  • Wow amazing thats that neo soul

  • Jazzy!!!!

  • This is real decent of you bruh! Thanks!

  • wow k.c. love bro. please don`t stop posting video`s bro . your a good mentor on the piano or keys. what you say helps out the mental part of the player. thx God bless.

  • I really appreciate this video. I have a question that maybe you can answer. I've been playing the piano at church for testimony service where they sing songs like "nobody but you lord" or " i know it was the blood" with an uptempo. I've been playing basic 1-3-5 chords, but would like to jazz up my sound. what do you suggest? any help is appreciated.

  • Yo man!! I have been lookin for some simple help on youtube. This video is by far the most helpful for me. I like the way you break down what notes are in the chords and what scales to use to get a better understanding of how to hear what I want to learn. Thank you for the blessing. This has helped my drumming, bass playin ,and piano skills. Godspeed bruh.

  • yea, this is a pretty nice simple groove for beginners or even a beast.. it got that doobie powell soloing feel...

  • Yooo!!!! this is a big help to me!! thx dude! this is suck a blessing!

  • Ok Ok so i just found this video right like a couple of days ago and its the only thing musically in my mind(lol) like its really really really sick. Im chilling searching on web and listening to this and vibing out...Love this sound im trying to mimic but its all you my dude. Please please stay encourage and a blessing to people like myself. I learned and flipped it but the orginal* is always the best.

  • MAN! I REALLY APPERCIATE WAT UR DOING, you play wat everyone plays in the beginning of tutorials and they never show u, Ive always want to learn that style of playing. Thank you so much, and i thank God for blessing you with the talent. HA! lol thanks. May God continue to bless you

  • By the way, It sounds GREAT. and Thanks again

  • Oops, Music Theory Mistake on my part. There are 2 not 3 choices of scales to run over that 1st chord you played (Fminor 9) Choice one E flat major scale, Choice 2 and the choice K C made is the A flat major Scale. How / Why Did you choose A Flat over E Flat. Thanks K C or anyone. I totally get how/why the B Scale works over the 2nd Chord (F# 13/Dominant) But not certain how you knew to use the A flat scale over the first chord instead of and E flat Scale.

  • First of All THANKS and GOD BLESS YOU.

Question: That first chord is an Fminor 9. An F minor 9 is a 2 chord in E flat, or a 3 chord in D flat, or a 6 chord in A Flat. How / Why did you choose the A Flat Scale vs. the E Eflat scale or the D flat scale? And could you in fact have choosen either of the two. Thanks again so much and do you have DVD's for sale?

  • i love what your doing man your a blessing to me thank you and i get what you mean about sharps & flats i'm a theory man myself so i get it but u were oin top of it musically correct

Thanks so much for making this video. It has and is helping me a lot. I'm glad I know my music theory because after studying this I realized that it's just basic chords that have been inverted here & there. I loved the way you broke down each section and each phase of the "groove". Keep up the good work.

    SAGE

  • first and foremost thanks for sharing some of what you know with everyone. I see what youre doin with the soloin but what are the sweet spots within those scales? I got my scales down cold and I would like to know if there are any excersizes that can help me build my technique on how to hit those licks like youre doin.

  • K.C man u r DA BOMB.. FO REAL.. keep up da good work man keep it up

  • Thanks a million for this post ! I pray God continues to bless. One question, what were the drawbar settings you were playing ?

  • yeah don't stop....!!!

    very good stuff!!

  • OK, I know your not trying to hear this crap,

but I can't help it. Why is C#sharp not

D flat? Because there is no C flat. OK why is B flat? not A# Sharp? Because

there is no B# sharp.... Same theory for

E flat and F# sharp. I don't have answer for A flat or G# Sharp.

And I love the way you teach you are a Beast!

    Bless Ya A++

  • This is called enharmonic spelling. C# is the same as Db, but when to use either depends on what key signature you are in. Example, lets spell out Db. Db-Eb-F-Gb-Ab-Ba-C-Db. When you are in a flat key you only use flats instead of sharps. Ex. Eb in this key wouldn't be called D# because you gotta choose wether to go with all flat or sharps.

  • If you were using the key signature for B, you would spell it like this. B-C#-D#-E-F#-G#-A#-B. All sharps, and not sharps and flats mixed. This system is consistent. Notice this time C# was not called Db. So this again is called enharmonic spelling and you use it in reference to the key your going to play in. A set rule is that some keys use only sharps (G,D,A,E,B)and some keys only flats (F,Bb,Eb,Ab,Db,Gb). If a sharp/flat is used it usually indicates to go up/down a halfstep. Hope it helped

  • you should spell enharmonically to the key that your in is what he was saying

  • huh??? :o)

  • you are a trip man I appreciate this videos I used this in some talk music earlier today

  • @prettysimplemusic I think he means if you're in a key that has sharps then spell with sharps & if you're in a key that has flats, spell with flats. Like Fm has flats, but A has sharps.

  • K.C. I LOVE YOU!!!! Are you married? lol I have learned so much from you in the last 10 minutes. You are awesome!!! Thank you. I love your sharing spirit. We need more people like you. God Bless YOU!!!

  • Thanx K.C. i learned alot bruh

  • i would not say that was for beginners more like intermediate

  • Wow! I think I just learned three months worth in 10 mins! Off da chain!!

    Please don't stop!!

  • man thats wondrerfull if b chance can you explaine the thoery behind the scales you use 4 each chord ? God bless

  • The 1st chord (Fmin9)has a relative major of Ab. The 2nd chord (F#13) is the 5 of B major. The 3rd Chord (Gmin9) has a relative major of Bb. Thw 4th chord (Ab13) is the 5 of Db major. The pattern goes minor, dominant, minor, dominant. Hope that helps but if not sena a reply and I'll try to simplify it. His scale choices really are simple but he has a real slick way of applying them that just comes with a little time, practice, and experimentation. And oh yeah patience.

  • u r good bro keep it up man

  • Man, thats tight. I do a little teachin myself and I must admit. I dont make it that simple. Thanks for raisin the standard. I took music theory in college and Graduated with a music degree and your right on it. Thanks man.

    D

  • Obviously you are annointed to TEACH. You make it so simple and fun to learn.

    God Bless You

    and thank you

I cant wait until the DVD is out.

  • nice skillz

  • Yes!! I love those runs!

  • enjoyed it doc. i've been playing 36years and i always when things are explained by someone who knows what they are talking about in a simple way.

  • thanks man.

  • I've been playing for years...and as easy as I try to make music seem to others, you do a great job at it. Do ya thing bro!

  • I have purchased many of the popular instructional DVDs, and basically they're just showing of their skills. Very few of them break it down like you do, brother. You really teach things that I can use, and you make it a lot easier to understand. I wonder if you would consider making a DVD expanding upon this particular concept. Many of us beginners and intermediates would love to understand better which scales to play over certain chords. I would gladly purchase it from you. Peace and love.

  • this is awesome. Thank you! I've been improving since I was 12 years old, and it's always great to learn from someone heaps better!

  • Really nice as instructional vid.

  • good stuff man!!! check my videos out and tell me what you think Ive been playing about a year or so. This has helped me out alot. To God be the glory

  • this is some good stuff thanks 4 posting.

I look forward to more vids from U man.

    Thanx.

  • Boy u know u jamming i like that, keep up the good work, and be blessed

  • Wow, a big help to me. I need instructions like this!

  • Your an amazing teacher! I like how you break it down to make it sound so simple.

  • That was real helpful,

ive been doing jazz piano for about 2-3 years, I think my fingers are up to it, but i just dont have the material to use, you know, chord sequences etc. i play piano a lot, but i always end up improvising using similar chords, usually using blues scales, I like this style much more, it has more flow. And your video realy helped, cheers for putting it up!

  • This is wonderful. You have awesome knowledge. Very clean and precise God Bless You

  • Nice, i will be trying this today!!!! and congrats on the dvd.

  • I appreciate you very much. You are the type of person that I would value as a friend. Not just because you are a musician but because of your Heart which belongs to God. I've played for many years, yet I am always a student. I never met a church musician with your personality of sharing. I've always been willing to share while others just want to take. You are Highly appreciated.

  • I hear you doc....I hear you!!

  • Hey Bro

Cool tricks . Can't wait to go to church and jam . Thanks God Bless

  • yo bro u nice wit it send me a video .

  • yea doc you nasty!! I've been playing for a few years and your videos are good tool for musicians who want to learn...stay humble

  • If anyone is curious, i posted a video response to this with a transcription of his comping during the last 2 minutes. it's under my profile. check it out. Thanks to kevin for the amazing example of nasty, nasty r&B gospel comping.

  • I'm Speechless!!! I wouldn't, in a million years, have ever imagined the day that someone would appreciate the musical gift that God has given me - to this extent. I don't even know this person, and he has taken so much time to transcribe something that I didn't take too much thought into creating... "mulletchuck" has definitely earned my "#1 youtube fan" award!!! Thanks for the support!!!

  • well, that's the whole point. being able to learn the steps that you took in order to be able to effortlessly play this way. it's kind of like Reverse-Engineering, if you will. If I had a video camera, i'd record some talk of an analysis of what you're doing, but it's really all in the Mark Levine Jazz Piano book. and that transcription only took about 3 hours. but i do that kind of stuff for a living.

  • mulletchuck - believe it or not, the way i created those chords at the end - a 5 year old can do...lol :-)

no really... it's all on the dvd!!!

  • sweet, you should send me a free copy, just to prove me wrong in my stance that 5-year-olds can't learn to comp with drop-2 block voicings and nasty-good pocket feel. just shoot me a PM for my address. Probably take, what, 3, 4 days for it to show up in my mailbox, right?

  • I apologize to all of my youtube fans... My old youtube account was terminated by accident!!! I will repost all of my videos from my previous "prettysimplemusic" account.

Thanks for your continued support and positive ratings!!!
