6 hrs a day?! Good lord, how do you find the time? I just started up again since high school, been about 7 years... I practice about an hour a day. I guess I should really step up my game!! Trying to learn fiddle styles.
Keep it up, Mike. Sounds great as usual. One of these days I'll bring my old 3/4 fiddle over and see if you can saw a good tune out of it. I can't! (Been mentioning that for a long time!) - a neighbor from down the road a mile.
How awesome! I think my brother took some lessons from Mike Bryant. My brother and I posted some lessons featuring how to play Old-Timey Appalachian style fiddling on my channel. we just posted Candy Girl in AEAE tuning and are gonna post a bunch more too. The sheet music and full lesson is at FiddlinMike. com. Gotta keep true old-timey fiddling alive!
A lovely sound here. Mike has clearly mastered his instrument & genre. What I particularly like here is the close-up shots of Mike playing & working his instrument. The close-ups ably demonstrate just why so much practice is needed to get it right. Like all masters of their craft, Mike puts out a sound which seems 'easy' to achieve .. but of course which is really only ever reached after long, long time & effort input, in order to secure this elite level of skill & mastery. Great posting !!
Mike Bryant is not only one of the best old time fiddlers around, he is also one of the nicest fellows I have ever had the plesure of meeting. Sadly I haven't seen him in awhile. Awesome video Mike, your playing is incredible as always.
How can some people do this? I can't even play the violin that well. I wish I can learn fiddling because it seems to be a joyful music to produce. So I have to start playing 6 hours a day huh? I'll try. Thanks for the inspiration.
Just make it fun! There is no wrong way really, i know there is technique and form but just have fun with it. I tried to take violin lessons and become bored with the one note here and there. Just find some people and meet up somewhere in a country jam, and you will get better. It worked for me. I've been playing for 4yrs
I'm Mikes baby brother Kenny from Georgia,Never heard him play the fiddle untill I saw this on youtube.Miles have seperated us my dear brother, but seeing this video brought loving tears to my eyes."NEVER STOP PLAYING "the music that brings such Joy to your heart......I love you my big brother.
What he says at 3:20 to 3:45 is so so true.. It grabs you and makes you sit up and notice that sound. It almost takes you to a different time.. Almost as familiar to you as the crackle in that fire behind him.

Hardly "ancient" music. Hurts my ears.

the difference between classical and this music is, the rawer the better. a fiddler needs a harsh dominating tone.
