I think it's possible to take action on global warming without decreasing jobs, increasing government control, etc. What about a massive renewable energy industry? What about reducing income taxes drastically so that a carbon tax doesn't make you pay more in total? What if we changed our whole system of economics so the environment was no longer an externality? Well, my proud American friend, because we lose the ice caps in 20 years. Permafrost is dissappearing in communities in the far northern hemi-sphere, meaning re-location for large communities. Logic dictates when the caps are gone, we may see a cool few years but with the continued consumption anywhere - not just america - will lead to increases.
