  • I love this video. These are in the woods near my house with cardinals and

tons of ruby-crowned kinglets. Bird Heaven!

  • you can hear a chickadee in the background before the sparrow starts chirping LOL

  • Okay, just before the bird you have in the video starts singing, another bird can be heard in the background with a similar song. Also immediately after this sparrow's first song. Also continually throughout.

Is it also a white-throated sparrow? It is driving me INSANE that I don't know what this bird is, and I've heard it my whole life.

  • @HeatherWassing Probably the black capped chickadee. They start off sounding similar.

  • @HeatherWassing That's actually another White Throated Sparrow. It's often confused with the Black Capped Chickadee's "phee bee" call but it's different, it actually bends into the second note. There's a great video on youtube of a white throat singing that exact tune. It appears they have many songs in their repertoire.

  • This bird's song always reminds me of my father.

  • I have so many of these birdie princes singing outside my window!! They're so gorgeous!

  • thanks for the video. I have been hearing this call in the Washington DC area during mid April. Just today an Audubon naturalist identified the bird for me.

  • Who were the two who gave this a thumbs down!! Why??

  • My favorite bird, and this is just SO adorable! Well done! :o)

  • My favorite bird, and this is just SO adorable! Well done! :o)

  • This is like the cutest thing ever!

  • You're so welcome @b3thmccann .. my husband did a great job capturing this beautiful bird singing.. The only time he was able to capture it close enough to also record it. We do love this video and so happy we could share it with all those who also appreciate the beautiful sounds of the White Throated Sparrow .. Cheers!

  • All my life I have loved this song, and always wondered who sang it! My grandfather used to call this bird the "Tom Tiddly" and none of my bird-watcher friends have ever been able to tell me what his real name is. When I hear this song for the first time in the spring I know that spring is officially here in NB. Thanks for bringing back wonderful memories of my grampie and for finally helping me know who sings this beautiful song!!

  • The best thing was while I recording this was all the other sparrows responding to this one. It was like a chorus of music. You can hear the others in the background calling back

  • @northernads I love how the other birds don't just reply; they harmonise. The notes aren't completely the same

  • Great video

  • this song is engraved in my brain as "home", when I hear it I feel I'm where I should be

  • anyone have further info about the variation in the couple notes before the 'arpeggio'?

  • I remember one summer when I was a kid we were poor so we had to spend the month in a friends cabin... but I remember hearing this in the morning as I woke up and it still fills me up when I think about how beautiful it was.

  • exquisite!

  • best sound in the world right here! this reminds me so much of summers up north in Temagami Ontario. ive always wondered what this bird was and have never been able to figure it out... just awesome

  • Thanks for posting this, I to have always wanted to know what bird this was that makes this sound. I relate it to a yearly muskie fishing trip at Nestor Falls Ontario. I wish they made a CD of this birds sounds.

  • My cats are freaking out now ~!!!! lolol sweeeeeetist song, so cute

  • I've been trying to figure out which bird sings this song for YEARS!! Thanks so much ... this is my favourite song ... so relaxing to hear it in the morning ... :)

  • One of my favorite songbirds. Last summer, a white-throated sparrow took up residence in a Lowe's store near my home. It would sing from high above the shelves. One time I spotted it near the bird supplies aisle, eating birdseed! It was quite a surprise to walk into a home improvement store and hear the beautiful song of the white-throated sparrow.

  • Reminds me of camping in the summer anywhere north of Toronto!

  • This guy woke me up in the morning. I couldn't spot him. I'm glad I can finally see what he looks like. He's been singing all day!<3

  • thanks for posting this video.

I'm looking at the symbolism of white-throated sparrows in The Wars by Timothy Findley...and thought I should hear what Robert Ross thought he heard during after a gas attack.

What a beautiful song. Now I can go and write...

  • plutot "Cache ton cul Frédéric, Frédéric"

  • we used to sing this birds song on colonial house because we had them where we were filming in maine. our only music. ahhhh

  • fantastic footage. Such a beautiful sound. Thanks you

  • I first heard the song of the white-throated sparrow in Brookfield, New Hampshire in an open field. It was so haunting I searched a long time to try to find the source. Thanks for posting this!

  • Now that I remember, we had a white throated sparrow at our ground feeder for a couple of weeks last winter. It lunged at any bird that came within a foot of it, including the cardinals. The house sparrows wouldn't even get near it after a few days, LOL.

No idea why it was so territorial, but it was amusing to watch.

  • next to the Chickadee's Fee Bee calls, i love this sparrow's call the most. Some people say it sounds like its saying "Sam Peabody peabody peabody" lol

  • Ahh, Ron - now I can put a face to the photographer who gave us this beautiful little sparrow.

  • I am originally from Tennessee and I hear this bird EVERY morning - beautiful! I don't know why this bird is around - but I searched through all the sparrows and found this one

  • Northernads: I went to summer camp up in Quebec in the 1950s, (born in Montreal), and constantly heard this haunting song, but never knew the source. Only today - literally today - did I learn the source. What a treat, and what a sweet, beautiful little creature. "O Canada Canada Canada" indeed!! Thanks!!

  • I love white throated sparrows!! Such a beautiful song!
