I don't think this song was about Waters specifically. Could have been, but doubtful. It doesn't fit the tonality of the album in that context. To say this was a direct slap in the face to Roger would be like calling Gilmour a 4 year old. "I thought of you, and the years of all the sadness, fell away from me. Doesn't sould much like their then strained relationship. Since losing Richard, they have come to peace with each other. How sad. RIP Richard. You are sorely missed.
@forgedby2112 The first verse is about Syd, the second about Waters. This has been confirmed by David's wife Polly. For those who know the history of Pink Floyd, it is quite obvious, but it is still nice to have confirmation ;) The line towards the end about "I thought of you" is about Syd, as he goes on to say "and did you know: I never thought that youd lose that light in your eyes", which has been described by many as what happened to Syd (not the least by Waters as "black holes in the sky")

@smoknjester probly a seperate take shoved in, or he could have just turned his volume up on the guitar, which with a chandler tube driver will dirty it up a bit more.
And now my age is 23 and still I listen to them ..Some times when I listen there songs I fill that I am beyound the horizone..I really cant explain that what I fill when I listen to there music but what ever I fill its awesome its like always reverberating the past days from the cemetary of my soul...........Sir David thanks for ur great notes and the music I will never ever forget u and ur music......till the last sun rise of my life...............Samir from DARJEELING (INDIA)
Yes this people are right coz I also fill the same way....I mean I came to this world and I was really unknown with music but when I reached the age of 15 I found this band and I found that the music of this band is so Perfect and unique........When I heard the pink floyds songs I filt that I got a new life again....and yes if some day I will die then I will saythat there is no regreatesfor dyin coz I have already leaved my life listening to pink floyds songs...
David did wirte a piec about Waters leaving called 'Peace Be With You'. I think it was meant for Momentary Lapse but it didn't make the final cut (Lol, get it? final cut?)
Two things happened yesterday: I discovered this song and I discovered I'm gonna be a first-time grandpa (In that order). Either way, I can taste forever from here and it tastes remarkably fabulous. I'm glad I lived long enough to experience both. If I died tomorrow, I'd be happy.
I think if the whole world listened to this album as much as I have, the world would be a better place!

@forgedby2112 on the same album, in the song "Lost for Words," there's a direct knock on Roger.

The rain fell slow, down on all the roofs of uncertainty
I thought of you and the years and all the sadness fell away from me
And did you know...
I never thought that you'd lose that light in your eyes

Did you know...it was all going to go so wrong for you
And did you see it was all going to be so right for me
Why did we tell you then
You were always the golden boy then
And that you'd never lose that light in your eyes
Hey you...did you ever realise what you'd become
And did you see that it wasn't only me you were running from
Did you know all the time but it never bothered you anyway
Leading the blind while I stared out the steel in your eyes
