  • Kiddie Kobler?

  • wow.. it was actually popular back then.. after that it went way down hill and now its finally back and running again

  • Thank you for posting this. I worked at Lil Juli's from 1993 until it was closed around 1997. It was my first job. I can see my old boss in the video. I live in the Toronto area now and when people ask me about my first job I say "I used to sell hot dogs and other snacks out of a carosel in the middle of the mall"...no one ever gets it but now I can show them this video. Thanks!

  • An interesting snapshot of what your typical mall was like in the early 90s (in Ontario, Canada anyway). Thanks for posting.

  • This is such a great lookback in time. Thanks!

  • tears in my eyes

  • Woolco!! There were Woolcos in my area when I was young, but they're all closed and I think they've become Zellers.

  • @HellYeahhhhhh The Wolco stores have long since become Walmart stores, back in 1994.

  • @hans1019 Oh! Thanks for that info! It's true that Wal-Marts first opened in 1994 in my area.

By the way, in my area, a Wal-Mart has replaced an Eaton's, as Eaton had bankruptcy, as far as I know.

Anyway, Wal-Marts are always full of people. They sell a bit cheaper than Zellers or Sears, for example.

  • Wow. That mall is closed down now, and for about 5 years before it was closed down, it had only like 2 stores left. Bulk barn and the carpet store.

  • I remember this mall in the 70's shopping with my Mom. We ate at Bell City Restaurant all the time.

  • @Whoozinga

Used to go for fries and gravy at Bell city as a kid!

  • @kevo1296 Oh yes! Do you remember the multi-coloured light bulbs? I always thought it was so dark in there.

  • @Whoozinga

Or the stained glass windows that led to the back to the washroom. I always remembered the same waitress was there all the time.

  • I remember when they built that mall. We lived in Fairview suburb, close by. It seemed like it was almost out in the country where they built it - outside the city limits. I used to work at Woolco, on the checkout, evenings and weekends when I was in high school. We had to punch in all the prices, the number code of the item, by hand, and then give the change, calculating it in our head. No scans back then!

  • Wow - really interesting! I left Brantford in 1973, and have been back 10 or 11 times in 37 years. So, I see things as a sort of "slice of time", with many changes every visit. This is the same feel I get from your video.

  • haha this whole plaza has changed so much.

  • Oh man I used to spend hours in Fun Town. Butts and Bows, Muntz. I almost cried watching this. Thanks so much.

  • @FindmeaNinja Well it's nice to know that you really enjoyed the video. Thanks for the wonderful comment.

  • holy crap that is like 5 years before i was born it changed but then it got tore down oh well there is still the lyden park mall

  • This was along time ago, they tore it down, and put up a new walmart, movie theater and a bunch of other stores.

  • i live in a town near here

  • wow!!! it looks so diffrent! is that the lyndon park mall??????

  • Actually this Is the Brantford Mall, or Brant Mall as it's also been reffered to, back when it was still in it's Hay day.

  • @O1fredfan no you fuck face, its the brantford mall

  • THIS WAS A LONG TIME A GO COOL

  • holy shit man this is retro brantford i love this town

  • Wow-amazing footage, thanks so much. I lived in Brantwood Park in the 70's/early 80's and this mall was were I spent my weekends-as well as my allowance! I attended countless movies at the Cinemas Three-and in later years, my Mom worked at Fun Town.

Thanks so much once again for posting.

  • Holy Memories-thank you!

  • wow basically everything's changed except the way people in Brantford dress!

  • wow this is crazy. So much has changed!!!

  • Comment removed

  • YO I ALWAYS THOUGHT I IMAGINED THAT CIRCULAR POGO STAND! AHHHHHHHH that was actually there! MY CHILDHOOD MEMORIES ARE TRUE, IT WAS NOT A DREAM

  • julies got those chewey pretzels $5 get outta here

  • Wow thanks for posting. I'm dating myself but I worked at Family Fair for a short while. It later became Bi-Way. Later I worked at the Fotomat booth. Heck I even remember in my really young days when it wasn't even covered in! Thanks again for posting. Certainly brings back lots of memories.

  • thanks for posting this, nice to see how it used to look compared to now

  • haha this was done like 2 weeks before I was born. things have changed so much.

  • thanks for sharin this, brings back memorys for when this mall was at its bloom

  • at 2:52, \why didnt you post BUTTS and BOWS? your video you made was excellent, if you included Butts and Bows you would have had a classic, but you fucked it up

  • i rermember that clould you unpload the bell city restont that was there please

  • I personally don't have any vids of Bell City Restaurant but maybe someone else might.

  • wow . i worked as a stock boy at that bi-way in 1989 to 1990 or 91... memories.

  • great video hans. do u have any other brantford videos. I work at zehrs the only store left. I was wondering if you or anyone else knows, if the Bi-Way became part of Zehrs. Judging by the video it looks like Bi-Way is at the dame end of Zehrs. Also was the movie theatre there taken at this point. Seeing that radio shack became bulk barn, and the theatre used to be across form bulk barn, do u remember the theatre being acorss from radio shack

  • Ah yes I remember the Buy-Way, Buts & bows and of course Radio Shack and Muntz as well. Yes, the theaters were across from there and Buy-Way was where it always was, near Zehr's. I also remember the whole back section, with the hall way with the white tiles and the little small store fronts, like the electronics repair depot and the travel agency and you had to go right to go to where the arcade and liquor store was and the little hall that lead to the washrooms

  • hate to mention, that you forgot two of my favourite store in the old mall...zoez and the magazine stand by the bi-way...and the right house too

  • Umm, OK well I can't remember if Zoes computer was still there at that time. I do remember the magazine stand, which was titled Butts and Bows but didn't get it. You can sort of see the Buy Way through the Christmas light display. I would have if I thought about it. AT the time you don't think aboutgetting all the details because you don't think the mall will go away.

  • I am on the board of the brant museum and we will love to have the copy of this for our collection.can you make the cd and give it to us.?

  • This Mall Was Torn Down Sept 1 2008 there re doing it now!

  • The Livery/Grand River Clothing is the only thing not shown! I remember the mall this way well from the time that I worked at GRC.

  • Interesting how The Brantford mall is right on the edge of the city.

  • Glad this is here! I had forgotten what that mall used to look like. I had moved to Mississauga in 1991, then to Saskatchewan in 1993 and came back to Brantford late 1996.

  • wow!...i'm so glad you caught this footage,..brings me back so many memories of my childhood...though even when i was young this mall was in its dying process...even in the 80's..many hours spent at funtown...thanks for this...loved this vid

  • diifferent

  • nice!!!

  • now there is like nothing in the brantford mall , just the zehrs and movie theater , there taring it down !

  • fantastic!

  • thanks for posting this, that is how I remember it as a kid I would have been 5 then. I remember going to woolco I also remember there being a electronics repair place there too.

  • I am temporarily four blocks away from it at the moment. I can't believe how much money has changed hands over that little northernmost section of Brantford.

I miss the mall already when I would check out a movie. It is so dead and empty in there.

This video is in my favourites now.

  • Unbelievable that this footage exists anywhere. This is exactly how I remember Brantford from the first time I moved away. Thanks, man. Glad you put this up.

  • Hi, glad you liked the video. The mall has really changed now. In 1995/96, it underwent renovations and is now being redisigned. It's good to remember the good old days..
