My bike is now equipeed with 6.2g's of fuel. It has also had extensive suspension work done to it since this video. I now have 11.5" of suspension front and rear. My bike eats KLR's for appetizers. But then again, there is the price issue.
What's the difference between the bikes? I am in the process of getting a GS, but I wonder if I should go for the Dakar for some extra off-road capabilities. Or is the real difference small between the two?
In this video there is a GS and a Dakar. However, the GS has had over $4000 in suspension and other mods done to it, and ultimately it has the same suspension set up as the bikes that race the Paris/Lisbon to Dakar Race. Between the two, and for the money, the Dakar is the way to go for out of the box offroad fun. Although they weigh in at about 390 lbs, you can shed weight fast down to 350-355 lbs. By adding a Supertrapp pipe you can get an additional 3-4 noticeable hp.
The real differnece between a stock GS and a Dakar is 2" in supsension travel. Other than that, out of the box, they are identical. However, and in this case, length seems to be everything. Because the two inches of additonal travel is night and day. I'd always spring for the added travel.
The song is called "Things That Scare Me" by Neko Case off of the Blacklisted album. There's some nice riding in Germany also. How about the forest between Dresden and the Czech border. Hell while you're up there hit some of those roadside whore houses just over the border on the downhill slide into Czesky Krumlov.
Mine only hits the street to get to the dirt. But I do like to get as much riding as possible, so I never trailer anywhere and just load the backpack on the tail. No panniers or farkles to weigh me down.
We shot this beginning in the Mojave Desert in a little ghost town called Ballarat, on a ride through Mengel's pass to death Valley. I used a helmet cam that I bought from Oregon Scientific for $130. This was shot on the middle setting and you get about 5 hours of filming at that rate. It can be much finer, but you only get about 1 hour.
I wish the BMW had a bigger tank, the Kawasaki has a 6 but no ABS but is 4000 dollars cheaper?

Yes, we did and Jim dug up another body. I am aware that you know him, so I don't need to explain what he did with it.

It's nice to see someone else riding a Dakar like they were meant to be ridden, instead of just around town...Nice video!
