i like these as well. you can begin to get a sense of what the pedal does when you can consistently compare them. He uses the same guitar the same licks with every pedal, through that you get a picture of what the box is doing to the instrument. I use my pedals with an electric banjo. nothing he plays do i like... he wouldn't like my stuff. That isn't the point. The point is to hear what the equipment can and does do. don't like the tunes? don't buy the album. keep 'em coming. thanks.

hey i need a distortion pedal that has a good sounding distortion and sustain. my crappy solid state has cheap sounding distortion that sounds like a midi distortion effect. it sounds really digital and fake and not much sustain. If i put my amp on clean and use this as distortion will it work good?

@andrewvanrhoberts It should work fine. There are a lot better distortion pedals out there. Just depends how much you want to spend. Try proguitarshop for much better demos. OD pedals won't work as well with a SS amp as they will with a tube amp but, with most distortion pedals it doesn't matter

@MusicMan44144 If your into Red Hot Chili Peppers, this pedal (DS-2) Is your best shot, because John Frusciante him self uses it, and its also good for classic rock.. However, the Boss MD-2 and the MT-2 (Metal Zone) are great for metal and rock 'n roll.. I own the MT-2, DS-2, and MD-2 and I prefer the MT-2 (metal zone) but that's just my taste. Hope I helped!

@toDan421 Steve Vai and Satriani both have ds-1's on their board. What I didn't know until a friend of mine told me was that they all modify theirs. None of the boss pedals sound extraordinarily good out of the box.

@1616starbuck I totally agree. In fact, the Saturator is in essence (in sound, not circuitry) a modified DS1. the DS1 is an excellent platform for an experienced modder to start with, but for out of the box, you are usaully going to find it very brittle sounding.
