This is where I grew up, Wish I hadn't taken it for granted so much, having, done well, but living in Cleveland all these years. I make it back home sometimes but my innocence is long gone.

ahhhh.....Home sweethome! Had to move away for a job and I miss it so much!! Moving back next year though! OH I cant wait!! You never know what ya got till its gone!! Florida is to flat, hot, and humid for me!! I love my cool mountain air!!!!
Cool!I didn't know Virginia had the blue ridge Mountains.I thought it was the Appalanchain Plateau Mountains.I live in Virginia but not where the mountains are.
Beautiful! Thanks for suggesting I come over to watch! I live only 15 miles from the Virginia line, but I live closer to the Northern Shenandoah Valley than I do the Blue Ridge. There are still plenty of dairy farms in the northwestern part of the state, tho. You'd feel right at home, I'm sure!
He is singing about the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina (Caroline), which is where I live. Doc Watson grew up about 20 minutes from my house.I actually have a herd of Black Angus we keep for beef, but the land doesn't lend itself to farming on a large scale, as the ground is too rocky. It's great for Christmas trees and cows though!

Virginian's definition of a "mountain" sounds kinda funny to a kid from Idaho. But they're still beautiful. :)

Just back from "Blue Ridge mountains" Virginia.
We were there just for holidays and we fell in love.....with the "Blue Ridge mountains" of Virginia.
In that holiday we have bought a big plot in the forest to build a house. That is how beautiful the "Blue Ridge" is.
Oh, I forgot, We live beautifully in Spain (Europe) at the coast of the blue Med......but we are leaving for the "Blue Ridge mountains" of Virginia.
Nice people too.

Sounds idyllic ! Good luck in VA :)

Just saying something is beautiful needs further explication:
Nature is beautiful
Animal life abundant
Hunting and Fishing: perfect
Free arms sale
Hardly any crime
Perfect&Clean country roads and highways
People very friendly (if you are white...).
Very conservative (Bible Belt) and this is probably the reason you hardly see any African-American in these rural areas.
At this moment there is much land for sale with meadows for cows. You cannot have grains growing as the deer will eat it.

NC? I am guessing yes i live bout 45 mins from you

oh never mind you do live in North Carolina srry
donovanwiseman 4 years ago
Doc Watson didn't write this tune, Cliff Ness did in 1924. The "Caroline" reference is to his home in Caroline County in Virginia.
utoobia 2 years ago
@sweetbriargirl EXACTLY! I'm from western Wilkes County by the way and I know where he lives as well.

Scratching gravel is walking on a gravel road and a grip is a suitcase you'll be holding for a while. :)

Thanks so much for answering my question :)
Must have VERY homesick if he walked on gravel all way back to VA while holding a heavy suitcase !!

WoW! Nice video. I wonder why barns there are not red. I know why we the treditional barn color is red here. I like your music and pictures.
ronnieboy2rdot 4 years ago
Why are they red ?
NCN1970 4 years ago
Hey Ronnie, Why are WI barns painted red?
holsteincowboy 4 years ago
When the German settlers moved here the availability of red paint was about all they had when building a structure as large as a barn.
ronnieboy2rdot 4 years ago
One of our barns is white, but we have another that is red.
