  • thx for the perfect instructions! It really helped me (as a greenhorn) to repair my bike:)! much appreciated! servas;)

  • If you wan't a bottom bracket that you can really service buy a chris king one. You can inject new greese into it with a injection tool that they make and all you do is pop a plastic seal like the outer one he took off then just plug the tool into the bearing until it clicks in and pump greese into it until you see all the old greese and fresh greese coming out of the seals. Then just unplug the tool wipe off the excess greese and put the plastic cover back on and your done.

  • A little tip for those who dont have access to the removal tool.

Leave the cup with the offending bearing screwed into the frame but remove the seal. Then simply tap out using a 21mm socket ....jobs a gudden!

(note: Only use this method if the bearing is to be replaced with a new one)

  • A cup removal tip tip for those dyslexics out there who suffer with left & right (like myself)

Both sides are undone in the direction from the back wheel to the front. In my head I say ...back to front / over the moon. ;-)

  • @tosher777 Dyslexics don't have trouble with left and right, they have trouble with spelling and reading :P

  • @surferstapleton

This kind of narrow mindedness & ignorance led to poor teaching practises throughout history which led to hundreds of thousands of children missing out on a proper education ...often being labelled as 'thick' by those ignorant & incapable teachers. Dyslexia arises in many forms my freind. Problems with numbers, problems with balance, left & right, etc etc....not just reading & writing ;-P

  • @tosher777 The days of teachers labelling children as 'thick' for being dyslexic are long gone - if that ever happened at all?

  • Best bike tech on YT. Those BB bearing tools are contradictory to how bearings should be removed - as in - never press out a bearing using the inner race as the contact. These tools always neccesitate the contacting of the inner race with the tool which leads to damage to the bearing. Also these bearing removal tools are absolutely extortionate - retailing at anything from £50 - £150 depending on the type of outboard BB. I've custom engineered my own version which retails for only £15.

  • You look like david cameron!

  • I have a HOPE ceramic BB on my road bike. I figured I was buying more or less maintenance free riding with the ceramic but after 10 months one side went totally bad. I should point out that this is on my NICE bike that I do not ride in the rain or dirt, intentionally, naturally one gets caught out from time to time. My LBS mech told me they need to be lubed once in a while, especially the ceramics! There was no service info that came with the BB when I bought it.

  • what cranks could you use with this bottom bracket

  • what rear wheel are you using for this bike

  • Hope , By Dower yorkshiremen...

  • He'd be no good at baking cakes.

  • lol i laughed at that bit too ;p

  • lol i laughed at that bit too ;p

  • Great video and explanation!

I really really appreciate those that take the time to share the small details.

    10 out of 10!

  • This video is the reason I went with a chris king bottom bracket for my xtr cranks. All you need is a injection tool so you can purge all the old greese out and refill the bearings with new greese in a few minutes with a greese gun. The 180 dollars for tool and bottom bracket are worth it because the bottom bracket will last forever if you regreese the bearings at least once a year. Shimano bottom brackets are not serviceable so when you get water in the bearings you have to buy a new cup.

  • The man is a teaching guru...

  • how come all general bike grease is colored?

  • EXCELLENT job!!! Very easy to follow. Got to remember to "nip it up"!!!

  • Very helpful and thorough. I agree, the best maintenance video set I've seen. Thanks man.

  • Super Helpful! Thanks Guys, helped me service my bottom bracket that was creaking a lot. Thanks for being so detailed, made it easy for me!

  • Godd video, helped me a lot putting on my new SLX crank :)

  • Thanks, I needed to see this done to be sure I was doing it right, Keep nippin'

  • @eighteenbikes Great video Nick! TY. Can you please tell me where I can purchase the bearing tool, for removing and installing the bearing cartridge from the cup???

    Thanks

  • "Nip it up, back it off, nip it up again." Excellent video.
