The female vocalists are: Marge Raymond, Susan Collins, Nancy O'Neil and Ellie Greenwich. We recorded the background vocals at Record Plant Studios in NYC. We also were brought on tour with ELO to backup the Face the Music Album.
Marge Raymond here. I am the prominent voice on Down Home Town that has the small solo "ooh I feel you coming down now" I was with the group SuMagNa along with Ellie Greenwich. On the last Wish I was in the land of Dixie, I am the first Look Away voice. Here is the interview that I did pertaining to the Face the Music Album. There are pictures on the net that show us touring with ELO. If you google my name you will see the interview I did with ELO secret messages.
@Californiway .... The female backing vocals that you hear are actually three women (can't think of the names right now) who were hired to sing backup on the studio album. Jeff's backing vocalist and bass player, Kelly Groucutt, only sang them live on stage, as well the opera parts in Rockaria! later on in '76. Those were recorded on A New World Record by Mary Thomas, an actual opera singer.
This song is really nice! ELO was good in music. They even figured out how to do backwards messages! They even have one in the beginning of this song!
@britfrenir The singer that sounds like a girl is the backup singer to Jeff Lynne. He sings on alot of ELO songs with Jeff. Like Shine a Little Love! IDK his name though. But he has the same hair and beard as Jeff.
WOW!! I completely forgot about this song. Thanks for the memory. This song should be remade since contemporary musicians have only talent to cover others material.
Nice song Bob errr Jeff. ;O)

Song is very impressive. The progression is excellent. It has a very catchy beat to it as well.

I first heard this after I had the album for a few years. It sounds like a woman sings with them like in Evil Woman and Livin Thing.
