  • could you please make a video of actually doing the training please?

  • @TBBhorsegirl I am actually working on it at this time. It will be a step by step video showing both a finished horse and one learning it for the first time. We had to take a break as the demo horse I was filming had to go take time off from training for other reasons.

  • @reiningtrainer omfg i have a pony that looks exactly like that! is it a mare? 1 blue eye? 12.2?

  • @ponypals101 No it is a gelding, not sure on height, but somewhere around 13hh and I do not remember if he had a blue eye. It wasn't my horse and I did this work a few years ago. But, he was a bit of a spit fire and had a lot to say about his training. That I remember well.

  • this horse is short O.O lol but I could see how little kids riding may benefit from this.

  • @horseloverforever131 yes, this is just the highlights. I am working on a lesson video that will be longer and more in depth. If you are meaning for kids to get on, I would invest in a mounting block as repeated bowing could sore the horse up especially on the knee.

  • @reiningtrainer Yeah, I just like teaching mine different things because we bond better :) and yeah, I mean like for kids but not constantly, like you have stated, it would wear their knees out

  • @horseloverforever131 yes, Yes, YES! The more time we spend teaching our horses the stronger the bond! "for in caring for a thing we start loving it." - author unknown

  • ReiningTrainer: To teach them to bow are you tapping with the crop Then lifting with the string to get the foot up? Then tapping at the shoulder and lifting? I didn't see that you were tapping AND lifting but the horse was lifting his foot. When you get on, do you tap his shoulder with your foot and then pull a string attached to his foot? I have tried a couple of horses to go down but never from the saddle and never with no string on the foot. Can you help with some suggestions? THANKS.

  • @gcoxalaska There are many steps to the exercise. 1. I teach them to lift the foot to the tap with the bat. 2. then to keep the foot up. 3. lean back and touch the knee to the ground. 4. pick up foot, hold it up, lean back and bow. 5. teach the cue I want ie. tap the shoulder and by now not using the rope. 6. stay bowing until I ask you to get up.

  • @gcoxalaska From the saddle going into the bow you have to reteach the whole lesson, although it should not take as long. and you may need help, but yes I tap the shoulder.

  • @jewels5192 From your question I am understanding you are keeping her leg up as I do, but her head is in the way. Release her with every rock back of her body that takes the knee toward the ground and using a halter or snaffle bit bridle, keep her head bent away from you so it goes to the outside of the leg she is stretching forward. Normally they will not put their head down that far when they lean the lesson. I do video reviews if you like, just contact me via email.

  • @jewels5192 it is hard to comment without seeing what your horse is doing. It can be a very tedious task getting the knee to the ground the first time. Some horses get cranky others lock up when they get confused so without seeing the reaction I cannot be sure what to tell you.

  • this isnt great he is showing us a horse bowing but not exactly HOW to train your horse to bow!!! :/

  • @xXxRaNDoMfulxXx You are correct...I am still working on a video lesson for this 'trick' using other horses as well and it will become a part of my library not a freebee.

  • @reiningtrainer P.S. that is why it says Hghlights : )

  • my mini horse can bow!

  • @candymeadowalmondjoy That's great!

  • @candymeadowalmondjoy aww! i bet thats cute! i luv mini's!!! hehe

  • This is great!! i have been trying to teach my horse how to bow for a few days now.. its not going the best! When even itry and get her to do this, she puts her head down but i cant get her knee o nthe ground. Please help!! thanks,

    Hannah

  • @barrelhorserider7 You should take her head more to the side at first until she touches her knee down. So if you are on her left side keep her nose to her right.

  • how do you get the horse to bow i have a rope aroung her leg and she does little jumps lol but she wont go down

  • @15moonlight I have a full article on how to teach the bow on my website. You need to look for the slightest lean backward and try not to back her so far that she tries to back up. Look for less and praise her. There is a point where some horses will get stuck here even after leaning back, just ask her to go forward when you see she is thinking about hopping and look for the slightest lean back to praise her for.

  • How do you train your horse to do this,i wanna teach my mare, but i wanna do it the right way,

  • @SillyFreckles you can find a detailed article on Ezine under Jodi Wilson. Feel free to contact me with any questions you have on the article at my email address. You can also visit my blog.

  • But its so small how could she not get back on grome the ground XDXD Haha cute i wanna teach mine how to bow :)

  • @xXeMokiDXxMCRXx - easy answer, she was much shorter than me and rode with the stirrups shorter as well. Bad knees made it painful for her to straighten her knee when getting on from the ground : ) This way she could just step into the stirrup and swing over : )

  • @xXeMokiDXxMCRXx You can go to my blog and I wrote a step by step lesson on bowing. TrainingHorsesBlog

  • @xXeMokiDXxMCRXx sorry, my step by step instructions are on Ezine under Jodi Wilson, "Teach Your Horse To Bow."
