud Reveiz, on this list before Warren Moon. Also Gary Anderson, not Ryan Longwell.
Yea, Gary Anderson way above Longwell. Nothing against Longwell, he is probably the most talented kicker we have ever had, but he has not done enough legendary stuff with us yet. Gary on the other hand, he symbolizes everything there is about being a Vikings, the good and the bad.
Nice job, you'll get tons of discussions here. It would depend on what criteria one uses to make a determination.
Personally, the greatest Viking of them all is head and shoulders above all: Chuck Foreman.!! No one single player, meant more to the Vikings than he during his first 5 years. The others you mention, especially the last 10 or so, where great in their own right. Joe Kapp and Jim Marshall are also way up near the top.
You can go back and forth all day, and Page is certainly up there. Granted he had a host of great players alongside on those great Vikings defensive teams. Page didn't stick out as much as Foreman. Yet he played longer and at the highest level. Just hard to say.
In the years they played together how would the team suffer morer..... without Page or without Foreman.??
So let me get this straight... You have Steve Jordan over Randy Moss??? You dont include Jim Marshall or Gary Larsen then you have the nutsack to put Herschal Walker on the list? Come on son update this video and put Kevin Williams, Jared Allen, Antoine Winfield, and AP on here
@DBJetsman he has yet to Fumble this season. and a lot of the all time great running backs have fumbled a lot. Franco Harris. Hall of Famer. Fumbled 11 times in one season. I think Adrian Peterson keeps doing what he's doing, excluding the Fumbles, he'll be the first Vikings Running back to be in the Hall of Fame.
@DBJetsman Doesnt fucking matter ur stupid to not put AP, Jared Allen, antoine winfield, Kevin Willams, or Darron sharper, do u even know what "NFL" means... Damn!
@DBJetsman 1 fumble this whole year...and look at the great runningbacks Tiki barber eric dickerson etc. ya well they all had fumbiling problems too...just saying
There's a lot of great players there. I don't even know where to begin but I have to say the rankings are not even close (overall) to what I would vote. I mean Robert Smith at 19? Randy Moss at 16? Really? Steve Jordan ranked higher than Moss? Nope.

Other than Walker, it was a great list, I would agree with most placements. Brought back a lot of memories from the glory (-Super Bowls) days!

Alright, I F***ed up putting Walker on the list, but just because one out of forty players is bad, dosen't mean the whole list sucks.
