What I don't like about all this, is all you ever hear about is the Jewish holocaust in Germany. Somehow that's more important than this holocaust which went on or 400 years or more. And on top of that, the American Indian holocaust which also lasted hundreds of years. How come people don't make this point when discussing the Nazi era in 1920s , 30s Germany.?

I have seen comments by people who should be informed that Blacks were in North America before the white man started importing Africans as slaves. They were here trading with the Indians and intermarried into many tribes. Has anyone noticed that when the subject of slavery comes up in this country, someone ALWAYS try to downplay it by mentioning slavery in other countries, including Africa? But, mention South African Apartheid or the Holocaust, those same people denounce those atrocities with a fervor. They will honor Mandela but won't honor King. So, when they try to change the subject about slavery in the USA, simply mention atrocities against Native Americans and watch how they shut up.

of course there would've been people who rejected this idea and moved forward to neglect the situation. every white person is not guitly of this! Louisiana who couldn't have children of his own and wanted a wife with children who could cook. He used the female children, including my grandmother for house slaves and the male children for field slaves. when he died he left them all penniless leaving everything to his brother. Not all slaves were black. But all are worth our rememberance!

You folks aware that free blacks in the American South owned (gasp) black slaves? Although they were a minority within a minority (white slave owners) there weren't just 1or 2. Many, many free blacks in NOLA owned black slaves.
Southern free blacks didn't just own a few slaves, at least one in SC possesed almost 200!

I HATE Slavery! My greatgrandmother was an Italian woman Anna Cucci who was a slave bride for a rich plantation owner in
Louisiana who couldn't have children of his own and wanted a wife with children who could cook. He used the female children, including my grandmother for house slaves and the male children for field slaves. when he died he left them all penniless leaving everything to his brother. Not all slaves were black. But all are worth our rememberance!

Never forget is right, but don't dwell on history to fuel anger today. None of us was alive then and we seem to be using history as a crutch to get special treatment crying "racism" whenever we can. That sentiment is keeping racism alive and our so-called leaders like Jesse, and Al among others are hurting us by keeping the division and resentment alive so they can enrich themselves. You folks aware that free blacks in the American South owned (gasp) black slaves? Although they were a minority within a minority (white slave owners) there weren't just 1or 2. Many, many free blacks in NOLA owned black slaves.
Southern free blacks didn't just own a few slaves, at least one in SC possesed almost 200!
How could blacks do this -- enslave / sell their fellow blacks in Africa and once becoming free men in the US continue to perpetuate the bondage of their own kind!

Do you have any idea how many world populations in the past two centuries and beyond endured some form of slavery, ethnic cleansing, massive rape of their women, oppression? And, ironically, it caused the greatest mass immigration tot the US in the nineteenth century. People made decisions to let go. The ones left behind also moved on. The way to deal with it is to move on, as harsh as that may sound, which is not the intention, or else you're always living with it in the present.

Latinos owned many many slaves all over the western hemisphere. Mexico was a major supplier of slaves to Brasil.
The Arabs had the largest number of slaves, by far though.

The trades went between the Africa, the Caribbean and the US for people, salt cod, amunitions, sugar cane, ivory, molasses, etc. I'm certainly not a proponent of slavery, but the idea of caucasions of whites going into Africa, hunting healthy people... eh... think a product of movies rather than reality. Not saying it was right. Certainly wasn't.

Perhaps still about sugar cane, too, in the Dominican Republic. If you want to make a stand, pay an extra $5 bucks per pack for coffee that's Fair Trade. Buy Green and Black's chocolate. Avoid Oriental rugs, who needs those anyway?

And even though i am a depressive and bitter person through problems in my own life, i have to be so thankful and grateful for this freedom which is so normal and natural to me.
