  • ...Don't give up your day job!!!

  • been looking for an acoustic version. I converted this and put it on my mp3, thank you

  • @navojoARISTOCRAT You're most welcome.

  • @RiverCitiDan Thanks for watching.

  • ^__^ my nana used to sing this to me and my brother as a child, now I sing it to my son. thank you for posting this and reminding me of my nana

  • @ElvenShalafi You're welcome. I'm glad I could bring back those memories.

  • This tag is wrong the WTG song is a scottish border ballad from 1740. The characters were all real, historical and lived in Nithsdale which is nowhere near ireland.

  • So good, I just made my own attempt at this

  • @ptwnstargazer Thanks for the video response.

  • Tempo way too predictable. Work on phrasing. Finger rather than strum guitar.

    Potential.

    WHERE IS COSMIO PROPELLOR?

  • There is some doubt about the "original version" anyway. Words are bound to get changed as the song is passed on. All part of the folk process.

    Thanks for your comments.

  • Once again, very good. I do believe if you slowed down a bit, it would sound better. Somewhat like the Tommy Makem and Clancy Brothers version.

    -Drew

  • Possibly. I just prefer the other versions of this ballad.

  • Lots of titles and lyrics to this song--see "The Lady and the Gypsy" in Niles's "The Ballad Book' (1960). Niles collected a version in Kentucky in 1932; he reports Childs dates the story to around 1609!

  • I love this song. I'm thinking of uploading my own version with my dad.

  • I look forward to hearing it.

  • I just posted my version. You should check it out. I'd love to know what you think.

  • Thanks for letting me know. I enjoyed it very much.

  • grt siger come over 2 our site 2 enjoy some more gd irish music

  • The kids in music class were singing this all through the hallways,

so i decided to look it up. good job!!

  • Thanks. I hope you'll find more songs to enjoy on my channel.

  • salonca!

  • Anyone knows the tabs/chords for "The Dublin saunter" (also known as Dublin can be heaven) by the same composer? Thanks. Greetings from Portugal

  • This is what we sang at Outdoor School!

  • Seems very appropriate!

  • im doing this im my song lessons!!!!

  • Good. I'm glad to hear it's still being taught.

  • oh my Gosh, I used to sing this back in 8th grade, in a music textbook, it said old Irish folk song. i have looked for it for years, on a whim i happened to type it in here, Thank You sooo much. i love this song.

  • It used to be a popular one in schools. I'm glad you found it here.

  • Very fun. Not too hard, just getting the intonation and the cantabile parts. Well, the song is mostly cantabile, as one would imagine.

  • Hehe, very nice. We are actually playing this song in my orchestra. But, considering that I am Irish, I love this song. And, it is a very fun song to play on the violin.

  • I've never tried it on the violin. Must have a go at it.

  • Hello

    Raymond...

Need I say that this is a perennial favorite @ Sweet Rosie O'Grady's Saloon in The Big Apple?...lol!

I had to accompanny your fine redndition on my pennywhistle. We sounded quite good, even if I do say so myself. This is one of those priceless chestnuts that one simply HAS to sing along to!

    Peace,

    Stewball

  • I'd love to hear your pennywhistle accompaniment.

  • I'd have put a few more minor chords in if I were you. Also played it a bit slower.

Happy memory though as it's another my aunt sang me with her guitar when I was a littl'un.

  • I do sometimes do it slower. Depends on my mood. Glad I could bring back some memories.

  • As I've mentioned to you before I saw the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem several times in the late 50s or early 60s and you always do a great job of covering these familiar songs. Thanks.

  • It would be so great to see them in live performance. I just have to make do with their wonderful recordings.
