The murder of Stuart Chandler was the most despicable thing Chuck Pratt has ever wrote!!! What disrespect, towards the character that is Stuart. Being shot like that, ugh!
If anything, I think it lowered them. This is a depressing thought but....I can't help but think that maybe they are deliberately trying to kill the show....o_O

Yeah, Stuart was always such a nice guy. Why would they think killing him off was a good idea? I don't think it helped AMC's ratings any, did it?
