@andeeezz Not every crass fan had the luxury of even being born in '82. If this is the closest we can get, then so be it. I saw Steve play at this gig and at the close of The Last Supper tour. I'm sure we'd all love to have seen Crass back, but this was still fantastic

Hey, it's all TOO fuckin' easy to call-out the 'Hypocrite' Card when someone is putting a message out there. I just seems wrong and to really have lost it's voice and urgency. I can't blame them for wanting to make a little cash but at the same time it feels like the glamour of the stage and lights really kill it. maybe I and a little confused
I saw crass at first in 1984 live in front of 500.000 miners. I didn't understand why they could make a comeback? They're one of the important punkbands ever. They impressed my life, my acting. But everybody which give enough have at the end nothing. They built up Rough Trade, they spent more than 12.000.000 records worldwide, they were insperation for jobbing, musicians, they make compilations etc. So in this way they would make some money for their pension? @aopsparksy Crass was the real deal, I grew up with their words and art. Now, Steve Ignorant is just a beer guzzling, football watching, fraud an whore. He once pretended to rally the youth now he just wants to bully them into felling bad for not buying him a pint. Crass = sellouts. And if you have been a fan then you know just how much seeing this hurts. Penny still has the heart and care.
@eikonenoki Crass didn't sell out. Steve is the one using Crass material to please the punk youth of today. Seems very contradicting no doubt. Most of the vocals were done by steve but I believe it was words of Penny and Eve that made Crass. We shouldn't let Steve and what ever his motives may be get in the way of the true message: there is no authority but yourself. Lets continue to push for real freedom and liberty despite the actions of one man.
@tdhtv "there is no authority but yourself" ..... to quote your statement (and that of CRASS). Then who may I ask are you to look down on Steve's "actions" for "being his own authority on what he can do" ? I see nothing wrong with either full or (as in the CRASS case) partial reunions of the old punk bands. Fucking young scene police bullshit is all this uproar is about.
@DFA1972 Just because I believe people should have authority over their own life doesn't mean I'm not aloud to state my opinion on an individuals actions. Crass questioned the motives of many as well if you remember their songs. He has every right to make money off his music but that doesn't mean we all have to like it. I'm not policing anything, I'm not at all forcing myself on this man I'm simply stating an opinion.

wow anyone that says this is crap is fucking lame. common let steve ignorant be, he was around 17 years old when he joined the band so he was doing all of this during his youth years so he maybe got treated like an adult, so come on if he wants to do this to remember his youth years then let him & if people were bitching of how much things cost at the show well you gotta remember its not 1977 or 1984 anymore so prices have gone up on stuff
i saw crass a lot of times in the late seventies, good live band, but all this anarchist bollocks, they hav'nt shot the royals or blown up so much as a plastic bag(unless it had glue init) they are full of shit and really boring.
If you guys wanna see a sell out then go look in a mirror. All you "I was a real punk" losers should look at yourselves. What kind of lifes are you living now? Just the fact that you have an internet connection, is prove to me that you sold out. That is all fair enough to me. But holding other people to higher standards than yourselves is pathetic and shameful. The few of you (my guess is none of you) that still live as squatters and figth the establishment on a daily basis is excused.
Nice one!......there was more to "Punk" than the music and wearing an A sign on your T shirt- It was about challenging and changing society- something I still do all the time.
yeah i dont know why this happened. see now if the money from these concerts went to some sort of charity then i think thats fine but to play crass songs with no other members of crass for self gratitude seems too distant from the original crass ideals
Leave Steve Ignorant alone, He aint ripping any other artists stuff off, He's just performing what he wrote when he was in the Crass, Blokes got to make a living, Give him a break, If you don't like it don't listen to it, Simple !
@stetsoncutie That's just it! He didn't write the songs, he just performed them. Most of these songs were written by Penny Rimbaud. He did call himself Ignorant with reason...
the clash didnt have to reform, they were wealthy. strummer died with millions in the bank. he also wasnt above half filling his mescaleros sets with clash songs.
This monkey bought their records and saw them perform when you were still swimming in your daddies ballsack ...
Of course they never sold out but even Penny [Rimbaud for the youngsters who didn't live it] is annoyed by everybody making money with the name Crass on merchandise and they never saw a penny of it.
They deserve to make some money; that's what i meant.
I saw Crass play twice in the '80's and they were excellent, this is pretty fucking poor by any standards. Just seems to go against everything Crass ever stood for.
All the "punk police" can fuck themselves. Steve's still getting up there and doing something. What are you doing? I guess you wouldn't be happy unless he swam over here and did free shows in abandoned buildings. He's bringing Crass' music to the U.S. for the first fucking time and people are gonna bitch about tickets being $23 or some stupid shit like he's actually got a nice PA system. God fucking forbid he doesn't sacrifice everything to appease your punk credentials...
@RadioSchizoUT Totally agree with you. I was at this very show right here, and it was the best show Ive ever seen, hands down. Crass has more meaning now then it ever has... in my opinion. Bail outs to big banks, oil hungry wars, wall street shafting us every minute of every day. Yeah, all these assholes on here can suck cock!
I think Penny has stuck by his ethos. He was living it long before Crass existed and has never had any reason to go in any other direction. I don't know enough about Ignorant to understand what he is up to but I would have hoped that he had a healthy contempt for money which ironically the Crass helped me to develop. Oh well, here in Oz we have permaculture which has proved that an anarchic way of life is entirely possible.
John lydon did an ad for butter because he can, I didnt know there were rules to "Punk" I thought "Punk" meant do what YOU want, your way, He did an ad for butter ..so what ? He says his opinion , just like steve ignorant does, Is there a rule book on how to be a "Punk"? if so, live by it or fuck off to planet Greenday.
"where's the fucking cash?....listen I've got a habit to support..... this means war, mate."- was that really him on the turbonegr record? an honest extortionist gets way more respect than a "rotten"guy in a suit who represents everything he once stood against.
lydon and the pistols are fine there music i feel is marginal there tallent is minimal however they served a purpose and helped introduce the world to there scene, but seriously jonny lydon is nothing but a fucking sell out a totttal attention whore. I m feeling more purpose and meaningful substance in crass. the people who have been infected are those who choose to let others think for themCHAOSPUNKSNSKINS
just cuz he did 1 show when hes old and shit he probly needed the money im sry we dont live in fairytale land and money is the way shit works..what was that lyric again? "This structures stretches, it'll bend but not break,"
i dont consider this to be selling out, obviouslly the demand to see some sort of steve ignorant/crass performance has multiplied shit loads since the 80's, so it had to be a big gig with good sound & you could argue that they could have just not bothered..buts thats no fun is it, & anyway wheres the rulebook, i say fair play to it, good performance
If you watch the Penny Rimbaud interviews on youtube, you'll see that he was pretty upset that Steve was doing it. I can see why, but maybe Steve did it because he knew it would never happen otherwise. Pleasing fans is important. It is a tad lame, and the guy JUMPING with his guitar is suuuper out of place. Still, he's a pioneer, and he's allowed to do a show in my book. Crass forever.
steve looks happy the people watching it look happy the energy is good. sorry penny but its a good rock and roll vibe sorry if that offends your high art anarchist credo. long live having a good time. have lots of sex look at pictures of naked and dont be affraid to be politicaly incorrect
you know i had always had respect for steve ignorant /crass (i know this is not them, just steve)even though i didn't agree or followed their ideals, i am apolitical,i appreciated how serious they were about their beliefs/credos.now i see this and i understand we all need to eat but,is this how it ends? dissapointed in you.
Oh yeah Punk Rock, what exactly are we celebrating here, the fact that the system is all the same ,the promoters are all the same, the bands are all the same.Who was gonna benefit from this gig egos or legit concerns ?? .....................
i stayed up on cocaine and mdma for the whole weekend. and im 42 !!! i was ill til,the fucking wednesday though. good on the nite but he shouldve chose a band that didnt jump around like wankers.
thats $21.92 or something in american dollers, thats a shit load for a shirt dude, exspcily comeing from steave ignorant from CRASS, back in the day theyd never sell there shirts for 21 bucks probly more like $5.
whell if youo look at the place there playing and what they got then they must be doing pretty whell cuz every band ive seen who "needs the money" dosent put on a show like that
sex pistols are fuckin sellouts so it dont matter.
and it dosent matter how much they make im just saying, crass whould never sell a t-shirt for 25 bucks they were never for that, and the punk scene makes more chash now then they did back in the 70s and 80s
na dude the boom of mainstream/pop-punk(aka mtv punk) was in the 90s now hardcore is somewhat comeing back...sortof but the bad religon era is comeing back
To correct this reply, The Casualties DO NOT live in squats, 3 of the 4 members work legit jobs and pay rent in their NY / NJ Apartments so get your facts straight before you post utter nonsense like this.
Penny must have giggled at this one. Steve Ignorant of all people on the "Greatest Hits" circuit. 15 sobs for a t-shirt? Why don't you just wipe your arse on the Crass logo and have done with it Steve? I'm glad I wasn't there, I can only imagine all those fat, bald middle-aged "punks" getting shagged out after pogoing for 25 seconds to "Sucks" before waddling for the last bus so they could get a good night's sleep before a hard day at the office. This is about as punk as Bucks Fizz.
Hey less of the how I "handled" middle age, I'm only just approaching it lmao! I ignore music totally and only listen to blank cassettes dressed in a butchers apron and a fez. Now THAT'S punk!
You lose your whole argument straight away, everyone gets older, why should we have to conform, it's easy for you to say this now but in 10 years time you'll think differently, trust me.
I didn't say anything about "conforming"... still I don't know you imagine fat middle aged bald blokes wearing overpriced t-shirts, getting pissed and going to these kind of "sing-a-long-a-punk" nostalgia nights are making a difference to anything. Just look at Holidays In The Sun - punk is about YOUTH, being young and angry, not spending a weekend in Butlins wearing your old dusty Doc Martens with your cool spike haired brats and rune-collecting missus. What a load of cobblers!
I wasn't aiming any of that at you personally, just a generalisation. No offence meant Squire, we'll just have to agree to disagree about live punk "events". Peace!
I'm 30 and in m,y place at the time was a bit hard to get access to this sorta bands, ... but nowadays I feel pretty identified with it thus having listened to punk rock for about 15 years now, and YES I think I on't own the right to critizise anyone but myself. They do what they do having their very own background, how could I ay they are shite when I come from a very different one? By the way I started being a vegetarian years before being a punk.
This bullshit has more in common with the X-Factor & Karaoke than the Crass that I saw in '82

Do Crass owe an apology over their reaction to Conway Hall -of course they fucking (still) do

did crass sell out?
ive already lost all hope with punk.
if crass did then ive lost hope in everything.
i wont even bother trying to make a difference with my band.

I m feeling more purpose and meaningful substance in crass. the people who have been infected are those who choose to let others think for themCHAOSPUNKSNSKINS

i dont consider this to be selling out, obviouslly the demand to see some sort of steve ignorant/crass performance has multiplied shit loads since the 80's, so it had to be a big gig with good sound & you could argue that they could have just not bothered..buts thats no fun is it, & anyway wheres the rulebook, i say fair play to it, good performance
MrVinnieV 2 years ago 3
If you watch the Penny Rimbaud interviews on youtube, you'll see that he was pretty upset that Steve was doing it. I can see why, but maybe Steve did it because he knew it would never happen otherwise. Pleasing fans is important. It is a tad lame, and the guy JUMPING with his guitar is suuuper out of place. Still, he's a pioneer, and he's allowed to do a show in my book. Crass forever.

the money goes to support the band ...
greendayidiot13 3 years ago
thats $21.92 or something in american dollers, thats a shit load for a shirt dude, exspcily comeing from steave ignorant from CRASS, back in the day theyd never sell there shirts for 21 bucks probly more like $5.
lusefer 3 years ago
Yeah... seems like they need the money and they are going to get it however possible.
greendayidiot13 3 years ago
whell if youo look at the place there playing and what they got then they must be doing pretty whell cuz every band ive seen who "needs the money" dosent put on a show like that
lusefer 3 years ago
Mate that venue is actaully pretty tiny. Just has a top bit.
And trust me, there is hardly any money in the music buisness, espescially in the punk scene.
Sex Pistols have a hard time making money.
greendayidiot13 3 years ago
sex pistols are fuckin sellouts so it dont matter.
and it dosent matter how much they make im just saying, crass whould never sell a t-shirt for 25 bucks they were never for that, and the punk scene makes more chash now then they did back in the 70s and 80s
lusefer 3 years ago
it aint crass you fuk wit
erazerhedd 3 years ago
i no its not crass, but just because this is a vid of steve dosent mean we cant talk about crass
lusefer 3 years ago 2
fuk off they were paid over a million pound doing the english festival scene fuk off
erazerhedd 3 years ago
Yeah i get your point.
The 'squat for life/anarcho' crass would never charge so much.
I guess you have to label them sellouts aswell.
The truth is, you gotta make the money man. You gotta live.
The real boom of punk was in the 90s. And now it's on a serious decline again.
greendayidiot13 3 years ago
na dude the boom of mainstream/pop-punk(aka mtv punk) was in the 90s now hardcore is somewhat comeing back...sortof but the bad religon era is comeing back
lusefer 3 years ago
fuk u know nothing about punk go eat a mc dee
erazerhedd 3 years ago
Yeah through the MTV punk boom , all the underground bands benefited a lot.
What 'hardcore/bad relgiionish' bands you talkng about ?
greendayidiot13 3 years ago
like anti-flag and the casualties, like "real" punk bands but mainstreemish
lusefer 3 years ago
Oh yeah obviously.
But you would be surprised to know THe Casualties still squat around New York.
While justin sane lives in a tiny flat in London.
greendayidiot13 3 years ago
oh yeah i no but theyre just kind of in the mainstreem thanks to hottopic and what not.
lusefer 3 years ago

SteveResin 3 years ago
So what is your solution? we all age gracefully?
Buy slippers, put our feet up and watch Newsnight?
JANER64 3 years ago
That's exactly what 80% of that crowd did when they got home, and you know it ;)
SteveResin 3 years ago
lol, well it would be easy for me to say I was part of the 20% crowd but what I really want to know is how you handled middle age!!
JANER64 3 years ago
Hey less of the how I "handled" middle age, I'm only just approaching it lmao! I ignore music totally and only listen to blank cassettes dressed in a butchers apron and a fez. Now THAT'S punk!
SteveResin 3 years ago 2
You lose your whole argument straight away, everyone gets older, why should we have to conform, it's easy for you to say this now but in 10 years time you'll think differently, trust me.
JANER64 3 years ago
I didn't say anything about "conforming"... still I don't know you imagine fat middle aged bald blokes wearing overpriced t-shirts, getting pissed and going to these kind of "sing-a-long-a-punk" nostalgia nights are making a difference to anything. Just look at Holidays In The Sun - punk is about YOUTH, being young and angry, not spending a weekend in Butlins wearing your old dusty Doc Martens with your cool spike haired brats and rune-collecting missus. What a load of cobblers!
SteveResin 3 years ago 3
I am 44, a Veggie, I am told I look 34 bla bla, I am anti shite trust me, have more faith in the older generation, oh I have a full set of hair!
JANER64 3 years ago
I wasn't aiming any of that at you personally, just a generalisation. No offence meant Squire, we'll just have to agree to disagree about live punk "events". Peace!
SteveResin 3 years ago
o h it's pretty cool to read your comments
I'm 30 and in m,y place at the time was a bit hard to get access to this sorta bands, ... but nowadays I feel pretty identified with it thus having listened to punk rock for about 15 years now, and YES I think I on't own the right to critizise anyone but myself. They do what they do having their very own background, how could I ay they are shite when I come from a very different one? By the way I started being a vegetarian years before being a punk.
